Occupy Movement Recruiting Police and Marines: ‘Tell Police to Get Involved!’

OccupyPolice OccupyMarines Groups Sprout Up

Last week, a video went viral showing Marine Sergeant Shamar Thomas berating  a group of New York City Police Officers who were minding a crowd of “Occupy Wall Street” protesters near Times Square on the Global Day of Rage. Now, that video has sparked an offshoot movement calling on Marines to join the Occupy movement. In fact, it even has its own website and suggested dress code.

(Related: NYC shootings increase and cops blame the Occupy protests)

First, the video. In it, Thomas, an Iraq War veteran, confronts a seemingly random group of officers, hinting at instances of alleged police brutality:

The police appear to be simply attempting to move along the crowd when Sgt. Thomas berates and accuses the police of “walking around trying to hurt people.” Sgt. Thomas has become a celebrity of sorts for his YouTube tirade, having since appeared on Current TV as a guest of Keith Olbermann, Russia Today, and has visited the Occupiers in Zuccotti Park. Blaze Reporter Buck Sexton noticed Thomas in the crowds Saturday:

OccupyPolice OccupyMarines Groups Sprout Up

Having worked in intelligence prior to joining The Blaze, Sexton notes that there are plenty of former service members who wear the NYPD blues now:

“While Sgt. Thomas is correct– there is no honor in police brutality– it wasn’t apparent then or now that anyone takes the opposite side of that argument. So the implication seemed to be that police actions taken against Occupy Wall Street  should fall under the designation “brutality.”

As someone who has stood in the crowd with the Occupiers many times, I’ve never witnessed a violent act initiated by a police officer, nor seen anyone threatened for exercising their 1st amendment rights. I also know that there are hundreds if not thousands of veterans who also served in Iraq and Afghanistan currently wearing the uniform of the NYPD. In fact, the Police Commissioner himself is a decorated Marine and a Vietnam veteran.” [Emphasis added]

That said, and seemingly inspired by Sgt.Thomas, a new movement has sprouted up called is “OccupyMARINES,” a group that says it “will support demonstrators with organization, direction, supply and logistics, and leadership.”

In fact, the group’s website even suggests a dress code for those service members coming down to join the protesters:

OccupyMARINES Are Organizing A Dress Code For All Non-Active ‘Occupy’ Military Supporters.

OccupyMARINES Are Organizing Blouses Which Identify Branch
Affiliation Affixed With An OWS Logo For Shirts And Sweatshirts.

Non-Dress Uniform:

1. Dicky’s EMT Black Cargo Pants
(http://www.dickies.com/occupational-clothing/occupational-men/occupational-mens-pants/EMT-Pant-2112377.jsp)
2. Ranger Joe’s Corcoran Boots-I XC Jump Black Aviator Boots
(http://www.rangerjoes.com/Corcoran-Boots-I-XC-Jump-P1365C4.aspx)

3. Blouse Bands
Should Non-Active Military Supporters Present Themselves At Demonstrator Groups In Military Dress Uniform We Ask They Do Not Actively Participate With Group Activities; We Will Honor Our Military Uniforms And The Sacrifices Of Our Brothers And Sisters. Only Non-Dress Uniform Supporters May Actively Participate.

OccupyMARINES makes clear it is not looking for active-duty support, only former service members.

But another movement isn’t making that distinction. As Business Insider notes, there’s also a movement sprouting up called “Occupy Police.” Occupy Police describe themselves as “the 99% protecting 100%.”

OccupyPolice OccupyMarines Groups Sprout Up

According to the group’s website, Monday marks Day 4 of the “#OccupyPolice movement.” The about section of the group’s website reads: “There‘s a misconception that police aren’t part of the 99%– This should end that misconception.” It gives further instructions on its website:

  • If you are a protester, send us photos of You in Solidarity with Police at your occupation and we will post them to the site
  • If you are an officer, send us photos of You in Solidarity with Protesters at your and we will post them to the site
  • If you have video showing Police in Solidarity with the people, send it to us and we will post it on our YouTube channel and share it with the world
  • Make signs that say “Police are part of the 99%’ with “#OccupyPolice & OccupyPolice.org” on the signs, fly the signs in the street then take a picture and send it to us and we will post it to the site
  • Tell Police they are part of the 99%
  • Tell Police to get involved!

The group plans to hold its first General Assembly live on Twitter Monday night.

Standing up for free speech, nothing wrong with that. Emboldening those who have a stated goal of destroying our system of government, with violence if necessary and replacing it with an unconstitutional system is wrong headed at best and treasonous at worst.

No WWII or Veitnam or Korean war vet would ever ever ever act like this. Those men and women were from an honorable generation. Today’s war vets are just like their non-vet counterparts, spoiled, entitled, victims. Not all – but many. Enough with the coddling, buck up and take responsibility for yourselves and respect authority.

I have often wondered the men and women that either a) were drafted or b) entered ONLY as a way to fund college or get a ‘free’ ride in some way vs. joining up for love of country or to ‘get the bad guys’ are the ones that root to destroy the Constitution. I just don’t know enough military folks to get a feel for what makes the huge difference of patriotic vs. loathing of USA current and vets. I figured many here have served and could give some insight.
There is a man I work with that is gay and I was surprised when he told me he had served in the 90′s in the Navy. When I thanked him for his service, he got real weird and said something about not being in combat, I told him it didn’t matter, he was ready to serve if needed and I had ultimate respect for our military, he said I shouldn’t and he absolutely is all liberal. We don’t see eye to eye on MANY things to say the least. He flipped when he saw a Beck book at my desk :-) Funny.
Love oathkeepers, but it’s people like this guy and my co worker that makes me wonder how many would use their training and turn on the Constitution. Any Insight?

This is getting serious! I think this guy is one of the few but can’t be sure! These officers seemed to just be standing there and he then goes on to make a video insinuating they were roughing people up. “The Truth has No Agenda”. It seems this fellow might be an infiltrator out to push some marxist socialist issue’s in the military and to make the majority of us think that the majority of military agree with him. Obama would love nothing more than to have a military that protects the Radicals. If he is still enlisted wouldn’t this go against some standard or code of behavior?

The bicameral mind is easily manipulated as it readily submits to external authority.

There people have abandoned the function of their conscious mind and will do WHATEVER their external authority figure instructs them.

152 years ago Abraham Lincoln warned us:

“At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest, with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years.

At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time, or die by suicide.” Abraham Lincoln – Lyceum Address 1838

There are so many reasons this guy is either lying, or about to get a major UCMJ (uniform code of military justice) violation. IF he is in the military, wearing that shirt (out of regs) to a political rally, means he is “representing” the Marines. That is a big NO-NO. Next, while wearing the unform, incorrectly or not, he would need to be shaven, hat on, and button it up. There is nothing about this guy that says he has a shred of evidence that he is still in, or got out honorably.
