Occupy Activists’ Mic Check Prompts Physical Altercation at Univ. of New Mexico Pro Israel Event | Nonie DarwishThe efforts of pro-Palestinian “Occupy” protesters to stifle the free speech of pro-Israel speakers nationwide continued at the University of New Mexico on Thursday night when a small group tried to shout down a speech by author Nonie Darwish. This time, their pre-planned disruption led to a physical altercation.

Darwish, founder of Arabs for Israel and director of Former Muslims United, was speaking at an event titled, “Why the Arab Spring is Failing” organized by the University of New Mexico Israel Alliance and the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

Activists from “(un)Occupy Albuquerque” – a group allied with the Occupy Wall Street movement – started a “people’s mic” seen frequently during the Occupy Wall Street protests.

As seen on a video posted to YouTube (below), the pro-Palestinian activists yelled: “Mic check! Nonie Darwish speaks for Israeli apartheid! And genocide at the hands of the IDF!”

Shortly after the “mic check” begins, the audience is heard shouting at those disrupting the speech, and chanting “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” Then, a scuffle begins. Though the camera angle is tight – which complicates providing an objective description — it appears an older audience member tried to grab the paper (presumably the script of anti-Israel slogans) out of one of the Occupy protester’s hands, which lead to pushing and shoving.

This as other audience members further away shouted profanities, urging them to “Get out!”

It’s unclear from the tape if an older male audience member lunged at the protesters or tripped on a chair and fell forward on then. Watch the two videos here posted by the protesters:

The activists and their supporters claimed three of them were “were assaulted on UNM campus for simply trying to make their voices heard and it is a shock that a non-violent action was met with such aggression.”

If you were wondering what “(un)Occupy” is, it’s part of the “Occupy” movement, but protests the movement’s use of the word “occupy,” because, according to its website:

The word “occupy” in general is offensive to most Native Americans and indigenous people and people of color in general – again in general. Occupations have displaced us for generations by Europeans.

After the protesters left and she was able to resume her speech, Darwish told the audience, “They could have waited to prove me wrong but they can’t unfortunately and I feel sad for them because our children are being poisoned mentally.”

A few people from the audience went to escort them out of the hall, but they refused to leave in defiance. As I was watching from the stage where I had an elevated view, I saw an older gentlemen was trying to escort a female student as she refused to move and was reading her chants from a paper, as he tried to take the paper I saw her elbow move towards the older man and he pushed her away and no one fell or was hurt.

The occupiers did everything to intimidate my sponsors to dis-invite me, then protested outside the hall and when that did not work, they screamed and yelled to silence me in the middle of my lecture. Pro-Israel and critics of Islam and Sharia practically no longer exist on US college campuses who only allow anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and anti-American activities throughout the school year…

If the ‘occupiers’ were truly serious about challenging my opinion, they could have waited for the Q and A after my presentation and proved me wrong. Welcome to the West Bank and Gaza culture on our University campuses.

In the description accompanying a YouTube video, one of those who came to hear Darwish speak wrote:

The Nonie Darwish talk had a big turnout and most of the attendees were glad they were there, in spite of SJP and the Occupy people getting together to disrupt the talk and prevent the speaker from speaking in the name of free speech and tolerance. Several people in the audience went to chase them out of the lecture hall, in defense of their own free speech rights. The protesters took choice videos, lied about many things and plastered it all around so it would become news. Strange that these protesters were willing to serve as an object lesson and proof of what Nonie Darwish was telling the audience: Criticism of Islam is not tolerated, and following Sharia, others have no rights or freedoms.

Local news seemed to focus on the arguments made by the Occupy activists:

 

The pro-Palestinian (un)Occupy activists claimed their free speech was defended under the law, but the courts have issued contrary opinions on this kind of speech hijacking.

A California court last year found 10 Muslim students guilty of disrupting Israeli ambassador Michael Oren’s speech at the University of California, Irvine and also convicted them for conspiring to disrupt the speech. During the February 2010 event, they stood up, one by one, and shouted prepared statements such as “propagating murder is not an expression of free speech.” The AP reported then:

Prosecutor Dan Wagner told jurors the students acted as censors to block the free flow of ideas and infringed upon the rights of 700 people who had gone to the Irvine campus to hear Oren.

