Radicals Smash Windows at NYC Business in Chilling Display of Violent ‘Black Bloc’ Tactics

Two people were arrested in New York City Saturday night after protesters, some with possible Occupy Wall Street connections, vandalized storefronts in what was described as “black bloc” tactics, the New York Times reported. Gothamist reports that a long-time Occupy organizer was one of those arrested for attacking a NYPD officer with a metal pipe:
41-year-old Alexander Penley, is an attorney and has been an Occupy Wall Street organizer since the movement began in the fall.
Penley, along with 30-year-old Nicholas Thommen, were arrested around 10 p.m. after what witnesses described as a violent scuffle between the two men and police officers, and are charged with a litany of offenses, including assaulting a police officer, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and inciting a riot.
Penley has been quoted in stories about Occupy Wall Street in The Guardian and USA Today, and appeared on the local Manhattan television show Let Them Talk in October.
The NYPD’s press release on the arrests refers to them as “anarchist-related arrests of individuals among a group of 25 who fought with police and who had tried to use eight-foot-long galvanized metal pipes to smash windows of a Starbucks at Astor Place and Lafayette Street at 8:45 p.m.” The police also claim that patrons of Starbucks were hiding under the tables during the incident.
A black bloc is a protest tactic where protesters wear black clothing and mask their faces to make it harder for police to pick out individuals.
Tim Pool, who livecasts Occupy events, filmed police cars blocking off Tompkins Square Park around 9: 20 p.m., according to the Times. In his video, he narrates that “after the Anarchist Book Fair supposedly a black bloc formed and there was a lot of property destruction, a few windows broken.”
“We heard that a few people tried to smash some Starbucks windows and ‘some Mafioso-looking guys came out with big poles and started swinging them,’” Pool narrates. “Apparently they’re still on the move too, we just don’t know where they are,” he adds later.
The East Village blog EV Grieve reported people around the park said protesters smashed windows at Starbucks and a 7-11.
“About 50 ppl dressed in black bashing windows, attacking 7-11 sign, chanting ‘nypd go to hell,’” Twitter user @Ewingweb tweeted at 8:57 p.m.

According to Gothamist, the two arrests occurred an hour later outside a nearby community center after bottles were reportedly thrown from the roof during an after-party for the anarchist event. However, attendees told Gothamist their party was unrelated to the unrest.
The exact degree to which the vandalizing protesters were connected with Occupy remains unclear. Twitter user @mcompost, a self-described “anarchist legal worker,” said the protest began as a 60-person large “FTP [F--k the Police] march.”
“These folks are making oo [Occupy Oakland] look like a bunch of hippies! so many bottles…” he tweeted. He later added: “And there go the 7 11 windows.”
Local shop Ray’s Candy Store, which has served “Occupy fries” in honor of the movement, tweeted several messages in disgust of Saturday’s events.
“ATTN: #OWS- Your actions tonight in the #EastVillage were abhorrent. Any sympathy people may have for your movement suffers with this crap,” @RaysCandyStore tweeted.

In a video posted Sunday, veteran activist organizer Lisa Fithian — who has provided training for Occupy Wall Street-affiliated groups — discussed the black bloc tactic and its origins in Germany in the 1970s. Fithian said she doesn‘t personally like black blocs because they’re vulnerable to infiltration — undercover police officers can easily slip in — and prefers to “work strategically, but know that we have different ways that we need to work.”

We don’t like the left doing it so we should be careful not to do the same thing until all the facts are sifted through. What I fear most is that this country is getting so polarized between left and right that there may be an internal war like what happened in Spain about 70 years ago where left and right ideologies were to blame.

I am glad that I live in a state that still respects my 2nd ammendment rights. If I was a Starbucks patron sitting at a window and someone swung a pipe at the window- with me behind the glass- I would be in fear of my safety and life and would take the appropriate action to “stop” the individual who was a threat.

