URBANDALE, Iowa (The Blaze/AP) — Eighteen protesters connected to the nationwide Occupy movement were arrested Saturday outside the presidential campaign headquarters of Republicans Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.
Local police in suburban Des Moines, Iowa, say the 16 adults and two juveniles were arrested for trespass, a simple misdemeanor. Most were released later Saturday. It’s the latest wave of Occupy arrests in Iowa, following arrests outside the headquarters of Mitt Romney and Ron Paul last week.
On Saturday, dozens of demonstrators massed outside the office where Bachmann had come to rally staff and make calls to potential caucus-goers. Campaign security told the protesters not to approach the office.
Urbandale police Lt. Kent Knopf said the 10 Occupy demonstrators were arrested, handcuffed and taken away in squad cars from Bachmann’s office after they ignored security, who called police.
Bachmann did not come outside of the building, but she laughed off the disruption. “The people who are outside are the president’s re-election advance team,” she told reporters and others inside the office.
Outside, protesters chanted, “Arrest Wall Street, not main street!“ and carried signs bearing familiar ”99 percent” themes. One read “The Sheeple are Asleeple.”

One young demonstrator, a 16-year-old high school student who was among those arrested in front of Bachmann’s office, said she wished the candidate had come out and heard her concerns about the cost of higher education, the war in Afghanistan and the national debt.
The protesters moved on to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign office, where no arrests were reported, and then on to Gingrich’s office, where five more arrests were made. The demonstration shifted to Santorum’s office, where three more were arrested.
Hundreds of Occupy activists from at least 10 states were expected to participate in a “People’s Caucus” in Des Moines as the Jan. 3 caucuses near. The activists are promising to interrupt candidates at events and camp out at their Iowa campaign offices.

All of the MSM stated there were only 10-20 thousand people at this event, and these people left the park cleaner than when they came. No bulldozers needed to clean up; nope just a truck to throw the bags in. No overtime for the DC garbage crews…. Although I am sure Glenn Beck’s company paid in advance for such cleanup.

and as to the cost the communities incur, that is relative to the treatment of those exercising their first amendment rights of protest. In areas which the local governance has embraced the freedom of expression, minimal costs have been incurred whether that be clean up or security. In other areas that have reacted in such a ways to mimic a police state, those have been the most to incur the costs, mostly from heightened security and staffing.

BTW, apart from the “obvious” that OWS is funded by groups who are against these GOP candidates, and want to take them down and support socalist ones, I’m also assuming that “outwardly” this is about (protesting the GOP candidates) their supposed “support” of “Wall Street greed,” as opposed to the DMC, which is now sort of co-opted by socialist, led King Barack, princess Nancy, & prince Harry (not the one from England, but an an old, fuddy duddy one.) So, OWS isn’t protesting Washington because these people are there! (Wouldn’t want to offend them, right, fellow socialists?) So, they need to go to a “place” where the most “GOP” would gather. Right now? Iowa! Perfect! Those people who supposedly are best friends with the wealthy and greedy richest 1%! Of course, if any of these people actually looked into the facts, they’d see Obama & Dems are more “in bed” with Wall Street corruption than the GOP. Dems want government to get in bed with greed, GOP wants government to stay out all together, not touching it, or influencing it, except if it breaks the law like anyone else, poor or rich.

Posted on January 1, 2012 at 10:01amSeems like an appropriate location for their phony Big Lie protests. ( am sure our atheist , Lefty Trolls will be writing pointed barbs at all of the nasty Christian Tea Party types who write here ! ) They are so into alinski method and “school ” of political drama: hold your opponents up to their own standards ( which NEVER hinder you because you don’t have any moral code other than “winning !” ) ) and criticize them for their short comings! Saul Alinsky : director par excellence speaking from hell where he is probably conversing with his old mentor – the first Real Radical Satan …

Posted on January 1, 2012 at 9:26amUnfortunately the “99%” that they speak of DO NOT agree with their communist/big giverment agenda. We need to get back to Constitutional America and away from worshipping government and expecting it to take care of us.
Government is a schizophrenic nanny. On the one hand, she acts as if she loves us and wants to help us while she secretly steals the money out of our piggy bank and steals the toys from under our bed to sell at yard sales.
Government is not your friend. At this level it is nothing but violence and corruption. The Occupy Movement are pretty much just what Michelle Bachmann said, but there is more. While they are aligned with Obama and his evil agenda, they are also deluded. They think the Obama administration will ally with them against wall street. Big government and the wall street banksters are one and the same. The only thing these people occupy is a disease known as “political retardation”. Wake up “occupiers”, you look stupid and you don‘t know what you’re doing.
