Occupy Oakland Prevents City Vote on Weapons Ban by Disrupting Mtg: ‘I Could…Kill You With a F***ing Pencil’

In typical Occupy fashion, members of Occupy Oakland successfully disrupted a meeting where city officials were considering an ordinance that would have banned demonstrators from using weapons such as clubs, hammers and shields.

During the meeting, demonstrators cursed, yelled and made statements that could easily be perceived as threats against city leaders.

Occupy protesters were reportedly concerned that a weapons ban would leave them defenseless against police violence. Local police were eventually forced to clear the City Council’s public safety committee meeting, effectively preventing a vote on the measure. Three votes were needed to bring it before the full Oakland City Council.

The Oakland Tribune witnessed the mayhem:

While members of the group have disrupted previous City Council meetings, Occupiers were especially hostile during Tuesday’s Public Safety Committee.

Several members cursed at Councilmember Pat Kernighan , the committee chairwoman and sponsor of the proposed ordinance. Others hinted at violence if the measure ultimately was approved.

“I want to tell you Pat Kernighan that I could walk up to you and kill you with a F_ pencil. Are you going to outlaw pencils?” asked an Occupy member who goes only by the name Stephanie.

Occupy Oakland videographer and member Jessica Hollie warned near the end of an expletive-laden speech, “If you take away our shield, the only thing left is our second amendment right.”

But apparently the meeting got out of control after a final speaker began speaking critically of Occupy Oakland. The speaker argued that it was unfair that citizens have to put up with the “unruly” behavior that borders on “terrorism,” according to The Oakland Tribune. At this, Occupy protesters began mocking and shouting him down.

Despite the toxic environment, law enforcement was reportedly able to clear the meeting without incident.

However, Occupy Oakland was not without support from city council members. Councilwoman Nancy Nadel said she would have voted down the proposed weapons ban and that an additional council member wanted to alter the ordinance.

“The most hurtful, violent behavior against people has been done by police,” Nadel told The Oakland Tribune.

Councilmembers Nadel, Kernighan and Larry Reid could not be reached for comment.

“The most hurtfull, violent behavior against people have been done by poliice”, states Councilmember Nadel. That to me sounds like she favors anarchy. Police are being hit with bottles, rocks, etc., and that is okay with Nadel. If the Oakland city council promotes anarchy than that city is doomed. I am just wondering, how much time has Nadel and her socialist co-horts on the city council spent hanging out with those peaceful OW’S. Maybe she should go spend a couple of days “living the experience”. She may come back with a different way of looking at OW, that is if she isn’t beaten or raped by one of its good-hearted members.

I live in S. Ca and we are much more sane(except the LA movie scene). I would rather see Ca split into No. Ca and S. Ca like N & S Carolina. I think that is the only way we can dump Palosi; Waters; Waxman and all the other commies and socialist. We are begging for conservative candidates for the House & Senate.

While i do not approve of the tactics that the occupy groups use, i do agree with one thing, and that is, it would be a very dangerous thing for any of the governing bodies to ban and type of weapon, ie, bats, clubs, hammers, swords, etc. etc. , because it would open the door wide to banning firearms of any type, while the occupy groups tend to use these weapons offensively, a ban would also include any and all weapons used defensively,, and that is exactly where the govt want to get to !

If these individuals are being disruptive, and destructive,, arrest and charge them with the crime.
But the 2nd amendment gives us the right to protect ourselves and our property, from the crazy occupy groups and from the crazy govt officials.
The general public knows this, and it will be a very dangerous thing for them to try to start banning weapons. it would get ugly real quick !

Just what part of “or the right of the people PEACEABLY to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” do these idiots not understand? They brought the violence to the table and refuse to be peaceable themselves. Therefore, they have invited the police to become violent with them to enforce the law.