What is going to happen on May 1st? Anyone want to hazard a guess, because I don’t know, other than there will be a ‘gathering’ of communists and anarchists. I lived right beside East Germany in West Germany. Driving about 30 min. and we saw the towers with soldiers and guns. Any person that tried to flee through the so called no-mans land and getting through the fence were shot and killed. If not killed jailed and tortured.
All my husbands family lives in ex-East Germany. Had it not been for the for-sight of his parents to flee before the wall went up, he too would have been stuck in that kind of life.
This guy is an idiot. He has no clue of what he is talking about.
So what, that he saw people demonstrating and getting shot in a communist country, which is what they want to establish. They think they can produce utopia. But all they are doing is bringing on their own downfall.
What was interesting to see is how many people are upset about him advocating non-violence.
I suppose he should get credit for that.
These people of OWS are spoiled brats who should go and work an honest day. EARN a living instead of TAKING it from others.
Are there things that are wrong with government? Yes, go vote!
Perhaps these people should go and live in Africa or North Korea or the Ukraine for a while. Then they will know what is wrong with some governments.

We have only been taught part of the story. “Settlers”. But earlier travels here, were ‘proprietary’ in nature. And were sponsored as business ventures. Contracts were singed, property leveraged (including people, some of whom were considered property… and no, not ‘blacks’), profits divvied up and so on.
The ‘crown’ believed the world belonged to God and His people. And it was there to make profit from. Much of the early settlements were in fact early forms of franchisees. To make a long story short, “commerce” was the name of the game.
‘Independence’ of ‘governing’ and from the crown (and her commerce) are all separate things, in their view. And in the view of many of our present life influences as well.
There isn’t room here to go into those things, but suffice it to say that you are correct. We are still tied at the hip of contractual commerce and law to Briton. And it ain’t likely to ever change.

This is utter nonsense and an attempt to deflect from the fact that muslims engaged in Jihad are responsible for the violence associated with Islam. Muslims come in every shape and color and to pretend that non-muslims do not recognize Jihad when it is being openly waged all over the planet, every day of the year, by muslims of every ethnicity, is an insult to the intelligence of the non–muslim people of Earth.
Muslim engaged in Jihad in effort to spread Islam and Sharia happens every single day and it has nothing to do with “al-qaeda” fakery.

I get that you might be okay with that, believing that the protesters deserve to be hurt by the police for whatever crimes you imagine they committed, but if that is the case then you are okay with violence as retribution for violations of law, and since police brutality is also a violation of law, you have just provided the moral justification for black bloc members to use violence just like the police do.
The LAST thing we need is violence, or justifications of violence. You would do well to speak out AGAINST it, not for it.

Police brutality came first, then reactions by protesters. I and others in this movement have been speaking to our own people about why window-breaking and similar tactics are not the answer, but I don’t see conservatives trying to stop the police brutality that keeps INSPIRING these acts.
You, and people who think like you, are responsible for every broken window in this movement. It is and always has been a reaction against the violence committed by police, violence that only continues because you are okay with it, because you ADVOCATE it.
So tell me: If Occupiers will be beaten by the police whether they break windows or not–if their actions have no relationship to how they are treated by police — why should they stop? Because it is the right thing to do? Doesn’t that apply to the police as well? And if so… why is it that instead of taking up the rallying cry against police brutality alongside the rallying cry against window-breaking, you are instead blathering on about why it is okay to hurt people? Preferably with a large capacity drum magazine. I just have to wonder how many of the actual trouble makers are Union Goons or other Democrat Party affiliated thugs. It doesn’t take a lot of people to instigate a riot, only a handful of agent provocateurs can whip an otherwise peaceful crowd into a dangerous mob. Look at how much trouble Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton cause whenever they open their fat mouths. Think about the Duke Lacrosse Team non-rape case. Jesse and Al nearly cost those boys their futures. Luckily the boys had the courage to refuse any plea deal or their lives would’ve been destroyed over a lie. Look at how Jesse, Al, Louis et al have blown a simple self defense shooting into an incredibly dangerous situation.
The question is: What happens when a black block of idiotic anarchists run into a black block of committed patriots? My guess is that it would be incredibly unhealthy for the anarchists.

This May 5th is going to be the start of the real ‘firestorm’…there are fliers all over downtown and around the city calling for mass civil unrest and destruction…these people are deadly serious and the mayhem is cheered by Barry and his lemming like followers…as you can see, they even destroy property owned by their supporters…they are savages and gutter snipes and no amount of spin can change that, like rats, they turn on their own.

Please educate yourself about Absentee voting as the Democraps have it down to a Science. If for any reason you feel you may be too busy on Nov. 6 get out and Vote Absentee.
