Guess Who‘s Fighting Obama’s Job-Killing EPA Rules: Unions!

New EPA rules that threaten to cause electricity rates to “necessarily skyrocket” are also going to kill jobs all across the country. And the prospect of this attack on the economy is making both unions and small-government types stand up and protest.

A Texas company is suing to block new EPA “cross-state air pollution” rules. If the regulations are not changed, Luminant Energy claims it will be forced to close two plants and fire 500 people. Texas was not initially included in the new EPA rules that target sulphur-dioxin emissions with a mandate requiring a 64% reduction from 2010 levels, but in July the Lone Star state was added to the list.

The News-Journal of Longview, TX reports the new regulations will have a considerable effect on the region’s economy:

“This would be devastating to the Northeast Texas economy — not just Titus County,” Titus County Chamber of Commerce Director Faustine Curry said of the losses from the regional employer and taxpayer. “In Titus County, we have the power plant, the mines.”

Union workers in Missouri recognize that the EPA’s aggressive push will cost consumers more money while threatening to destroy jobs.

New EPA Rules Kill Jobs In Texas

Energy for Missouri Jobs is pushing for what they call a “balanced” approach from the EPA. Yahoo’s Business Wire reports with a quote from the former head of the St. Louis AFL-CIO:

“Missouri working families cannot afford regulations that will raise electricity costs and destroy jobs during this fragile economic recovery,” said Robert Kelley, President Emeritus of the St. Louis Labor Council and member of Energy for Missouri Jobs. “The EPA needs to consider a balanced approach that gives us cleaner air without sacrificing jobs and increasing energy prices.”

How important is coal to Missouri’s energy?

New EPA Rules Kill Jobs In Texas

The Chamber of Commerce has been screaming about the EPAs jobs-strangling regulation for months. Bill Kovacs, Senior VP of science, technology and regulatory affairs testified before a Congressional Committee last summer:

The cumulative impact of regulatory action can be overwhelming:  agencies literally have the power to decide the fate of firms and entire industries.  American Electric Power Co. made headlines last month when it disclosed that EPA’s “train wreck” of coal industry regulations—Coal Ash, Utility MACT, the Transport Rule and Cooling Water Intake structures—would force the utility to retire 6,000 megawatts of coal-fired generating capacity and spend another $6 billion to $8 billion reworking the rest of its fleet.  AEP would close three power plants in West Virginia, one in Ohio and one in Virginia, and would retire several boilers at coal plants in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Texas and Virginia.

Unions are against the new EPA rules. Governors and utility companies are fighting it in the courts. And citizens will be hurt by massive, nationwide job losses as well as increased electricity costs.

We can’t say that President (then candidate) Obama didn’t warn us:

Not really – unions in general are very short-sighted. The rank and file willingly voted for Obama, but now they are upset at the consequences of their actions. This is exactly what happened in Indianapolis last summer – a manufacturing firm was going to take over operations of a failing GM plant, with the provision that beginning employees would have a starting wage of 17.00 an hour (unskilled labor I should add.) The union pitched a fit, stating that even if the plant closed down they could be transferred to another plant. The deal fell through, the plant closed, and the newly-transferred union employees were given pink slips because they were redundant at the places they wanted to transfer to. One less manufacturing plant in Indiana, many fewer employed union members (who are still obligated to pay dues out of their unemployment, BTW). Union members are the ultimate in mind-numbed robots – they only do what their “leadership” tells them to, even when it leads to their undoing.

What you fail to understand is a job is not a right, nor is a company supposed to be sacred and never close should they fail.

In your example – a worker owned company means they will expect lifetime jobs that will never go away even if several competitors produce a better product. They will expect raises every year despite economic activity. They will demand larger pensions even with a shrinking market share and limited growth outlook. They will donate money to politicians so legislation can be passed that will penalize their competitors. Then when the low IQ workers have run the company in to the ground they will donate even larger sums of money to the political class in order to receive taxpayer funded bailouts. Gee that sounds like modern day unions!

There is no such thing as job security in an ever changing business climate. This is why the union mentality has failed the USA. They want to obtain a job and never think about updating their skills, or working harder to stay afloat. It is an attitude of entitlement which uses thug tactics to compensate for the individual failures of the workers.

