Occupy on Display: When I Grow Up, I Want to be a Professional Protester!

Enjoy this video of MRCTV‘s Dan Joseph asking three New York City “May Day” protesters why they are protesting and what their long-term their goals are.

We can’t decide if the results are hilarious or depressing (maybe both?). This is what we learned from the video:

  • People aren’t “giving away free college anymore.”
  • People aren’t giving away “free college” because all colleges want is more money.
  • You have to pay for an education even though there isn’t a guarantee it’s going to be the best education.
  • We need a “more equal” world: more equal financially and culturally. “Everybody should be on the same page” (mind you, this is coming from the girl with the anarchy symbol drawn on her face like she just came from the face painting booth at some bizarre, alternative universe 4-H Fair).
  • The three kids in the video want to grow up to be professional protesters.

Okay, we made up our minds. This video is kinda’ depressing. Watch the magic of Occupy unfold via MRCTV:

Now it would be unfair to say that this minute-and-a-half clip is indicative of the entire Occupy movement. Just because a couple of kids display a poor grasp of basic economics (and history, civics, etc.) doesn’t necessarily mean everyone in the movement has a poor understanding of how the world works.

But the fact that this video isn’t exactly original (although this one is admittedly much more fun to watch than most) shows a disturbing trend. Indeed, there is a preponderance of “man on the street” style videos that show Occupy protesters demonstrating a laughably poor understanding of basic economics.

So rather than single out the unfortunate participants in this video (after all, they’re just high schoolers), perhaps we should focus on the bigger question: where are they learning this stuff? As far as the MRCTV video is concerned, it’s painfully obvious that these girls didn’t come up with these ideas on their own.

Parents can only go so far, when they are limited or have no choice where their kids can go because of no school voucher program; or they can’t afford private school or they can, but there are no spaces.

Then they are stuck with liberal professors and teachers and upper management that doesn‘t care or cant’ do anything because their teachers are union members who can’t be fired, or — if lucky — transfered. You can litterally — not figuratively — come to class and do nothing, fall asleep, molest or even rape your students, and because of the union you cant’ get fired, and even sometiems they don’t have to worry about even being disciplined.

And not every parents can home school. And watch — come a day, and they’ll make it illegal to home school.

Why can’t anybody home school their kids? My husband and I did it. We’re no brainiacs, and we never earned more than $50,000.00/year with BOTH of us working.(me, occasionally, part-time) Maybe a single parent can’t, but if there are two parents who are both dedicated to the REAL BEST for their kids, (rather than the Phony best, which is all the junk that money can buy), you CAN DO IT!

Unless you are mentally deficient you can do a better job than your average public school. And even more now, than when we did it, half the stuff they are shoving into the kids is politically-correct drivvel. Eliminate all that junk, and your 16 year old still has time for a part-time job to save for college.

Now, if you’re not serious, and you’re going to let your kids stay up til 1:00 AM playing video games, and get out of bed at 1:00 PM next day, (Like only two of the MANY home schooling families I knew), forget it. But if you care about your kids more than you care about having big-screen TV’s, or Magazine cover kitchens, you CAN DO IT!!! Skip that stuff, NEVER have money for a vacation, and keep one parent down to a part-time job, and YOU CAN DO IT!

this and she would say ‘”because no one will do it for us”. She worked her way thru college and is now preparing for her first child, my son in law and her will be home schooling for they do not trust the current educational system.

These kids are morons…. why gee, they fit right in with the rest of the morons of occupy, maybe they should all get together an occupy a brain cell…

Pack them up, have them live in Cuba for a few years, when they are crying and wailing to mommy and daddy to please rescue them, lets see how much they love a world like Cuba.

When I went to college– 3 of the 4 years– some group was on strike (faculty, staff, etc…)… every time, the school caved to the union demands (after a week or two of disruptions) and each time my tuition went up the following year. Even some of the dolts failing basic math could see the correlation. So if education is free, I suppose the schools won’t be able to afford the upkeep or pay the faculty or staff.

But if they want a free education, they could join the “imperialist” military or work for one of those “evil” corporations that pays for tuition reimbursement. Or, just say that you’re an illegal alien (oops, I’m a racist for using the “I” word) and get a (mostly) free ride.

Free education is not a right. It’s time the Gubment got out of the whole schools and education business. Let towns, churches, families, and communities take over, like it used to be. Abraham Lincoln was very poor when young, yet he, by his own initiative, walked miles and hours just to borrow one book. He would try his best to acquire state law books and study, study, and study, all while working hard to care for himself, and his family. He received no tax deductions, food stamps, federal loans, library card, public transportation, or union benefits. He helped his family at home, hunted for food, and made his own clothes. His family lived in a cabin, in the woods, and on a dirt floor for quite some years. Yet, this same Abraham Lincoln became one of the greatest lawyers to ever set foot in the State of Illinois, he was greatly respected. This same Abraham Lincoln eventually became the President of the US. This is America, for Pete’s sake. We’re not Cuba, or Russia. Private property, individual rights, personal responsibility, liberty, frugality, faith, hard work, family, respect, a genuine desire to advance in one’s career in order to prosper, and the initiative to educate one self is what made and continues to make this the greatest country ever. Enough of the communist propaganda in all aspects of our lives. It’s time to raise up a new generation of kids that actually understand what self governance and Independence means.

