Occupy Turning on Obama Over Exclusive Hollywood Dinner

Glenn Beck is fond of saying that the difference between progressivism and communism is “evolution vs revolution,” in that progressives want to make society gradually evolve to a communist state, whereas communists want to overthrow the state and replace it with a communist one. The assumption that the two are mutually reinforcing has, to this point, seemed foregone.

But some Leftists – especially in the Occupy movement – may have become impatient with the slow, gradual process implied by evolution. As a result, in an event that will strike some observers as deeply ironic, the first target the Occupy movement will be going after following their protest of CPAC is none other than Barack Obama himself. NBC Los Angeles has the details:

Occupy 90210 protesters will gather more than a mile from the home of a daytime drama TV show producer’s mansion Wednesday night when President Barack Obama visits the home for a $35,800-per-ticket fundraising dinner.

The group will gather at Will Rogers Memorial Park — which is indeed in the Beverly Hills 90210 ZIP code — to protest what they call the “corrupting role that Big Money plays in politics.”[...]

“While Obama dines at a $35,800 a plate fundraiser in the home of a 1% TV producer, we will be one and a half miles away occupying Will Rogers Memorial Park,” according to the Occupy 90210 Facebook page.

This development is sure to worry progressives, but it may also get the Occupy movement a few points for consistency among their conservative detractors. The lack of outrage on the part of progressive organizations about the excesses enjoyed by the Obama White House has been frequently cited by conservative journalists as proof that progressives really don’t care about income inequality, so long as the rich are on their side. This quote from the above NBC story by Occupy Los Angeles organizer Lauren Steiner seems to suggest otherwise:

“Our feeling is there is such a corrupting influence of money and  politics and basically it’s the foundational issue from which all of our  problems result,” Lauren Steiner, one of the organizers of the protest and  rally, told City News Service. “We have to take money out of politics.”

Steiner has written on the subject of what she would prefer to our current political system before. In a blog post at LA Progressive, she describes an event at Occupy Atlanta:

[The protestors] talked about how they were going to explain the process to the mayor [of Atlanta] with everyone taking part in the explanation, so that it would be a communal experience.  Someone started making a list of what they were going to say.

“Number one, say why we are here.”

“Why are we here?” asked someone to some laughter.

“Number two, we demand that the mayor make a commitment to not bringing the police on us.”

“Number three, recognize this park as ‘Troy Davis Park.’”

“Number four, invite him to spend the night.”

Needless to say, Barack Obama is unlikely to spend the night with Occupy Los Angeles.

    The OWSers remind me of my scouting days when the newbies were sent out “snipe hunting.” (Nowadays this would probably be considered hazing) They were all excited, had no clue as to what they were doing, and never knowing the whole time that the joke was on them.

      Exactly. The Movement was created by Obama and his puppet masters, and now Axelrod just feeds the misinformation to one of his front group contacts within the organization and presto the drones are now protesting Obama. The brainchildren of Occupy all went to Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. The smoke and mirrors = lies and deception. So transparent, and the truth is stranger than fiction.

      You’ve got it right. These OWS people are such losers that no one will ever hire them. I would suggest they should get their act together, get clean and get a job doing anything they can. But they don’t want to start from the bottom. They are entitled starting from their lame parents who gave them the right to treat people any way they wanted. Maybe they were abandoned while mom and dad worked. Maybe because mom and dad felt guilty and gave them everything, that made them entitled. Now they expect the government to do the same thing. (to make up for the sorry life) It will take a tough role model to snap them in to reality. If they are caught doing crime at their protest, they should never get any entitlements ever. Tough love!

    I not here to pick a fight. I’m just an older citizen talking with my fellow citizens.

    I remember when political parties could work through their differences and come up
    with a compromise. Now we pay them big money to fight and accomplish nothing for us.

    It seems to me if billionaires and big business gives millions to our politicians they are just looking for favors. While we, Republicans and Democrats blame each other, the rich bought our government. I feel like my government doesn’t representing me anymore.

    They get tax loopholes while my paycheck has shrunk over the years due to tax deductions.

    Deregulation left Walls Street and banks to police themselves. Look what they have done!!! No one was audited, charged, jailed or held accountable for the looting of trillions from America. Due to their fraud millions of Americans have lost their jobs and homes.

    I won’t be able to retire if politicians take way Social Security and Medicare.

    I think I have a right to be angry about the greed and corruption of our financial institutions and our government.

    The Constitution gives me the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

    I write my representatives and I also protest against this unjust system. Our country was started with citizens protesting and throughout our history it has brought about our greatest changes.

    What have you done??? Then please don’t belittle fellow citizens that dare to question their government.

      Thanks for your post LIVEFREEOHIO! I agree with you. We need to fix the system and rehaul it totally. I think the best way is to shrink government. It is too big and powerful. We need a balance budget amendment. Alot of what is going on in politics is showbiz with Obama being the star…..but everyone is bit players. They could save medicare and social security funds should not be raided. Obamacare is taking coverage from seniors and giving it to medicaid recipients, completely redistributing the monies from the elderly to the poor or the lazy. I believe we should protect all seniors because in the end we will all become seniors and it is a matter of honoring thy father and mother. The waste in government with paying off companies like Solyndra, and groups that contribute money receiving perks needs to stop. The occupy people are not all individuals with a grievance but alot are paid and influenced by big groups like unions. (remember the homeless guy paid $60 to stand with the occupy people and didn’t even know what he was there protesting?)
      It is a mess but the only way to fix it is to get the right people in and force things like a balanced budget amendment and no earmarks inside the bills. Yes, I have written to senators and congressmen through their government email but it is obvious to me from the answers that some of them have no clue what they are even voting for……..because they are voting party only. We cannot give up.

      No matter what side on the “aisle” you’re on, our problem is government not business…Solution to Problem 1. Cap how much can be spent on election campaign (then we’d know if they could balance a budget) 2. Cut retirement and heathcare benefits for all elected officials (if they can’t get re-elected they shouldn’t get a lifetime pension) 3. Hold elections for Justices 4. Make educated decisions don‘t vote based on the letter next to someone’s name

    Do not forget that on top of the $ 35,800 per plate comes the Air force 1 (and 2 as a back up), the C130 with the 24 SUV’s, the squadron of security personnel, the disruption of traffic and so on and so on! Just for the “king”, and what about the people that attended ? Do they just ride a bike to get in? And this is after Maxine called the republicans demons???     I’m struck by how many things are going south at the same time all over the world! Most people do not put it all into context and miss the big picture. As I read all the news and ponder on the future I get chills up my spine!
    The way things are going we are all going to be effected by the total insanity that is sweeping the countries one at a time.

    Hey, I think the Flea-baggers got it right for once. The cost of one plate at Obama‘s dinner is worth more than what many American’s make in a year. It‘s too bad that Obama doesn’t have the record to run on over the past 3.5 years then he wouldn’t need so much money for campaigning. Obama and his rich friends could have donated that money to a charity or given that money to the fed to pay down some of that debt that they generated during their special interest spending sprees.

      JHAYDENG, Well, the misguided Owies still are not satisfied. Imagine that. How much is real and how much is planned. Will we ever know for sure. I understand that some of the OWS are shying away from the violence and disgusting behavior associated with the oringinal OWS. They have to inorder to make the Dems who supported them look good. It is all a game and all play into some sort of plot . Will the remaining OWS suddenly come to our side and do we want them? Will they claim to be connected to the Tea Party now to further discredit the Tea Party movement? The whole OWS movement was developed by the progressives to begin with . I would say there is a reason for everything that they do.