@ Raging Gadsden, Do you not see the hypocrisy of you telling another group that they cannot and should not have the right to self defense while they are protesting? Personally, I find that the occupy movement is protesting for more of the hair of the dog that bit them and are completely 180 degrees in the wrong, however, they are all human beings and as I am a Libertarian, I believe firmly that they have the right of self defense. So it wouldn’t bother me one iota if they all were carrying rifles and peaceably protesting. Hell, I‘ve almost always got a gun within arms reach everywhere I go and I haven’t shot anyone (yet).

What we are seeing here is the tendency of people to fear other armed people and feel that they should make more laws to deter crimes that can be handled quite well with existing laws. There is no need to make more laws concerning weapons. All we have to do is enforce our assault and murder laws.

…and when it conflagrates, may all the commie occupiers burn with it.
Given the opportunity, they will set every major city on fire with their juvenile tantrums. They are unconcerned with the American lives and property they put at risk – all they care about is their “glorious revolution.”

As Americans we have a schoice – Containment, or Contagion. I vote for Containment – Put all these radical freaks on a big, rusty old barge, haul it out into deep water, and sink it. They can all sing ***‘Baya as they ’return to the Earth’ they worship as a god.

I have argued against such ‘final solutions’ for 20 years, but now I am convinced – communism is cancer. You can’t educate it out of people, you can’t eliminate it by raising their standard of living, you won’t eliminate it by any “reasonable means” whatsoever. If you don’t kill the cancer, the cancer WILL kill the patient – it is only a matter of time… and America has had this disease for several generations now. That Liberty did not die 40 or 50 years ago is a testament to our faith and resilience as Americans, but these have been aggressively worn down by the hands of an Evil cause.

Barring such a definitive solution, I believe we are headed for not one, but dozens of “Kent State moments” very soon, and the Liar-in-Chief will then have a perfect emergency to work with, in his desire to transform America into a communist state…

Oddly, I agree with them. Oakland has no right to disarm them.

I feel nauseated that I agree with them and I know that it means someone will be killed by one of them, but the 2nd Amendment exists exactly for this reason.

@LEFTFIGHTER, Let’s see if I understand you correctly. You think it should be ok for people who are supposedly participating in a peaceful demonstration to carry clubs and hammers to bust out store and car windows and shields to protect themselves from police when those police try to enforce the law. Did I get that right? Why do people in a peaceful demonstration need clubs and hammers? Gee, all this time I have been thinking distruction of private property is a crime. Just in case you missed it, this is not a denial of second amendment rights. The second amendment provides for personal protection of life and property, not the right to destroy other peoples property.

It’s sad that these occupiers continue to disrupt meetings and society and get away with it.
I wonder if I took my Boy Scout troop to a city meeting and disrupted it like these people do, or set up tents for camping like these people do, if it would be tolerated by the government? I wonder how the MSM would portray my scout troop if we did the same things as the “occucrappers.” Unfortunately, things will just get worse as the weather gets better.

MDDAWG, LOL, funny you should mention taking your Boy Scouts to a city meeting. My son who now in his 20s, their Boy Scout troop attended two or three Town Hall meetings where the troop was located. During one of the discussions regarding hitting one single business with a couple of years of retrofitted taxes simply to raise funds. My son raised his hand and spoke his mind. Now mind you, he was all of thirteen or fourteen at the time, and said that made no sense and they were just picking on one particular business because they were successful and making money….that they were paying taxes on, as well as paying employees who paid taxes. It sparked a heated brief heated debate with most of the attending populace against suggested ordinance. The measure failed, and the owner of the business took the troop into the larger city for ice cream. It was funny.

I’m not exactly sure what you are saying here in your reply. I love 2nd Ammendment Rights. Probably would quickly solve the Occupy Movement modus operandi if several City Mayors just came out and said: “we cannot staff enough police deal with your nonsense, so today Occupy is on notice: every citizen, every store owner has the right to defend his or her life and property with force. If a shop owner in my city sees your masked mob approaching with hammers and pipes – they have every right to assume bodily harm and have the right to shoot.