Wagner showed video footage of university officials pleading with students to behave, but they kept interrupting the lecture. Wagner also showed emails sent among members of UC Irvine’s Muslim Student Union planning the disruption and calculating who was willing to get arrested.

Defense attorneys countered there were no hard rules for the speech, and the students might have been discourteous but didn’t break the law.

While free speech is protected under the First Amendment, allowing others to exercise that speech unimpeded, without being shouted down, is perhaps no less important.

      Oh, I know you think you did your Job by getting them to accept Jesus in their Hearts. But you failed God, by not teaching God Words.

      God said – what you do to Israel – he will do to you. How did you miss that in your teachings? I know it doesn’t rate up there with the Good Samaritan in your eyes.
      Now I now know what God meant when he said – you confess to be a Christian – but I do not know you.

      America – a Christian Nation is under attack from the False Prophecies of our President and a false, out casted and demonic Muslim Religion.

      I think God every day, that I go to a church were our Pastor is not afraid to teach from the Bible. My guess is that the majority of our Congregation did not vote for Obama and we have 18,000 attending every Sunday.

      Why – because we have been taught that the Bible teaches us how to identify to difference between right and wrong, true and false, and light and darkness – you won’t find that teaching in the Good Samaritan story.

      Pastors, Congregant, Men and Women of God – this is your wakeup call. Get off the couch and take a stand for God, the Bible and America.

      I will not stand by and let the “Apple of Gods Eye” be treated like this from anyone including Satan. Our Pastor teaches us to put on the whole armor of God – not just the Armor that the EPA, PITA and OPEC allows us to put on.

      Maybe your history doesn’t go into enough depth, but 13th and 14th century pogroms in western Europe forced many Jews to go east (a movement encouraged by Casimir III of Poland who wanted Jews to move to his territory because of their strong work ethic and commercial skills). By the late 18th and early 19th century, Jews were a significant percentage of the Russian population.
      In the wake of pogroms encouraged by Alexander III, are you really surprised that Jews might have adopted a political stance in opposition to that of their oppressor?
      But you seem to find it more comfortable to only consider those bits of history that fit your specific narrative.

When you’re done with that, maybe you can tell us what percentage of Russian farmers and factory workers supported the revolution.

      And let’s clarify those 20-30 million deaths during Soviet times. Numbers vary, but under Lenin around 4 million died. Lenin was an atheist, and his parents were Russian Orthodox (not that either tidbit has much to do with anything other than to say that murder can be inspired by secular as well as religious reasons). Note: this number is just those attributable to Lenin’s regime.
      Stalin takes murder to a whole new level.
      20, 30 … I’ve seen estimates up to nearly 50 million. Like Lenin, Stalin was an atheist (that whole ‘religion is the opiate of the masses’ thing). He was from Georgia and had been raised and educated in the Russian Orthodox faith, but he was far from a friend to that or any other religion.
      So maybe you can clarify your statement about the deaths of Christians at the hands of Marxist Jews. Seems the deaths were caused by the hands of atheists who, if they had any religious connection at all, was with the Russian Orthodox Church. (And since you’re not so good at getting meanings, I don’t think Russian Orthodoxy had anything whatsoever to do with the genocide – these deaths were inspired by Marxist ideology and carried out by power-hungry evil men).

      I will be more than happy to elaborate for you two if only the editor will allow.. You know it’s rather difficult posting things on the Blaze which are contrary to their mission. So here it goes.. Listen closely now and take notes so I won’t have to keep repeating myself..

      Probably the best-known exposé of the Jewish role in the Bolshevik coup d’état was by Sir Winston Churchill, writing in the Illustrated Sunday Herald of 8 February 1920. Churchill wrote “With the notable exception of Lenin, the majority of leading figures are Jews. Moreover the principal inspiration and the driving power comes from Jewish leaders.”

      Communism was of course founded by Karl Marx whose grandfather was a rabbi by the name of Mordeccai. Marx was given his initial encouragement by a Communist-Zionist by the name of Moses Hess. As founder and editor of the Rheinische Zeitung, the main organ of leftist thought in Germany, he provided Karl Marx with his first important platform. Later, in Brussels, he collaborated with Marx on The German Ideology.

