Obama’s Muslim Grandmother Prays for His Conversion During Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca

Grandparents often pray for the spiritual well being of their grandchildren.  So, in many regards, it‘s not surprising that Barack Obama’s grandmother Sarah Omar would also pray for him.  And she’s talking about her latest prayer.  One that made during a hajj pilgrimage to Mecca:

“I prayed for my grandson Barack to convert to Islam,” said Haja Sarah Omar, 88, in an interview with Al-Watan daily held in Jeddah after she had performed Haj.

The paper said that Haja Omar was in Saudi Arabia on pilgrimage along with her son, Obama’s uncle Saeed Hussein Obama, and four of her grandchildren as guests of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

Muslim proselytizing is apparently nothing new to Omar:

Faisal Ambuya, one of Obama’ cousins, who embraced Islam at the hands of the Haja said, “My grandmother is very much interested in calling non-Muslims to Islam and I learned about Islam from her.”

“When I will return to my village I will tell the villagers about the strength of Islam,” she said.

The Daily Mail notes the timing of Omar’s public comments:

Ever since he launched his White House campaign, the U.S. President has been dogged by speculation over his religion.

Mr Obama, whose middle name is Hussein, has always maintained he is a ‘committed Christian’.

But many in the U.S. still believe otherwise. The revelation that his 88-year-old Kenyan grandmother Sarah Omar prayed for him to switch faiths follows a poll which found one in five believes he is a Muslim.

Omar said she would not comment about President Obama’s politics.  She preferred to stick to “Hajj matters.”  However:

When asked about her expectations about Obama winning a second term to the White House, Haja chuckled with a side glance at her son Saeed Obama and grandchildren, “Allah alone knows, it is a matter of the unknown future.”

    When the Leader of the Nation of Islam prophesied about Obama “the Messiah is absolutely speaking”. when Obama in an interview with Brian Williams said that when he took the oath of office as Senator and he swore on a Koran… When our Prez unlike any other American calls the Koran “the HOLY Koran”…. When he had a slip of the tongue and told George Stephanopoulos “my muslim faith” then retracted after George said “you mean YOUR christian faith’… When he denies the National Day of Prayer, yet holds a gathering with muslims at the White House for Eid-Ul-Fitr… When the muslims have a prophecy in the Hadith about the sun rising in the West and his logo of a rising sunis is emblematic to the world… When as a candidate, he refused to use his middle name, but as soon as he is sworn in, he made sure the muslim world, especially Turkey, knew who it was Hussein… I have no doubt about who he is!

      As an agnostic I don’t particularly care but Obama was sworn in on a bible.
      Pres Bush often when addressing Muslims referred to the ‘ holy quran’

    Now to the story, I don’t know of any committed Christian that would leave God out of the pledge of allegiance or the Constitution. If he says he is a committed Christian then I guess we will see when he is front of the Almighty God explaining why he did.

      I am an agnostic and I get a chuckle out of these rants.
      You do know that the word god was added this past century to money/pledges etc right? It was in a response to communism.
      And Christians are terrorist when needed. Ask anyone in N Ireland. And as to the history of Christians killing unbelievers, where to start, Europe, crusades, the natives in America?
      I see the acts of Man in both branches of the abrahamic religions. It’s human nature using religion as a guise. So be informed and not led.

      I am a Christian, but you have it right. There is no religion with clean hands, because there is no human with clean hands. We have ALL sinned and come short of the glory of God. Christians have done some mighty evil things in the past and are sure to do more in the future. Anyone that kills in the name of God should question their faith because God does not need any of us to do HIS work! We are simply to spread the gospel, He does the work!

      But I do have to ask you, just what is an agnostic? An agnostic is just a confused atheist! There either is a God or there is not, it is life’s most basic question and the reason why we are placed here. That is the choice we have to make. There is only one God; Jehovah God. Any other god is simply a product of totally depraved man trying to find Jehovah God. Man has a way of corrupting anything we touch, and religion is no exception. Find Christ and you will have all your answers, there are no doubts, only truth. Find Him before it is too late. You only get this one chance.

    MrButcher: I don’t know what planet you live on. But Christians and Jews don’t go around converting anyone by threatening to cut their heads off. They don’t go around with bombs strapped to their butts killing innocent people. You really need to get your facts straight before you mouth off. Seems to me that you would be a whole lot happier in an Muslim country than here by the way you are talking. Christians have no World Domination in mind. Yes, we would like to see everyone saved from burning in eternal damnation. But we won’t force you to accept it.
    Besides you sound a lot like a progressive Muslim to me. So exactly why are you here? Seems to me that you would be a lot more welcome at CNN, or Comedy Central.

    @ mrbutcher: um the jews don’t want to convert everybody…they just want their state and to be left alone. matter of fact they will try to persuade you not to convert if you want to because of the obligations jews have in the torah and talmud.
    Christians were commanded to preach and to baptize, not conquer by the sword. Only in Islam is the Jihad of violence mentioned.only Islam commands that all other faiths be subdued.

