‘Occupy’ US Senate: Warren Continues Wall St. Attack on Campaign Trail

Whether you call it consumer advocacy or Wall Street demonization, Massachusetts U.S. Senate Candidate Elizabeth Warren has come to embody the frustration felt by protesters outside financial sector hubs in cities across America. Warren was the orchestrator of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and is now challenging one-time bay state populist icon Scott Brown for Ted Kennedy’s old Senate seat. At a Democratic primary debate last week, Warren did not hold back when asked about her position on the “Occupy Wall Street” protest:
“The people on Wall Street broke this country, and they did it one lousy mortgage at a time. It happened more than three years ago, and there has been no real accountability, and there has been no real effort to fix it. That’s why I want to run for the United States Senate.”
The Boston Globe writes that all of the candidates at the Lowell debate expressed support for the controversial protesters who are part of the “Occupy Boston” movement in downtown Boston.
“They also backed medical marijuana use, money for Planned Parenthood, abortion rights, and the rights of the children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at public universities.”
Warren has declined fellow Democratic primary candidate Alan Khazei’s request to reject PAC Money.

Posted on October 9, 2011 at 9:34pmDetroit paperboy, would you care to elaborate on your belief that the government under President Bush “MANDATED” banks to make risky loans? Seriously, can you bring some facts to bear on the idea that banks have been forced to make “risky loans?” I think that’s false.
I think that the housing market increased for decades and that banks were happy to make risky loans, based on the assumption that the selling price of any given house would only rise. They would make the loan and if the owner defaulted, they would immediatly get the equity on the house and sell it above the price of the house when it was bought. That’s a nice scheme when home prices are rising. But when the housing market collapses, not so much.
Sorry, nobody “mandated” that banks make decisions based on their faith that the value of houses would only increase, and given that assumption, that any house sold to anyone, whether they could afford it or not, would be profitable. But the housing market collapsed, and the banks would have failed had the US not bailed them out.
But people are upset that banks and Wall Street are making record profits while the rest of the country is suffering.

Report Post »You obviously have no clue how banks make money….They make money on the interest they charge you to loan you money and the investments they make with your money. They are not in the business of selling houses. Everyone seems to forget that it is the MORTGAGE companies that people deal with when purchasing a home, not the BANK. The Mortgage companies would “play with the numbers” to make you look better to the banks. It was the Barney frank’s and chris dodds that forced the banks to lower the requirements for a home loan, because “poor people deserve to own a home”. No banker would ever make a loan knowing they won’t get paid. Maybe you should spend some time doing a little research, oh wait….I forgot, you don’t want the truth, can’t let something like the facts get in the way now can we?
This crisis was created by the whiney liberals and democraps who think everyone has a right to own a house, whether they can pay for it or not, that everyone has a right to a job, whether qualified or not, and on and on….I’m sick of this stupidity, we need to go back to the time of personal responsibility, for earning what you have and not have it taken from us and given to lazy do nothings. Also, I believe it was the Affordable Housing Act signed by Jimmy Carter, amended by Clinton and one of the Bush’s that forced banks to loan to minorities whether they could truly afford them or not. Quota is what I think you call it!
Report Post »The repeal of the Glass-Stegall Act gave banks a way to meet the “quotas” by bundling the mortgages and sell them off as investments. If the banks, had not been forced to make the high risk loans they would never have needed to bundle them. As one other poster already mentioned, the banks do not need nor want real estate. They can’t reinvest/lend hard assets. They have to pay others to maintain and broker the sale of the property.
It’s easier to blame “big xyz” than it is to look this stuff up for yourself. Unfortunately the Progs haven’t got the memo that everything they say is recorded and available to the least of us. In the past the media set the narrative and controlled the access to sound bytes. Not any more!