      When the Bolsheviks overthrew the short-lived democratic government in Moscow and St. Petersburg in October 1917, it was a virtual Jewish coup d’état. The most prominent Jewish Commissar was Trotsky, real name Bronstein.

      To all Pastors -take a look – these are your congregants yelling “Mic Check.”

      Oh, I know you think you did your Job by getting them to accept Jesus in their Hearts. But you failed God, by not teaching God Words.

      God said – what you do to Israel – he will do to you. How did you miss that in your teachings? I know it doesn’t rate up there with the Good Samaritan in your eyes.
      Now I now know what God meant when he said – you confess to be a Christian – but I do not know you.

      America – a Christian Nation is under attack from the False Prophecies of our President and a false, and an out cast and demonic Muslim Religion.

      I think God every day, that I go to a church were our Pastor is not afraid to teach from the Bible. My guess is that the majority of our Congregation did not vote for Obama and we have 18,000 attending every Sunday.

      Why – because we have been taught that the Bible teaches us how to identify to difference between right and wrong, true and false, and light and darkness – you won’t find that teaching in the Good Samaritan story.

      Pastors, Congregant, Men and Women of God – this is your wake-up call. Get off the couch and take a stand for God, the Bible and America.

      I will not stand by and let the “Apple of Gods Eye” be treated like this from anyone including Satan.

      The Bible teaches us to put on the whole armor of God – not just the Armor that the EPA, PITA and OPEC allows us to put on.

If your going to use names you can only condemn those you name specifically. Without statistics any sweeping claims against all Jews have absolutely zero basis in fact. Give me some time and I could find several Russian Christians who were Bolsheviks and tell you how many Jews they murdered. It wouldn’t prove anything.

      How’s this for a comparison. All leaders of Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. are Muslim Arabs born in the Middle East. Therefore every Muslim Arab in the Middle East is a terrorist. How many of the Hijackers on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia? How many attacks against Americans in the Middle East were carried out by Iranian proxies?       I give to my church – I done my duty according to the Bible. If the Pastor goes out and gambles with the Money we give as a Tithe – then he will be Judge by God. Now, if I stop giving because the Pastor gambles the money away – then God will judge both me and the Pastor.

      I teach US and European History and would love to know what your sources are. Is the book “The Soviet Tragedy” by Martin Malia one of them? Or “A History of the Soviet Union” by Peter Kenez? I could list quite a few more historical books, papers and theses. I am very familiar with a large number of works that focused entirely on the “Jewish component,” which means nothing because the men who were involved in the Bolshevik movement renounced their faith when they became Marxists. But, it seems, you believe you have this all figured out and are quite adept at expounding upon what you know, so please share your sources with all of us

      I think when Winston Churchill says that it was Jewish movement then it’s probably fair enough to conclude that it was indeed a Jewish movement.

    But Americans who are watching their country being destroyed are tired. Tired. The quiet Americans can only be pushed so far before even good people draw a line in the sand and say “NO MORE.”
    We are going to see more and more violence as the the OWS and it’s sub groups get pushier.

      2. I never said I supported what Assad is doing, I merely said that I’m equally opposed to both Hamas and Assad. Hamas was founded during the first intifada and was the primary terrorist group active during that time. During that outbreak, half of the Palestinians who died were killed by other Palestinians, having been accused of being traitors. Hamas uses human shields, attacks exclusively civilian targets, and persecutes its own people. Israel has to send humanitarian relief into Gaza on a daily basis because the conditions are so bad there (ethnic cleansing my @ss). And as for the Brotherhood, have even looked at Egypt recently? Rapes, beatings, riots and more are occurring with the police often being involved. Hamas, formed from the MB, in its charter recognizes the “truth” of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. That same charter declares that compromise and treaties are not acceptable methods and that only through Jihad may “Palestine” be “liberated”. And as you clearly can see from their logo, they define Palestine as including all of Israel minus the Golan Heights.

