Occupy Colorado Springs Protester Calls U.S. Soldiers ‘Trash’…Says PTSD Is a ‘Designer Mental Illness’

A video has surfaced of a man — presumably an Occupy Colorado Springs protester — calling U.S Soldiers “trash.” The YouTube post claims the video was taken on March 9, at Acacia Park. According to Red White and Blue News, the man’s name is “Anthony Logan Abdo,” but uses the alias “Tony Logan” when he writes for the left-wing blog Not My Tribe. RWB, interestingly, posits that Abdo may in fact be a counselor for soldiers suffering from PTSD.

However, in a post titled Who in the World Really Suffers From PTSD?, Abdo-Logan mocks the affliction as a “designer mental illness” and says that civilians “are encouraged to help U.S. soldiers cry crocodile tears about their supposed sufferings.”

Not the warmest, nor most patriotic-sounding American, it seems. An excerpt reads:

PTSD has become the designer ‘mental illness’ for the Pentagon and Washington elites who design the multitude of US wars abroad in foreign lands. As a result, the corporate US media works full time to convince the American public that only US soldiers as agents carrying out the US generals plans could ever have such a reaction to war time trauma, and not the actual victims of US government foreign policy/ militarism who are never ever mentioned as suffering any ill effects at all.

We all civilians are then encouraged to help the US soldiers cry crocodile tears about their supposed sufferings at the hands of just whom? Is it at the hands of people who defend their own countries from US military occupation? Funny how that question is never ever asked.

RWB, in exploring the possibility that Abdo works with soldiers, infers that Abdo has himself claimed that he works with soldiers suffering from the disorder:

I don’t know if Anthony Abdo really works as a counselor to soldiers with PTSD like he says, but if he does, his employers need to know what he does in his off time and the feelings he has for the people he is supposed to help.  A man that has so much resentment towards our heroes should not be counseling the most vulnerable of them.

But a rudimentary search on the Not My Tribe site reveals “Tony Logan’s” bio, in which he describes himself as a high school drop out, a communist, an atheist and just your “typical American.” He lists a string of past employment but does not, in his bio, claim to be a counselor of any kind. It reads:

I am a high school dropout, and have done every sorry job imaginable since I was 16. That includes cab driver, nurse’s aide, production machinist, garment worker, tamale maker, transporter of undocumented workers, drug pusher, sheetrocker, luggage factory worker, groundskeeper, vampire, and longshoreman. After a series of dead end relationships, I have since become more stable as a family man during my 2 marriages. At times, I drink too much. In short, I am a typical American.

I am also an atheist and communist, with anarchist leanings. I believe that America needs both a legal and illegal Left. Every other country has both, so why not here? The corporations have two parties, so why not all the rest of us?

Unfortunately I have a sleep disorder, so I write a lot of the time all grogged out. Even when I’m not drinking. Still, I hope to give any readers the courtesy and respect they merit. And food for thought.

Counselor or not, Abdo’s latest performance can be viewed below:

People like this need to go and live in a country where the military controls them and has no problem using force if they have the nerve to speak out. I bet they would never say a word that would place themselves in harms way. I sure wouldn’t want them in a fox hole with me if I were in the military, they would be crying like a little baby. I think they would sacrifice their own mother to save their own hide. They are cowards that abuse our freedom of speech to make themselves appear to amount to something when they are NOT. They don’t deserve to be Americans. I am so tired of people that take for granted the rights and freedoms they have and use them to bash our country and the brave men and women who VOLUNTEER to protect and gurantee them those rights, I don’t want them harmed but it would be a good lesson to have them sent to a country where they would understand how darn lucky they are to live here in the USA .

Isn’t it interesting that the people who malign the military the loudest are the same ones who would either not touch military service with a twenty-foot pole or, if they do serve, they work hard to become phoney heroes (John Kerry) then use that platform to run down those they served with. These guys have no morals or class. They don’t deserve the time it takes out of my life to listen to what they have to say.

For more reasons than one this twit wouldn’t have made it past Day 1 in the boot camp I attended, though he would have needed that HS diploma/GED to even get that far. And he surely wouldn’t have the stones to say this where any veteran or active duty member was within earshot.

Man, this is the attitude at the VA. You walk into any VA clinic and it’s like the BMV, and once you endure the apathy of the worthless admin staff, you get to talk to someone like this guy. I’m fairly certain this is the standard attitude, and you get to wait hours in a stressful environment just to talk with someone like this. I literally had a foreign councelor LAUGH at me. I wanted to throw him out the window. Keep it up Blaze! I can assure you there’s a lot more to this story.

JUST. I don’t know what VA you are going to (and yes, there are some bad ones, with some useless personel), but you make it sound like the movie… “Born on the 4th of July”. I have Tri-Care as my main source of med insurance as a Retiree, but have spent many an hour at various VA hospitals. My experiences have been mostly positive. I actually enjoy hanging out with my brothers and sisters laughing at the hired help, lol. Best VA I’ve been to is the VA at Hampton Roads, Virginia and Bay Pines in Seminole, Fla. Even the VA in Albany, NY was not a bad place to get care along with a few others I have had the opportunity to go to. If the local VA has a satelite clinic, I find they are more responsive to basic needs (smaller and more homey I guess).