Posted on October 10, 2011 at 2:06amClinton signed it after Barney backed it after low income folks on the street claimed they were being discriminated against by not being able to buy houses. The result was easy to buy houses that should never have been sold to folks that can’t pay. Good intentions of the law resulted with a bad outcome. Housing prices soared to a bubble till the collapse. In hindsight it was OBVIOUS it was going to happen.
Here’s what coming next.:
People on the street are claiming big business is the problem for one reason or another. Some “Barney Frank/Pelosi/EWarren” is going to propose legislation to control big business in one way or another. Obama is going to sign it. And in a few years you are going to see big business come up with new practices that will counteract the law by imposing new fees, requirements, demands etc. upon the workers and applicants that will hurt MORE American workers.
Once again it will be the people on the streets creating their own demise later down the road by getting Government to enact more laws that WILL BACKFIRE…
One thing for sure, when you TAKE PROFITS from private / public companies, they WILL eventually find a way to get those profits back. Either in the form of higher prices to consumers or lower wages and higher standards for the employees. That’s the BEAUTY of FREE ENTERPRISE.
And as always: More government legislation on businesses will cause an eventual collapse.
Every lawsuit creates a law.

Suggest you do A LOT of serious reading about contemporary history.
There is NO way to explain it to you in under 1500 characters.
Read the links given to you by other posters and learn something for once in your life.
Like his father, GW Bush is a globalist, but he never came out and said it.
As soon as a Democrat Senate and House were behind him, things became clear.
Barney Frank and Chris Dodd jumped at the chance to regulate the banks.
This all resorts back to communist Jimmy Carter’s 1977 Community Reinvestment Act.
The law was created claiming cities were deteriorating.
It didn’t matter if the cities were crumbling under high taxes, it was touted as a crises and the socialists jumped on it.
The CRA was cloaked with the premise of civil rights as spelled out in the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The US Commission on Civil Rights published a report exemplifying that blacks were being discriminated against by banks who used ‘questionable’ economic practices when making loans.
Barney Frank and Chris Dodd didn’t give a damn about the bank’s sound economic practices, they only cared about expanding the federal government.
Both federal securities became the insurers for most of the forced loans and the game was set to collapse the banking system.
GW Bush warned, several times, that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were in trouble.

Posted on October 9, 2011 at 8:05pmI was a real estate broker for 13 years. I cannot believe the gall of the politicians who point the finger at the banks for the real estate crisis. The push to provide loans to people with no money and marginal credit worthiness came from the top down, as in Frank and Dodd.
They also blackmailed numerous banks into problematic loan programs. I remember when the real estate boom first started, I saw a 107 LTV program. Essentially, you put no money down, paid no closing costs, and actually walked away from the purchase with money in your pocket. However, it was only for a ‘special demographic area’. I asked the loan officer why they had such an unbelievable loan program. He said the government had accused the bank of redlining, which the bank vehemently denied. However, the government said it would take away the bank‘s license to do business in the state unless they agreed to provide the ’special‘ loan program for ’special’ people.
I personally know people from several other banks that were similarly ‘strong-armed’ into risky loan programs by the government; threats to sue, to revoke licenses, or to refuse to renew licenses once they expired. When it all came crashing down, as simple mathematical probability assured it would, it was somehow the banking industry’s fault. Don’t get me wrong, the over-leveraging of AIG with credit swaps was incredibly stupid. But all that ‘bad debt’ would have never existed without the politicians.

They are products of a Liberal Education System!

Report Post »You said it. Fannie and Freddie did this, a government program to give those that could not ever afford a home payment a home to pay for full well knowing that one day they would default. Then on top of that, the government forced banks into the same hole telling them they would give these risky mortgages or face the consequences. Yet they want to blame it on wall st because that is where people that have either a little money to invest or a lot of money to invest in his or her own future go to by and sell stock. They don’t want the average AMERICAN to be able to do that, they want us all addicted to the government tit.

Posted on October 9, 2011 at 7:48pmIs it something in the water there in Massachusetts that gets these socialist communests elected time and time again. It‘s to the point that it’s just a given. Though they did elect Rino Brown that was a fluke. Is there any real conservatives in that state?

Posted on October 9, 2011 at 7:44pmI agree. Franklin Raines currently is helping make economics policies for this Administration. Of course he’s also closely working with communist punk Van Jones through “Enterprise Community” and the GREEN movement that does nothing but scam the public into having to pay carbon taxes. They tie it back together at the Council On Foreign Relations…….and the United Nations.
