A protester, who declined to give his name, is escorted out of News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch's keynote address at the National Summit on Education Reform on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, in San Francisco. The conference is organized by the Foundation for Excellence in Education, chaired by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, which champions school vouchers, charter schools and performance pay for teachers. Six demonstrators, several dressed as Sesame Street characters, heckled Murdoch before bing removed. (AP Photo/Noah Berger)
Activists from the Occupy Wall Street movement repeatedly interrupted Rupert Murdoch as he gave a keynote speech at a downtown San Francisco hotel where he addressed forum attendees on how technology could help transform the nation’s public education system.
“Equality in education, not privatisation!” one woman, dressed as Elmo from the the popular children’s television programme Sesame Street shouted as security guards escorted her out of the ballroom of the Palace Hotel, which hosted the National Summit on Education Reform.
“Corporations own all the media in the world. Why should they not own all the education as well?” activist Joe Hill yelled sarcastically, while dressed as the Count.
Mr Murdoch appeared unfazed by the commotion. ‘It’s OK, a little controversy makes everything more interesting,’ he said to audience applause before continuing his half-hour speech.

About half a dozen hecklers were escorted out of the hotel after they disrupted Mr Murdoch’s speech, but said they were not arrested.

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 1:48pmIt is no longer an education system. It is now an indoctrination system. All due to the DIP WADS of the 70′s (Hillary’s village people) having been in power since then. They have bastardized every facet of our system to their advantage while the silent majority remained silent. Today it is like a Jack-In-The-Box. You turn the corner and SURPRISE!!!

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 2:05pm@dane – you are correct. But, they did it under the radar. We TRUSTINGLY sent our children off to schools TO BE EDUCATED. WE DID NOT KNOW they were being INDOCTRINATED… until it was too late. An entire generation has been ‘lost’ to this sham in the disguise of peace and love, when it is, in reality, hatred and violence – evil. Parents have no means of researching the college courses, which is why many parents choose to send their children to faith-based schools and universities. At least there is some CLAIM to being honest and righteous at these schools, unlike “public” schools, which are open to public attendance, but, are anything BUT open to a public curriculum ! That is held very close to their vest, and WAS shadowed in the classroom. Even that pretense is now gone, though. Today, they are right in our faces, telling us what they think, feel, believe… and now DEMAND !

Excellent post sir! You’re DEAD ON!
My question, after reading the article is…,WHY WEREN’T THESE
JERKS(with off) ARRESTED?! They have no courage. They’re too stupid for that.
Scare the bejesus out of them! Cuff them! Haul them off to jail. Make them post bail and have to show up in court for their idiocy! Hit them in their anti-capitalist wallets.
That is a guarantee that the “Protesting Thousands” will be narrowed down to the Union Thugs and Professional Anarchists.
We are in deep doo doo and Dudley DoRight is directing Law Enforcement, to include Gov. “Moonbeam” Brown and Gov “Himself the Elf” Bloomberg!
It is Tres tragique that a guy dressed as Ben Franklin, protesting trillions in unsutainable debt is vilified as a “Racist *********”, and these monsters are embraced as “Grassroots Americans”.
Obviously another post from Wonderland. Down is up. Up is down. We’re painting the rose red.

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 4:48pmThe only educational system that is successful is a meritocratic one. The liberals have insisted for decades that if “little Johnny” can’t read at a certain level no one else should either, lest Johnny’s feelings are hurt. Until and unless promotions are based on academic achievement alone, schools will continue to graduate kids that are unqualified and unprepared for life outside the classroom. Many kids would be more suited to educations that prepare them for a trade and that should be made available at the high school level. A skilled tradesman is worth there weight in gold. The key is that excellence has been demeaned as a goal is the name of equality. And excellence in a chosen field always ensures employment.

Posted on October 16, 2011 at 12:43amI know this sounds crazy, but, what if we did away with no child left behind? Think about this. What if we told the parents and the children this. Here’s the scoop. Our taxpayers have authorized our Government to OFFER you the opportunity for a great education. You may CHOOSE to accept it or not. If you don’t do your homework and fail, well, then you fail and you will need to fend for yourself in the real world without a proper education. On the other hand, IF you truly dedicate yourself to completing your homework and making an effort, the tax payers will authorize our government to make extroadinary efforts to keep educating you to the best of your ability as well as the teachers. The children who achieve the most will reap the reward for their achievement. Your achievement for actually completing high school will be beneficial in the job market because employers will recognize you are at least a competant, hard working individual. As for all the others, they can move into mommies basement and go to work for media matters…..

They all glomed onto it like its a religion and if they go against it their cooked. Same will eventually happen here. They turn public opinion around so that if your against it then your a nutbag that can be disregarded. Posted on October 16, 2011 at 1:01am@Miami. Disagree. Students who choose not do do their homework or pay attention in class are un-teachable. Teachers can’t get through that. They can “try” to get the student interested. Secular society and the ease of hand me outs from the government as well as the “everything I need to survive is a right” mentality supposed to be supplied by the government is the problem. I despise the teachers unions. Most I know in the profession do as well, but, are too scared to admit it publically. If they had their way, the good ones would repeal “no child left behind” and allow students to either succeed or fail based on their own merit. They would be there to prop the ones up who are trying certainly. But, the ones who show up, pop open a soda and a bag of chips and turn their desks away from the teacher and carry on a conversation ignoring the instruction…..let them fail and deal with it.