You can tell by listenning to this guy that he isn’t right. There is something unbalanced about him. If you go on UTUBE and watch some of these Occupy Everything But A Job crowd, you will see that these people expect someone else to take care of them from the cradle to the grave because they really don’t have the life skills to take care of themselves. The Unions who pay them to do this get a big win out of it. In that, they are desperate to survive without getting any more tax payer money and want the conversation to be about class warfare. Who else to do that with, than these useful idiots. I don ‘t feel sorry for these people for the things they say, I feel sorry for them because they are being used and don’t have the mental capacity to process that in a proper way. On the other hand. I am a disabled combat vet and I can tell you that if I ever find out that this moron ever comes to my town I will personally explain PTSD to him in a way he will never forget.

USAF2003, You said it right. I served in Lebannon in “83 Been a disabled Vet for almost 3 decades. We do feel like Americas dirty little secret sometimes. I am sorry {greatly} for those soldiers who gave all but I am still here, so are you and many others. We understood the call to duty when we heard it and we answered. When I was dropped into a hot lz to fortify a base at all costs, it was one of the times I resolved myself to the idea I’m going to die here but I am taking as many of the bastards who are shooting at me with me as I can. That determination kept me alive I didn’t see a lot of action there but we were alowd to stay long enough to get some payback and those particular skinnies will think before attacking us again. As far as ANGRY goes, I have PTSD as well and it is a real disease. To this day, walking up behind me has proved to be a bad experience for some people. Sometimes, if I hear a loud bang it can wind me up so tight I am a basket case for the rest of the day. I only say this because the VA in Indianapolis has been one that for a long time has treated PTSD as an uncertain desease. They take the approach that it may be a scam on Uncle Sam and they want to know if your genuine. This is after a 4 hr. wait jto see them and you know that if U was talking to someone who was competant he would be working in the private sector. It is hard to get service here and they treat youj like you are part of the OWS idiots when you can get their attention.

Not knowing your full stories leaves me to just go with what I know. I do know..if you have problems..legitimate problems withthe VA, there are sources you can utilize. I was in the VA system back when no one heard of PTSD by that name and Dioxin poisoning was still something to be proven. Maude De Victor lost here job at the VA back then http://www.vn-agentorange.org/Cline_20060327.html

As I don’t know your stories, all I can offer is …what I know… Your problems can be taken care of..no..not overnight but knowing how to work in the system. I deal with Veterans everyday and find a lot of what is happening is in what they do and how they do it. When you post like this, all the facts may not be posted and it makes the rest of us wonder. I helped get a new CBOC put in our county and now have 3000 veterans using it and 99% will tell you they get good treatment. Again.. all I offer is what I know. IMHO, you have avenues to use that you may not have as yet. Believe me or not… you did not want to utilize the VA system in the 70′s. Good luck and don’t stop fighting to get what you feel is yours.

I know a lot of men and women ranging from their 20s all the way through their 50s who have served with distinction in the US military, one of them retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (USN for 20 years). Check your facts before making statements like that again, please. As for the POS from the Springs who says all of that crap about the military? I’ve seen the guy up close (I myself live in Colorado Springs) and even as a liberal, I have zero respect for that fat little bastard. I almost punched him in the face on behalf of many on my family who served in the military in not only World War II, but also the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq. I may not agree with the reasons we’re in the Middle East, but at least I don’t disrespect the men and women who serve in the military.

4th tour? 3 in Iraq and this one in Afghanistan. How long is a “tour” anymore? Where I live we have part of the 14th QM ( Scud attack in Desert Storm) and the 107 Arty NG Both have had several tours in the Sand Box, not a year but months per “tour”. Army tour… 9 months or less now, USAF doing about 5 months or less, the Marines at 6 months or less.

This is a far cry from “War Duration” in WWII or the point system in Korea or 1 year Army/13 months Marines in Vietnam. I spent 2 1/2 consecutive years on the ground in South Vietnam, but, I volunteered to stay. I was in Arty. We are all different and we deal with this differently as well. Some have problems after a month…some maybe never. Me… I would volunteer again .. at my age ( social security) , give me ammo, a Ma Deuce and an intersection… throw in a pee jar and I would be good to go Sir.

All I am saying is utilize the resources I mentioned in a past post and you may be surprised. Again… Welcome Home to all who served and are now serving.

You wouldn’t see this guy in combat. He couldn‘t pass the ASVAB and if somehow he did he doesn’t even have the mental capacity to make it through boot. The first time a D.I. came in and started ordering him around the stress would cause his mental illness to show up and he would be D.O.R.ed or sec. 8. However, there would be an up side. Every now and then, one of these waste of life liberals do get in and when these Athiests suddenly find God and see that they can’t get out of service for that, they do go to war. Fortunately for us, useless human beings like this can’t handle the pressure and just stand up during combat and get it over. Making America a safer kplace for the rest of usj.

Very sad. Colorado Springs is a VERY military city. Fort Carson, Peterson AFB, The Air Force Academy, Shriever AFB, and the now closed NORAD all adorn this city. Growing up in the cold war, we used to joke that if the war became hot we wouldn’t have to worry about suffering because Russia would drop at least a dozen warheads on our town alone. Anyways, I digress. Colorado Springs would be a one horse town without the military presence here. Although it has its fair share of libs, this man is in no way indicative of the nature of the city.
