Occupy Protesters Force Cantor to Cancel Economic Speech

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was forced to cancel an economic speech ahead of a planned Occupy demonstration against him. (AP)

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor abruptly canceled an economic speech at the University of Pennsylvania after learning his Friday address was likely to be packed with Occupy Philadelphia protesters.

Cantor (R-Va.) was expected to address the issue of income disparity in a speech titled “A Fair Shot at the American Dream and Economic Growth” at the university’s Wharton School of Business, according to The Hill. He reportedly canceled it just three-and-a-half hours beforehand.

Occupy Philadelphia, the city’s offshoot of the ongoing Occupy Wall Street movement, had planned an “Occupy Eric Cantor” demonstration and march, according to the group’s Facebook page. They planned to march from City Hall to the campus to protest Cantor.

A Cantor spokeswoman said the last-minute cancellation was because the school couldn’t guarantee the previously set attendance policy.

“The Office of the Majority Leader was informed last night by Capitol Police that the University of Pennsylvania was unable to ensure that the attendance policy previously agreed to could be met,” Cantor spokeswoman Laena Fallon told The Hill. “Wharton is a educational leader in innovation and entrepreneurship, and the Majority Leader appreciated the invitation to speak with the students, faculty, alumni, and other members of the UPENN community.”

Cantor said earlier this month he was “increasingly concerned about the growing mobs occupying Wall Street and the other cities across the country.” He later walked back those remarks, saying the frustration they represent is “warranted.”

As news spread of the cancellation, Occupy Philadelphia celebrated on its Twitter account with the post: “#Winning. #OccupyPhilly.” It also changed its plans from a protest against Cantor to a “March for Integrity.”

Yep they are clearly using thug tactics because “this is what democracy looks like”. Wonder who really initiated it though was it a true Occupy_ drone of some union thug infiltrator educating on thuggery 101! Its Obama style though as he made it clear at an SEIU event he’s been working with SEIU his entire adult life… he’s been there, done that! Its only about free speech when it concerns them or someone in their favor. Anyone else freedom of speech is optional. I wonder what other rights are open to interpretation to the #Occupy_ dolts? Keep in mind folks these are the same people who want to take everything over, bring the system down. This is in fact a clear example of what would happen in their world… NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH from anyone in opposition.

Now I will say Cantor should have manned up and gone ahead with it so he has in fact empowered them. Please be sure to slam his social media and thank him! He isnt off the hook for doing this, DC is fair game especially when the cower to bullies and threats. TAPGW http://SavingtheRepublic.com

“Forced to cancel?” Like they blocked the doors?

Nah, he chickened out. He might have to explain why his “fair shot at the American dream” includes firing teachers, policemen and firefighters and raising taxes on the poor and middle class, while lowering taxes on the wealthy. He might be asked why he’s actually tilting the playing field against those who want that “fair shot” and in favor of those who already have the American Dream, meaning the people who are already in a position to donate large sums of money to his campaign.

Letting commie, dirtbag protesters keep him from speaking is weak, unbecoming of a representative of the people. They need to write their own bills, not farm it out to non-elected companies. Can we discuss this within the confines of viable actions? Republicans can curb some of Obama’s presidential overreach now that they have control of the House, but only a Congressional majority can put a stop to his abuse of executive power. We both know the commies have hijacked the Dim Party, so they need to go as well and that MAY take a civil war. Nevertheless, Cantor stood up to Obama when Obamacare was rammed through, and I salute him for that, considering how vicious the commie organizer can be.

In re Cantor canceling his speech, I already expressed my view, but let me add that I believe the outcome would have been far worse if Cantor had shown up. The disruption these “protesters” caused would’ve been aired on all the networks over and over again – and that’s taking the best of all likely outcomes. These scuumbags wanted to draw blood from a REPUBLICAN Majority Leader, they wanted their video to go viral like the one where shoes were thrown at Bush, and Cantor effectively gave them the finger.

==> “Would you want our military to perform the same way?”

I told you how I grade our military brass and intel agencies. I give them an F for failing to perform their sworn duty.

@DANIELBURKE, unlike the TeaParty celebrations, which were heavily promoted, staged, and underwritten by Fox and corporate backers, the Occupy Wall Street came with their own money and have managed to stay with donations. And contrary to what you see here, on Fox, and the rest of the Conservative blogsphere, they are not dirty, smelly, lacking in principles, or anti-Semitic. They don’t want everything for free, they just want the chance to earn a decent living and to get what they have bought and paid for in their lives.

I’ve been to both Zucotti Park in NYC and Liberty Plaza in D.C. I also attended 9/12 and 8/28 and I was in Congress the day before Healthcare passed. I’ve seen TeaCons in action. These folks can think for themselves, they don’t have to repeat Fox talking points. That’s the difference between grassroots and Astroturf. I was there at the same time the one guy with one anti-Semitic sign was there. They sang “Hey, Hey, Good-bye” when he yelled his anti-Semitic slurs and they held signs in front of the “Google Zionist Millionaire” sign and made it clear that they didn’t agree. And while this was going on, in the center of the park dozens of people were celebrating Sukkot courtesy of Chabad, who brought the Lulav and Etrog, but one of the protesters had already brought a popup Sukkah. I also saw observant Muslims in the park, and middle class people, and older people who had marched against the Vietnam War and I saw veterans, too. But whe

Nah – it won’t be that quick or easily identifiable.