Workers do not start the companies, they try to take them over with unions. Workers do not act responsibly with their own finances hence why they are not the founders or the providers of seed capital. Workers are the equivalent of the mailroom employees except they never try to leave and instead use thug tactics to extract a living beyond their me

If one wishes to build a production facility and Environmental Impact Statement is required. Approval of an Environmental Impact Statement is both expensive and time-consuming. It is anybody’s guess how many new enterprises have been snuffed out by this requirement. Yet the bureaucracy can institute new rules and regulations that increase the cost of production and rewarded politician’s cronies with almost no restraint. The bureaucracy has the power to destroy existing industries and eliminate innovation.

All Bureaucratic rules and regulations should be suspended until an Economic Impact Statement on the rule is approved by the Congress. Of course, no new rules should be allowed without the economic impact statement and the approval of the Congress.

So the unions appear to be siding with the people who have jobs against Mr Obama’s EPA job-killing rules and regulations?

    Okay quick look:

Union — jobs go away, they have no more union jobs and businesses they can squeeze for money to use for political agendas.

Union — hedging bet that they now see Mr Obama and the Progressives and Democrats agendas heading down in flames, want to be in postion to exploit winner success of 2012 elections.

Union — led by socialist progressives who seek their own continuing survival; for the political CYA moment, they can, if they survive past 2012, point to the stance they took now, and say “SEE, we did support the fight for business against the massive fed’s regulations…”

Union — If Obama or another progressive (like Hillary or Gore) come into the White House, they then can execute Political CYA move #2 “WE distracted them away from your re-election, did you a nice big favor…”

Sounds crazy? Think on it from their own perspective, economically and politically.

When did it happen? When it became politically expedient for them to protect their own tails, they see the handwriting on the walls “Obama ends in 2012.”

In this case they can set up a dual solution to their problem:

      A. IF Obama or another progressive wins… “We distracted them…now you owe us…”

      B. IF Obama loses… “SEE we did what is right in supporting jobs (so we can have more money to intimidate businesses, politcal agenda pushing, etc.)”

What we are seeing here is the beginning of the end for the mass of diverse socialist, radical and extremist groups.

Each one is now setting to be the first to dispose of one or more of the others, as they constantly fail to realize that those who start a Revolution, seldome are the ones to take power at the end of the Revolution.

And your trying to tie Unions,The EPA, and Obama to a charity how?

I would say your example of misused funds with the charity is more closely linked to the William J. Clinton Foundation. Here is an example of Liberals hiding money, “The Clinton’s charitable contributions went to their own foundation, which has yet to give away much of the money”.

The tax-exempt Clinton Foundation had donated $250,000 to ACORN.

The tax-exempt Clinton Foundation provided $275,000 in grants for ACORNS “Katrina Benefits Access project” and ACORN’S “Operation Hope Project; Restore Hope.”

The tax-exempt Clinton Foundation also helped secure private sector commitments for ACORN.

The IRS has pinpointed tax-exempt “foundations and charities” as the locus classicus for tax evasion and money laundering. The BIGGEST tax-exempt fraud — a tax-exempt foundation writing checks to a tax-exempt charity (the way crooks look “altruistic” as they siphon off tax-free money for personal uses).

Believe it or not, there are a lot of union members, primarily Teamsters and AFL-CIO skilled tradesmen and some SEIU, who want responsible spending, limited government and like the Tea Party.

You really don’t see many liberal hard hats or truckers. They’re great people. Many are vets who truly know about paying dues. They take their union and their nation seriously. They don’t like someone giving their hard earned cash to politicians who are part of the problem rather than the solution.

We all know the majority of citizens are conservatives. We also know that if more conservatives voted, we could easily fix the problems caused by uninformed, misinformed, illegal or deceased democratic voters.

Just like conservatives in general, union members know they could easily replace the progressive socialist democrat liberals that have infested their leadership, by making better informed choices when nominating and electing union leaders. Let’s hope they do!

An informed voter is a liberal’s worst nightmare. Whether they’re skimming union dues to give to democrats or democrat politicians out to remake America into a socialist utopia, it’s all about them being in control. That is, if they can collect and redistribute (steal) enough of other people’s money to buy it.

Had enough yet? Fire the traitors! Go Tea Party Teamsters!
