A woman at the Occupy Vancouver camp died Saturday after being found in an “unresponsive” condition, police said. A Canadian protest organizer said it appeared to be the result of a drug overdose.
The cause of death has not been determined but there is no evidence of foul play, police said. Her death is likely the first to hit the Occupy movement.
In response to the woman’s death, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson said he was ordering the protesters to be cleared out of the park, according to Canada’s CBC News.
“I have directed the city manager to expedite the appropriate steps to end the encampment as soon as possible with a safe resolution being absolutely critical to that,” Robertson said.
The woman in her 20s was found in a tent by another protester. Paramedics took her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, Vancouver police said in a statement.
Lauren Gill, an organizer at the camp, said the woman apparently died of a drug overdose.
She said the death highlights the need for more addiction services because drugs are such a big issue in the city.
Gill, who is running as an independent in this month’s city elections, said that as an outreach worker in mental health and addiction services, she has seen far too many overdose deaths.

Protesters held a candlelight vigil for the woman, identified only as Ashely. Their signs said, "We are all Ashley." (Photo credit: Vancouver Observer)
Protesters held a candlelight vigil for the woman Saturday night, holding signs that said, “We are all Ashley” — the only identifying information that was released, the Vancouver Observer reported.
Gil described her as “a bright, energetic, beautiful, kind, passionate, artistic youth” and said she’d known her for several years.
Tensions seem to be growing at the site Saturday, where one television camera operator was knocked to the ground and some protesters began hassling reporters.
Fire Chief John McKearney ordered protesters to remove large tarps and take down tents after emergency personnel had difficulty getting accessing the site Thursday to help someone who suffered a non-fatal drug overdose.
The protesters initially rejected McKearney’s concerns about safety, but removed some tarps.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I wrote to him explaining that I support and like Cain because of what he has accomplished in his life through idea’s of and about “empowerment”. That is, being independent and dependent on society, something that is just not an idea, but a way of life for me as a recovering addict. You see, this artist girl may never have found sobriety if she refused to let go of certain ideas about life. Those which would have lead her to be accountable and responsible for herself. I am not simplifying addiction, as it is a tragedy and terrible disease of the spirit, body and mind that destroys love and families everywhere. What I am saying, is I can’t afford to think like a liberal and must support myself independently, or I most certainly will go the way of this young girl. I don’t want to hear the BS about there not being enough rehabs or services for addiction, AA and NA are free and they work. They have been around long before rehabs came into existence. While rehabs do help to deliver people into these programs, often times, government interference lends itself to enabling addicts and not allowing them to hit bottom, only deepening behavi

Posted on November 6, 2011 at 10:17amThis young girls death at Occupy Vancouver is a tragedy and it was preventable. The real story here is that another Occupy protestor nearly died of a drug overdose last week and the fire department ordered a cleanup and removal of the tents and tarp structures and deemed the camp “dangerous”. The Occupy “collective” refused to do anything and an individual has died from their decision to ignore the fire department. so, this is where it gets more interesting, Gregor Robertson, the Vancouver Mayor was a director at Tides (Canada) and has been heavily involved with Tides and their affiliated groups, Joel Solomon, Drummond Pike and the Endswell Foundation.
When Occupy Vancouver started Mayer Robertson basically stayed out of it but an opponent in an upcoming election demanded the camps removal. So Robertson faced with an election had to play neutral and now a death in the camp has forced him to finally demand the removal of the camp.
This mayors inaction and the Occupy “collective” share responsibility for this girls death. They were warned by the Fire Department of the dangers and ignored it.

Posted on November 6, 2011 at 10:46amThanks Sue ! Those are amazing details you brought us. Just imagine if Glenn hadn’t come to be, we would never have any idea about who Tides foundation was. As we do know, this is Soros behind the Tides funding. Unfortunately, he is used to killing 10,000‘s and doesn’t find his playing with people lives as “fun” until he does so. Somebody should sue the Mayor in order to place accountability on him. Even if they know they won’t win, the media coverage alone will certainly tarnish their record and ruin chances of re-election. I would be willing to donate fund to such a case, one that would hold the real criminals fee to the fire. The irony of all this is, these socialist believe they know what is best for us and that we aren’t capable of making our own decisions. Yet, when it comes to the case where a large amount of misfits, druggies, homeless, and smelly hippies decide to build an encampment in the city, we heat nothing but support for their right to think freely and un-restrictively. If Tea PArty started to do stuff like this, which they never would, but if they did, these law makers would create and pass new made up laws to remove us so fast, our head;s would spin. I have truley come to despise the intellect. To the point, it is nearly becoming hate.

I think it would have to be stopped by the Democrat mayors because the OWS seem to be mostly in the major Democrat cities, so I can’t think of any graceful exit from this for Democrats. Your comment just gave me a good idea:
1.) Fabricate some indestructible, rugged steel speaker enclosures with heavy duty speaker grills. Make them large.
2.) Provide thousands of watts of amplification, built in. Completely self contained, and wireless.
3.) Sink heavy anchors into concrete, surrounding these “occupy” camps.
4.) Bolt speaker enclosures to concrete.
5.) Blast, and I mean BLAST, easy – listening music 24/7. Y’know, Barry Manilow, Lionel Ritchie, maybe some good classical music. Give these dopes a little culture.
This would help drown out the incessant drum crap, and FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE. I‘m sure the neighbors would rather hear that than these doofuses poppin’ off all day and night.