    This is a tough situation. How do you respond when the horrendous “occupies” disturb an indoor private event? They present a lose/lose situation. Let them continue they win; force them out they claim physical abuse. What choices do they leave you with? They WANT us to react with force. I’m not saying that forcibly removing them is a bad thing, I mean if I were there my gut would have led me to push and shove those guys outta there. But the problem is we lose when that happens. This may sound dumb and corny, but what if the entire audience had broken out into song (some kind of Hymn or whatever)? Everyone stands up, lovingly faces the occupiers and drown out their yelling with a song of God’s Love for us? That presents a lose situation for them. Love is the only thing I can think of to combat these guys and actually “win” in the end.

I’d love to take all these punks into a C130 and literally throw them out of the back of the plane with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a parachute into the middle-east and let them see first hand the reality of that hellhole, and see them try and fix it, better yet, survive! Especially the girls. Oh, how I‘d LOVE to see how long they’d last.

These things are only going to get worse, and the answer is NEVER violence. Let the police remove them, and until they get there, do your best to love them.

      That serves no purpose. The person speaking is still disrupted and not allowed to speak whether it be because of idiotic chants from protesters or from a chant or song from the actual audience. You’re just helping the idiots do what they came to do in the first place.

      I like the standing silent thing, singing a hymn together would also be effective in drowning them out, but if you use physical force you lose. Again, what will be this audience’s response at RESTORING LOVE? Will you shove, push, or throw a punch. Everything inside you will be telling you to do just that, but recognize where those feelings come from. RESTOTING LOVE will be ruined if that happens. Glenn should teach everyone a few Hymns everyone can sing when the protestors come to his event. If you use any physical means…you become the idiot because YOU played right into their hands. OPEN YOUR EYES and try your best to LOVE.

      I had a similar thought, Jdickiso, as I was watching the last video. I also thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have some trained martial arts people at these events (those truly trained and know how to control themselves, truly practice the art and are not mere showoffs) to help maintain calmer control. It’s amazing what they can do very simply and with warning, rarely much force if at all. Perhaps more of us just need to “surround” events like this, silently praying or whatnot.. putting a type of human shield at least between them and whatever group is meeting. WE CAN be unified–those of us who simply want peace here and who wish to preserve all of our freedoms–for everyone–not just selected groups.

      ohh, do I agree. O needs to have violence in the streets and so many are tired of the “occupiers” disruptions and delusionsal rantings. They are being supported and manipulated by the socialistic endeaors of SEIU, Unions, even being supported by liberal leftist professors. It is such a travesty, but it will come to what they want.. I don’t think they will like the result of their “freedom” chants. Don’t they know the govt has no money. For anyone to get money from the govt, it has to get it from someone.. This will escelate.     Look at the old Chinese photos before the communist revolution. It’s the same thing. Only then since there was no video they stood and pointed for the photos. They caused chaos during meetings for the papers but the “pose” of pointing was always done for the cameras.

    Trespassing has legal consequences. Start charging these Jones/Ayers/Piven radicals with criminal trespass if they have not obtained a permit and use up their funds on bail and legal defense fees. The more Occupyers are forced to spend in legal fees the less is left over to fund Obama’s campaign.

      I‘m no fan of hypocrisy but your tone clearly indicates that it’s not hypocrisy that concerns as much as it is Jews succeeding in defending their constitutional while others failed. Then of course there’s your hypocrisy. If it had been anyone other than a Jew you would be celebrating, but since it is you are being critical. If you were a true supporter of freedom you would celebrate the fact that even those you clearly hate have the same protection. Point out hypocrisy if you must, but your blatant Jew-hating overtones you should keep to yourself.

      Went to your link. In no part of it did Ron Paul defend Hamas. You are a troll and a liar. He calls for the US but butt out of Israel’s business per our Constitutional limits and our economic limitation.

      As I recall when Israel turned Gaza over to the PA it was a beautiful thriving place with gardens and greenhouses. When Dr. Paul says it looks like a Concentration Camp his is accurate is his assessment. However, this was the doing of the PA, not of Israel. Pretty typical of those places radical Islam occupies overall. So once again, Dr. Paul is indeed accurate in his depection and you are shown again for a troll and a liar.

      I stand with Israel and her best chance is with Ron Paul as POTUS. Our foreign policy under Clinton/Bush & Obama has made Arabs much more aggressive toward Israel and we have armed her enemies under Obama. Stop the foreign aid across the board in the Middle East & North Africa.