Dang, this is quite disturbing. Our nation is doomed. God have mercy on us.

“Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me. The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.

Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.

Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers…

And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable…

As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.”

Gee. Now the kids in high school are being “educated” to think that Fascism (i.e., having everyone on the same page) is desirable. I just can’t wait to hear them talk about how “sexy” it is to wear burkas, and how shariah law is “what’s best” for us all, and especially for women.

Well, O.K.: I can indeed wait. It would be so nice if that doesn’t happen. And yet, 150 years from now, people will definitely ask, “How come people didn’t stop it while there was still time? How could they let those things happen? It would be impossible not to see it: it was so obvious!”

All ubermenchen were to be equal. That status was achievable by a hierarchy, in nazis’ minds. The same applies to the communism. The dictature of the proletariat (in reality a self appointed elite) had similar stated “noble” goals. But the means to the end were it, the real thing.

Both ideologies led to two class stratification, neatly reestablishing the feudal structure.

Sadly, I think you’re wrong. 150 years from now all of this will have been scrubbed from history books and lesson plans. Anyone found keeping personal records will likely be killed or imprisoned. The women will receive only minimal education; as will about 75% of the men. There won’t be a need for America to try to have the best and brightest any longer, as we will all be part of one global government. The bulk of the world’s technological advancements will be gone; the human race will effectively be living in 1800-era Egypt.

      JZS

I applaud the sincerity in your post. It takes a big man to admit when they have no knowledge on an issue. Don’t worry though. It is simple and I’ll walk you through it.

Liberals believe the right hates the poor. Those who have not obtained a higher education may buy that, but the facts are straightforward.

Many polls have highlighted the gap between charitable giving’s of the right vs. left. Those claiming to care for the poor are out donated by the same people they claim hate the poor. So we know that anyone advancing that idea is either ignorant of the facts or a liar.

There is also a liberal argument portraying government assistance as charity. Those who didn’t get a good education may buy that also. That position is so asinine it doesn’t even require an explanation. Just discount anything said buy someone making that claim.

You already admitted to knowing little on this subject so I won’t chide you but you would be hard pressed to find a private group that does more for the poor than the church, and by hard pressed I mean incapable.

In all, as a good rule of thumb, just remember anyone claiming the left cares for the poor who are despised by the right is either ignorant or lying to you, but most often there just lying. Also, don’t forget to discount everything said by someone who believes govt. assistance is charity. Hope this helps!

Wow, life isn’t free. But shouldn’t we all be FREE and EQUAL. If we could all be tall, good looking, same color eyes, same color hair…….kind of a master race. Then we could all be exactly the same, drive the same car, have just one kid, eat the same food, wear the same clothes. The only difference would be the number we are assigned. Wow, this is going to be a great dream these kids have, and I guess if I don’t want to work, there will be another equal person to pick up my slack, because we all need to be equal and fair. I forgot, it needs to be fair. So if you are more athletic,

Can we all be equally sarcastic?

One problem, who is going to be the master to make sure everything is equal, but they would be MORE equal than everyone else. I seem to remember a country just like this…….somewhere in NE Asia?

      Thanks Detroit.

There are a lot of people in my Division that take our job very seriously, lives depend on what we do. Where you see a lot of this waste is in Local/State Govts and with Agencies. Think about the EPA and GSA, they are administrative in nature, if they screw up, no one dies. When the dollars dry up, they will be feeling the pain, just like we are right now. (our budget has been cut by almost 30% in the last 3 years, but the work/mission hasn’t decreased.)

“Now it would be unfair to say that this minute-and-a-half clip is indicative of the entire Occupy movement. Just because a couple of kids display a poor grasp of basic economics (and history, civics, etc.) doesn’t necessarily mean everyone in the movement has a poor understanding of how the world works.”

    Oh really?

“It was difficult, if not disingenuous, for the Tea Party groups to try to disown the behavior. They had organized the rally, and under their model of self-policing, they were responsible for the behavior of people who were there. And after saying for months that anybody could be a Tea Party leader, they could not suddenly dismiss as faux Tea Partiers those protesters who made them look bad.”

      @Meyvn

I believe he is referring to a once proud newspaper that reached it’s zenith in popularity and credibility, in the mid 20th century. It went by the slogan “All the news fit to print.”

By the early 21st century it had become a laughable propaganda piece for Socialists. Today it is an anachronistic relic of a once proud media tradition.

Ranger, it was 1979, when Newsweek made it known that they are not in business to provide news, but to form public opinions. At least they were honest about it NYT was doing it way earlier, still pretending they were in news business. Since then, the news agencies that did not jump on the bandwagon may be as rare as unicorns.