    Ok, I will focus on my observations: Obama SAYS he is a Christian, has sat in a church for 20 years listening to hateful “black liberation theology” teachings, claimed he didn’t hear them, has rarely gone to church after being sworn in. Declines to hold the public ceremony for the Christian National Day of prayer for two years, but holds the Ramadan dinner in the White House State Dinner room in in those same two years. For someone who says he is a Christian and not a Muslim, he seems more comfortable with being with those of Islamic faith than he does with Christians. Is it a matter of comfort ot hate? Only God can see into the man’s heart, we can only see his actions and they speak louder than words.
    What I see is a pathological liar and an narcissistic, arrogance. I see a man who seems to hate the “little people” “who cling to ”their religion” and guns.”
    If you are a Christian, you are proud to say that we are “endowed by our Creator” when quoting the Declaration of Independence. I see a man that is not committed to being a Christian as his predecessor was, and just fakes his way through religion the same as he is doing with the office of the Presidency. Smoke and mirrors.

      I think it is the Muslims who are too hyper-sensitive to criticism of their faith. Christians don’t threaten to kill anyone who makes fun of their Savior, or even draw a cartoon off Mohammed.

      Christians did not fly jets into two sky-scrapers and kill thousands of people in the name of their faith. Christians do not go into crowded market places and blow up innocent people, nor send mentally challenged women and children to do it for them.

      I will not let go my suspicions and mis-trust of Muslims. In the Qoran, they are encouraged to pretend to be your friend and lie to you if it advances their religion.
      Our numbers have been here since the founding of this country, yet they haven’t been a threat like what the Muslims pose. Islam claims to be a religion of peace, but their actions and the words in the Qoran tell quite a different story. Which Muslim nation sends money to other nations to help out in times of disasters? Which Muslim nation is as charitable as the US? Which Muslim nation protects the freedoms of other countries? I am not a Muslim hater, in fact I had a friend in college who was from Iraq. He did not follow the teachings of the Qoran and seemed a decent fellow.
      As I said, actions speak louder than words. The actions of the Christians and the actions of the Muslims. Who has been more peaceful and has done more good in the world?

      Would it matter? As President, yes, it would matter a great deal.

      Does Obama believe in God? Yes, I think he does. I do not believe he is an atheist.

      Is he a Muslim? No. If he were a true Muslim he would HAVE to show his faith. Like it or not, if there is one thing I can respect about Muslims it is their devotion to their religion. Unlike Christians, Islam is a way of life for these people, they do practice what they preach.

      Is he Christian? No, he is not. Or…I should probably be more precise here; he is not a BORN AGAIN Christian. He may be a CINO (Christian in name only). This is blatantly obvious by MANY things that he has said. We are known by our fruits, and he has nothing to show.

      So why does it matter? For the same reason he has to pay lip service to Christianity. The majority of the American are simply not ready to accept a non-Christian President. Really, it is that obvious and that simple.

      I pray that he will publicly convert to Islam! Though he has no interest in doing so…It would totally destroy his chances of re-election. He would not get 20% of the vote, I would be highly surprised if it were even close to that figure.

When Islam preaches that all non believers are to be put to death if they will not convert to Islam – I have to ask whether Islam is at war with me. When Islam preaches that when among infidels Muslims must lay low until they have the strength to put the question to the non believers and to execute all those who do not convert to Islam; I have to ask, Is Islam at war with me? I am a Christian so I have no choice but to understand that I am a target of the Muslimeen. It would make no difference to this matter were I Hindu, Buddhist, Jew, Jain, Animist or Athiest – we are all considered the infidels by the Muslimeen. We, the non Muslims in the world, need to think more clearly and to see the teachings of Islam for what they are. I do not advocate the extermination of Muslims but perhaps we need to educate the world as to expose their stated intentions to sunlight and to insulate ourselves from them – do not allow them within the “city’s walls”.

      Does it really matter at this point . . . Christian . . .Muslim? The man’s actions speak the universal language of destruction.

      Obama liberals have claimed to be faithful to the US Constitution yet they have only used the US political system, the Constitution to destroy her. It makes no difference what religion these people claim to be living and working under . . . they believe predominately in only themselves.

      It’s safer to say that Obama’s religion is Obama . . . liberalism.

      Just as Wallis noted, the far-right media continues to create doubts about Obama’s religion, prompting about 18% of the country to doubt his Christianity. Wallis is right and the right is wrong. This is clearly a smear campaign with Fox and Beck in a leadership position. You can name-call all you want but it doesn’t change the facts and the continued evidence of such a campaign, such as the continued coverage of this story. Funny, Fox didn‘t spend this much time investigating Palin’s censorship and threats to ban books, or Bush’s days at HBS doing coke. But they continue to run stories about Obama’s Muslim connections at a significant rate. Love the story selection at the “fair and balanced” news outlet, and other similar media on television and radio. Propaganda. Machine. For. Unthinking. Idiots.
