A group of Occupy protesters on its way from San Diego to Washington, D.C. is furious after it claims it was kicked off a Greyhound bus in Amarillo, TX.

“I was discriminated against because I was with Occupy San Diego,” protester Vivian McCardle told KFDA-TV. “It’s appalling that people would treat others like that. When I walked up to that door he said you’re one of them. You people. You’re one of them going to Washington. Umm… One of them?”


 

The group detailed the incident on the site Obrag.com. According to that account, the bus driver became agitated with the group during a rest stop and repeatedly told members to “Shut up and sit down.” When they continued to respond to the driver, he eventually exited the bus and made a phone call. That’s when several police officers showed up and the driver pointed out the occupiers and had them removed:

After a brief conversation with the driver the officers walked onto the bus and asked him to point out who he wanted removed. The driver began to walk around and ask different passengers whether they were with Occupy. The police stopped the driver and told him that instead of asking people if they are with Occupy, he should instead point out who specifically he wanted off the bus. The driver replied, “all fourteen of them, I want them all of the bus.”

The driver failed to realize that there were only thirteen people with the Occupy group on the bus and that he was mixing in to the group another passenger that voiced her concerns about the unfair treatment she witnessed.

No one was kicked off just yet, and two of the officers left the bus to speak with the driver once again, while one remained on board to speak with the protesters. The officer who remained inside, told everyone that they would be able to stay on the bus as long as they don’t communicate with the driver at all. Everyone agreed and were looking forward to getting back on the road. The officer even explained to the protesters that they have to deal with this driver, his disrespectful attitude, and attempts to get people arrested without cause all the time.

While one of the officers was talking with the passengers on the bus, the driver was seen waving his hands in disgust and his head in disapproval at the two officers speaking with him outside. A few minutes later, the driver and both officers returned and explained to everyone that anyone with Occupy would have to leave the bus.

Without argument and still in shock, all thirteen protesters even those not pointed out by the driver, quietly stood up and walked off the buss together. By the time the group was booted from the bus, it was already after 8pm and over an hour since the bus was originally supposed to depart Amarillo.

Greyhound had not commented as of Monday morning, but did Tweet a message on Sunday recognizing the incident:

    0.o hmm… what were the occupyers doing exactly?
    if they were chanting, standing up in the seats, standing in the isle while the bus was in motion, or anything that could be determined as a safety issue or disturb other passengers, the driver has the right to kick them off the bus. if this driver has had a problem with member of this group before, then im sorry but Os need to realize they are not above the rules and quit trampling everyone else to spread their idiot mis-informed message.
    and dont most public buses have cameras by now?

      SO the driver got his way afterall.

      This is scary stuff people but I don’t have to tell you that. Some will say “Hooray a win for our side”. What about when the next time GB has a event somewhere, and all THOSE people get on a bus with their flags and patriotic pins which will clearly ID them as good and wholesome people only wanting the best for this country and all concerned, but if your driver is from the Left and is a Dear Leader supporter, he or she will most likely feign racism and try to have them removed from the bus. I would not be so quick to jump on this as some kind of victory. If these 13 folks were acting unrully and beligerent towards the drivers and or the passengers then yes by all means have them kicked off. But if this driver believes he is doing the rest of us a favor by acting this way he is not, he is just confirming to these zealots that what they have been taught about intolerance in America is true. They will never forget this.

      @ CHIEFGEORGE Sorry, your argument doesn’t wash here. Glenn Beck fans and Tea Party members are, for the most part, RESPECTFUL of others, and would be hard pressed to do anything to warrant being thrown off a bus. The Occupy movement folks, on the other hand, have repeatedly shown they are little more than unwashed animals, and I’m willing to bet they more than deserved their expulsion from the Greyhound.

      I’ve been to all the Glenn Beck events. Every single one of them are filled with the kindest, most decent and upstanding citizens this country has to offer. If the driver is a person from the left, and I mean hard-core left – seeing all the goodness around them literally makes them incapable of thinking straight. Sometimes, they actually feel sick – but never did they attribute it to the passengers. It was hilarious being on a city bus in DC, and the driver could not figure out where he was, and he was (according to him) driving those city streets for 15 years.