      - Were already letting strangers (TSA) look at our wives and kids naked.
      - You cannot own a gun without having it registered – remember they collected guns after Katrina
      - They are printing money out of thin air – devaluing our money & resources – in effect stealing.
      - We are forced to pay for welfare babies
      - We are forced to pay for welfare mommies locations
      - Trillions of debt being loaded onto our shoulders
      - They are trying to force us to pay for others’ healthcare
      - Rising food prices, cars we cannot fix by ourselves, news bias
      - You cannot smoke weed if alone in your house
      - add your own

We being carted off alright…. but we just don’t realize it yet. We need to seriously shrug off some government.

I actually pray that we gun owners will be enough to overcome the evil dirtbags that permeate this nation. I know I will not go quietly. I pray that our military, both current and veterans, will uphold the oath taken to protect the citizens of this nation and the Constitution, that they will do what is necessary if a president moves to take total control of this country. I pray that someone right now is thinking that this may have to be acted upon. But, it makes me wonder when you have a Cantor who cowtows to making a speech because of the few, or a Bloomberg who cowtows to clearing out a park due to the few, or a so-called president and his master soros who actually are pushing this agenda to take out America, are we just going to wait and “hope” we can rid the country of these two and their armies of lackeys that want to live off everyone else come Nov 2012? I never dreamed America could come to this.

“- Were already letting strangers (TSA) look at our wives and kids naked.”

      I don’t.

“You cannot own a gun without having it registered – remember they collected guns after Katrina”

The hell you can’t. Where do you live, New York/New Jersey/California/Illinois? I’ve never had a gun registered, ever.

I agree with the rest, except maybe the car fixing thing. My motorcycle has been apart and together in my own garage without issue, and I only had a small handfull of parts left over when I reassembled it!

What I don’t buy is the notion that folks will line up for FEMA camps as political prisoners, if any camps ever actually materialize.

      ghost-
if you have ever purchase a firearm from a dealer, you filled out the little yellow form. You are registered. The know you have the gun you bought. If you bought privately and didn’t fill out the little yellow form, you have an illegal firearm that can get you in trouble if caught, since the government still thinks the original owner has the gun. It is sad but true. It is even worse here in Michigan. In addition to background check, if you buy a handgun you have to get a permit from the Sheriff. If you move here from another state and you own a handgun, you have to buy a permit, even though you already own the gun…..Damn Nazi’s are already in control of everything.

The gross hypocricy continues. The “occupy” movement just want their voices to be heard and yet they shout down and ultimately shut down a forum for someone whom they disagree with. Not to mention 2 weeks ago when I, and about 2000 or more other people got shuffled out of the back door at the Air and Space Museum in D.C. when they crashed the front door. Then the spin in the media was that the poor “peaceful” protestors got maced. Such a shame the peaceful demonstrators could not crash the Smithsonian filled to capacity with families and kids in strollers to protest a Predator drone exhibit.

Oh yes why didn’t anyone think of that before. March and chant and then the politicians will have more integrity. All of these robots are part of the left wing democratic party. Stupid buttheads.

      @desert
You make a valid point. But, do you think the protesters would have gotten into a civil debate or do you think they just would have become disruptive when they heard something they didn’t like? How many examples exist of left leaning dissenters throwing eggs, glitter, powder…etc? So there is a safety issue.

I agree that politicians feet should be held to a proverbial fire, but it should be a civil way. The left has time and again shown they can’t engage in civil disagreement. If they can’t shout you down then they pull the race card. If that doesn’t work, then they say you want people to get raped and robbed.

With all that being said, I‘m making assumptions and the reality is I don’t know what would have happened. Nor will we ever know, since Cantor didn’t proceed regardless of the oppositional occupation. I can only guess what the outcome would have been based on what I’ve seen in the past.

@FIREBRAND, I was there in front of the Capitol when the TeaCons were yelling “Nancy, Come out and PLAY-AY” in one of the most menacing tones I ‘ve ever heard from a crowd. There were also waving Gadsden flags and the Three Percent flag and the black and white “Come and Take Them” flag, the one with the assault rifle on it. I was also in Congressional offices that day and I can’t tell you how many staffers told me they feared for my safety because I was walking among the “patriots.” I talked to one staffer for a female Congress member who said they had to form a ring around her and escourt her through a shouting, pushing crowd of TeaCons so she could vote on the House floor. And then there was the man who said he was looking for Congressmen to yell at. Cantor couldn’t pick his audience, so he chose not to show up.

Indeed, the Republicans have become so browbeaten over the years, save for a few who still stand for principles, and integrity, they will flinch at the first scent of anything that may become a scene of discord…which is what the Democrats want to have happen either way.

If you want to start a civil war, or a clash between patriots and commie revolutionaries, bring it on. Until then, don’t call a good man a coward. Cantor is not stupid, and he rightfully refused to become a pawn in the hands of these pigs. This was not the usual annoying group of useful idiots looking to harass an unwanted speaker with chants, eggs, and constant interruptions. These are radicals who want to create an anarchic state in America, being fueled by a left-wing university that refused to bar their intended invasion of the premises. The commie revolutionaries have organized, they have marching orders, and they can and will strike in unpredictable ways.

You say Cantor’s cancellation emboldened them. On the contrary. It frustrated their plan to film what would have been a victorious takeover of the event. They were forced to regroup and come up with a lame “March for Integrity,” much to their chagrin and that of clueless Pauline fools like you. FYI, they have already been emboldened by the commie in the WH and his state-controlled media, and that’s the only driving force they need.

I know what mobs are capable of. Unless you have found yourself surrounded by an organized radical mob in an environment where you cannot respond with lethal force, don’t call another man a coward.
