Occupy Supporter Demands ‘We Support Our Troops’ Sign Be Taken Down From MN Building

An Occupy supporter in Little Falls, Minnesota, is demanding that a “We Support Our Troops” sign be removed from a building in her hometown. The woman, named Robin Hensel, is taking this combative action after city officials told her she needed to remove an excessive number of signs and posters that were once present in her frontyard.

According to officials, residents are only legally allowed to display one sign on their property — a city code that Hansel takes particular issue with. So, in response to the city’s code enforcement, she has set her sights on the pro-troop sign, which she says also violates local code.

In an interview with KSTP-TV, Hensel said that her original posters were merely “promoting ideas that promote peace and justice” and she lamented the city’s crackdown on them. The posters took particular aim at the U.S. government and the War on Terror.

“If good people that are passionate about their causes don’t find a platform to be able to speak out freely in a peaceful kind of way — we’re in trouble,” she said.

Once she was forced to remove her signs, she found other ways to display her messaging. Rather than posting signs in her front yard, she has now posted them all over her van, on the windows of her home and she has erected a ladder with the one permitted sign she can have on her front yard. It reads, in part, “Occupy the Dream.”

Of the town’s “Support Our Troops” sign, she says that city code requires both a permit and approval from the city’s historic preservation committee. Hensel says that the banner has neither and, thus, it should be taken down. But her issue with the mural transcends the mere code violations.

“The sign suggests that some of us don’t support our troops,” she says. “The truth is — we all do — through taxation.”

Others, though, disagree with her stance.

“It’s patriotic for our country,” one local man says. “We should have it up.”

City officials plan to take up Hansel’s complaints about the banner at the next city council meeting on Feb. 6. On Martin Luther King Day, Hansel organized and took part in a local “Occupy the Dream” event, as she has continued to support the anti-Wall Street movement that took form last September.

    She really likes her signs,they’re all over her property and her POS van.She‘s exercising her first amendment right to say idiotic stuff and what’s with the down with greed sign WTF is that? She has no sense at all and she obviously doesn’t know that greed is good for business,do we want a bunch of pansies running businesses? No we want hard chargers who know how to run a business and provide goods and services that people want.

      First off, How is she including herself in someone’s “we”…When I say “we are going to the store”, that means my collective, I have never included her..For her to conclude that everyone is paying for the troops, is out right false…Not everyone is paying taxes, soooo…That throws that out to…Greed is not the issue, criminal activity is killing America, not greed…A honest businessman is being lumped into the greedy crook category…I love how after they elect another greedy crooked politician they blame the honest businessmen for their problems..I guess there is a bunch of people out there that don’t realize attacks on rich people will take their money out of the equation…We keep taxing the rich, and making them feel unwelcome here.I want all rich people to live and work here..Why is it that Toyota can find it cost efficient to use more American suppliers to make trucks here, and our motor divisions need to out source? I bet it’s in taxing and trade agreements…You want more business and jobs here?…Stop taxing American business out of America..Life isn’t fair or equal, and never will be.       This won’t go anywhere. The law is one sign per property, which the company is abiding by. Minneapolis may be one of the most liberal cities in the US, but many Minnesotans outside of the metro area are conservative and Little Falls is no exception.

      Another example of Americans not being able to support anything because many do not stand for anything. . even the OWS crowd cannot agree upon what they believe. When our all volunteer force cannot replace itself with fresh troops because they simply cannot find good people willing to step up and support this country, its policies, its gay agenda, its police the world mentality with slogans that say “A Force for Good” which implies your mission is to go around saving people but ignoring evil that was the cause of their situation in the first place…thats not a Force for Good, its a force for show.

      What I love is that she thinks that the sign that says “We Support Our Troops” suggests others don’t. Where is that written? Sounds more like here own conscience is ******* with her. I think Freud would have asked why she felt that way… The answer is obvious. She doesn’t support the troops and feels bad about the fact that they are dying on her behalf and her rights, so she doesn’t support the war.

      In her way, she feels that she supports them, but knows the sign is in support of the troops and their mission (or feels that is what it means – especially seeing that is contains red white and blue OE showing patriotism which she lacks). Thus she must attack the thing that makes her feel less of a person by making her look in the mirror.

      Just a thought.

    It is so silly and nonsensical. If the Cancer Society also puts a banner up and says We Support Breast Awareness and OWSers are going to demand that be removed as it suggests that some people do not? If a restaurant puts up a sign saying we support a pure vegetarian diet are the OWSers going to demand that be taking down as it is not representing or implying that non vegetarians do not? Robn Hensel this is laughable, you have got to be kidding? How can you take that stance with a straight face?

    To our peril, I am afraid the answer is NO.
    MSM, Liberal sites, Progressive sites, obscure Social/culture sites, all casually mention in passing that the OWS does exist. As to commentary, opines, etc. very seldom.
    The DEDICATED sites supporting OWS are full of event schedules, donation requests, links and genearly motivational blather.
    OWS in Chicago, in May, in the early summer of the 2012 election year… garantees a dedicated MSM event flurry that will obscure the entire month of May and well into June.

    Thats what happens when you feed a stray animal.The animal keeps comming back but dosn’t contribute.I say stop feeding these OWS and they will leave.You have the right to refuse service.But I’ll bet the big unions are also paying off these venders and taking money for services rendered.If they go to your local grocery store dont let them in.If they want to protest fine no overnight sleeping no cooking and the permits to assemble must be obtained.Because their not assembling in peace they are a mob and mobs don’t assemble they destroy.

She said her argument does not mean that she does not support our troops but expressly is with the city government. Duh! This is how the tea party began at least where I live.     Her sign says “down with greed”. Yes, I agree that those greedy to want what others earned should be put down.
    I do not understand the envy culture. I have had wealthy friends and never wanted what they had as I was happy with what I had and didn’t want their aggravations or their bigger homes with more work. I think instead of preaching for others to achieve to acquire we should be preaching for them to find what matters in life. I had the church and family upbringing which allowed my views on material things to be less important in my life than relationships. I think the destruction of the family and religion have brought us to this place where the view of the world is about success through monetary achievements rather than relationship achievements. Both take some effort and are not always easy. You hear the pundits saying the 995 want what the 1% have or want to achieve or hope to achieve it either through capitalism staying or them occupying and taking it. The truth is neither should be the objective. Real happiness and joy is not in that end result. It is in the journey and the love ……whether it is love of the work that got you there or love of the relationships that enrich one’s life. It may sound preachy but I believe it is true. When we all get old and are close to death we can look back and see what goals mattered or what paths were worth the effort. The idea of envy is repulsive to me.

    I really dislike how all my life i see Libral, left commie style groups, black groups, unions, ect., always DEMAND stuff, and most often it is demanding that other people do stuff for librals, maybe because they can not build or do stuff on their own. Some things other that this which come to mind,
    They demanded that some fast food burger places get veggi burgers added even though few people want them, why do they not get their own veggie burger chain going. The demand that people get jobs in certain places just because the colour of their skin, not because they earned the job, which is the real racist thing to do. And many more things i sure we all can think of, when i hear the word DEMAND i know it is a leftist and i know their cause is WRONG! DEMANDING is not EARNING.