      I’ll bet the video would be all over the internet and nightly news if these bus riders were from the tea party.
      But I have never seen one because the tea party are generally polite and respectful and would respect Greyhounds property and the authority of the bus driver.
      Anybody can get momentarily caught up in the excitement of their movement.
      The difference is when the movement is RUDE, RADICAL, and EXTREME like OWS, they have no boundries and quickly turn into a MOB. (like anytime or place when union members are involved)

      Well, I have to say that if what was recounted is all that happened, then the bus driver was wrong. Now I am sure there is more to the story than what has been given us since the side of the driver has not been recounted. Now if I’m right (and I always am) the passengers probably paid for the trip before embarking on it. If that is the case then no matter if the bus company is private or not they deserve just compenation for what they paid. Now that can mean getting to DC on another bus or recieveing free vouchers but they deserve to get what they paid for.

      Finally, SOMEONE has some sense. This nonsense needs to stop! They must adhere to laws! The “occupy” people need to pay the fees out of their pocket, like any other protester would. The tax payers that don‘t agree with them shouldn’t have to pay for their accommodations. And politicians and those in authority need to stop bending over backwards for this group.       Seems that a critical piece of information is missing: were they disruptive? Tons of speculation in here, not a single piece of evidence.       @ CHIEFGEORGE – There weren’t any problems on bus from Tea Party people going to event during the mid terms, and there weren’t any with Beck fans going to D.C. for his rally there. Since the Tea Party and Beck events drew much larger crowds then any OWS events I would assume that more buses were used and some of those bus drivers were from the left, but still no incidents. Could it be that Tea Party and Beck fans conduct themselves in a much more respectful manner?

    The driver of a bus is like the captain of a ship, and I have seen them have members of the military removed for not doing as directed.
    These people should take heed , the occupiers, as they are way up in the friendly part of the Republic.
    Don’t come down to the parts where there is no interstate, you will not be asked to leave, you will be escorted away.

      I seriously doubt an officer told the folks that they have to deal with THIS particular bus driver all the time. HIGHLY doubtful

      If you leave a rant at least back it up with something factual to reference.
      For example; if you run down the list of states that are carrying a huge debt load, mostly due to public pensions by the way….you know, the Obama supporters. The top four or five are blue states with Kalifornia leading the way. You can very easily reference this information for yourself…..and you should.
      As far as you reference to the Tea Party…… where does one start?
      IF you have something to say…..great, but take a deep breath first and gather your thoughts.

      I agree, Talik. I suspect that there‘s a whole lot more to this story that we’re not being told. With all the phones with video capabilities now, there will probably be video emerge that supports one side or the other. Probably both a little guilty. The occupy people’s sole purpose is to create a scene. The driver may have exercised more authority than was prudent.

      Regarding Mr. Cocktail. I think he is basing his claim on the statistic that more federal funds go to red states than to blue states per capita – but not welfare funds. It is primarily due to military bases and federally funded highways in red states. Which, of course, are a legitimate functions of the federal government and it benefits the blue states to send these funds to red states.

We actually help our neighbors here without waiting for the government to do what is our responsibility in the first place. California does produce a lot of food, but half?     Forgive me, but isn’t a loud rowdy group on a bus a hazard for all passengers because they are distracting the driver. I think that causing the driver to be upset in this way was even a danger to his ability to concentrate on the road. People! driving is a serious business! I would have kicked them off, too.

    they were mad because the driver had a job (Ha,Ha, Ha). If they were creating a disturbance and distracting the driver, they were creating a dangerous situation for the drive and the other passengers and should have been removed. Oh, they promised to keep quiet but that was only to mollify the police on scene at that time. Had they been allowed to remain on the bus, they would have escalated their inane rhetoric and made the situation worse. By the time they got where they were going, they would have urinated of the floor and defacated on the seats and painted graffiti inside the bus. These low lifes need to buy good shoes and walk where ever they go.

    The way the bus driver reacted to these OWS people that’s the way the country sees the group. They haven’t made the best impression. The best part is everyone connects them with NoBama. Good luck next November

    Please learn to spell. OFF is not spelled OF. BUS is not spelled BUSS. The spelling errors are beginning to be a distraction. This kind of sloppiness does not belong on The Blaze. Does the sloppiness go beyong spelling? I hope not. Do you have any kind of editor? If not, you should.

    If the occupy folks were being disruptive then the driver had the right…duty, in fact…to boot them.

    Learn your lesson and keep your fool mouths shut on the next bus.
