NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say about 700 protesters have been arrested after they swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge and shut down a lane of traffic for several hours.

Police say some demonstrators spilled onto the roadway Saturday night after being told to stay on the pedestrian pathway. They face charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The lane has since reopened.

Occupy Wall Street demonstrators are railing against corporate greed, global warming and social inequality, among other grievances.

The group has been camped near the Financial District for two weeks and clashed with police on earlier occasions.

Earlier Saturday, two other marches went over the bridge without problems. One was from Brooklyn to Manhattan by a group opposed to genetically modified food. Another in the opposite direction marched against poverty.

The reason Al Jazeera is all jazzed up about this protest is the fact that every one of the loons on that bridge think life should be headed backwards in time just like fundamental islam does. The hilarity of the dichotomy is that the fundamental islamists would chop every single head off every single one of these lazy unkempt protesters for not cow towing and braying and praying to Allah every 4 hours….and thes protestors would be too fog bound from the blunts they smoked to realize it before it’s too late. Oh how Al jazeera loves to take pictures of people on bridged…remember the barbequed human beings hung from that one bridge over in Iraq? Freaking savages every one of them. And again…I will say it again…I for one am tired of Islam in this case Al Jazeera sticking it’s nose into what is obviously a United States issue….Islam is worming it’s way into the news cycles every single 15 minute period….and frankly it is annoying me. At least with George Bush post 9-11 the “news making” was done “over there” and not here. Ever since Obama was elected there has been nothing but “Islam creep” into our own country’s news and on our soil.” It’s not hard to figure out.

Your comment is right on the mark! I’m afraid this is what our colleges and universities pass off as an educated individual today. If these pampered idiots are students that attend universities in NY city their foolish parents are wasting $50k to $60k per year to subsidize this demonstration of stupidity.

These idiots refuse to recognize they are getting scammed by the University’s. Tuition is up 500% and can’t possibly guarantee work to all them. Instead, these idiots by into the whole knowledge account that they will make so much as top dollar and then have their loans paid back by the time they are 40, at which time they can start saving for retirement. You might have gotten better grades than me, but as a plumber, I think I ended up being the smarter one and was a product of my society instead of some self determined intellectual super star elitist who has to march because you are got ripped off so bad, it doesn’t even mater if you got a plumbing job, you will never catch up. Yeah, Knowledge is power … You can keep that power pal…These are the same unmotivated rejects who are assuring me I won’t make a lot of money getting my therapist license, because they know so many who thought the same and they didn’t make a lot of money. Meanwhile, not a single one of them has even a clue as to how you generate money and make a business work. They want to help people, not charge anybody, but become wealthy all at the same time… Sounds like the government model. They cry out, these people can’t afford it, what are they supposed to do. Well, raise money for your cause, charge lower visit rates, have back up sources to keep things flowing in down times. Or, just march on wall street for a month. that will do the trick. Idiots

I have been following this stupid protest since day one at the following link… http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution
They have been live-streaming the entire event since day one and if you follow them day by day you see patterns emerge. The most important one is this… There are two basic groups wrestling for control of what happens at these protests. You have the hippie-anti-capitalism-peaceful crowd and you have the Anarchists that want to light fires, break glass, and kick some butt. Up until the bridge march the hippies have pretty much had their way. The bridge march was used by the Anarchists to start some trouble.
No matter which group ends up controlling the protests this si not going to end well. I was hoping that the NYPD would have closed down the protest by the end of the first week, but because they have allowed it to drag on it is finally getting some traction and gaining support with the anti-America crowd.
Prediction… this catches-on soon and gets very very ugly. Be prepared because this is only the start.

Hey Neothinker are you really that ignorant? What country are you from? What’s the differennce between a “black” thug and an “Islamic” thug? None! A thug is a thug! Call it whatever you want, it’s all just plain ole ignorance to me. When will you and your fellow thugs FREE YOURSELVES from your own hateful bigoted ignorance? People (women are people here) in this country are generally free to do whatever they want so long as they don’t interfere with ayone elses right to life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness . They are not free to disrupt the vital daily functions of others as are these people (women included) blocking the bridge and “occupying” Wall Street.

How much freedom and democracy would you like? It may be that a majority of us (white folks perhaps) would decide (for whatever reason) that you are truly evil and vote democratically to exercise our limitless freedom and burn you at the stake. What would be wrong with that? The majority should be able to do whatever they want right? That‘s the real democracy and freedom we all seek isn’t it? The freedom to exercise our prejudices and dwell in our own ignorance as we destroy any hope for knowing the truth. In America most of the people, and the laws, reflect the truth that we are all God’s children (women included) equally ignorant as we are capable in the eyes of Our Father. Both sides here show restaint out of respect for that truth. To the extent that ignorance prevails violence ensues.

Well, here we go AGAIN. The protesters of “Occupy Wall Street” exercise their First Amendment right to freedom of peaceful assembly to protest against corporate welfare. Not too long after that, the New York Police Department incites a riot and exercises police brutality against the innocent protesters. Then, the police officers unjustifiably arrest the protesters for disorderly conduct involving…the exercising of the First Amendment right to freedom of peaceful assembly. THIS IS UTTERLY INSANE! When will the NYPD wake up from their addiction to un-Constitutional power and understand that the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters are actually on their side staging this protest?

Respectfully…blocking traffic on the Brooklyn bridge is barely peaceful protesting. It is a bridge with lanes for vehicular traffic…it doesn’t say anywhere in the Constitution that blocking the Brooklyn Bridge counts as a peaceful protestation. If the protestors are breaking the law in that respect they need to be arrested. The protestors are actually protesting in the wrong state and place…..they should be outside the White House and celebrating there…they all helped in great part to elect this problem. It’s not people that think or vote like you or I who are on that bridge. It’s full of Obama voters.

With all due respect, sir, I would have to say you’re missing the target. It was the New York Police Department itself that shut down Brooklyn Bridge. The NYPD had ACTUALLY lead the protesters away from the pedestrian pathway and straight into the bridge.
Here is a YouTube video explaining how it all went down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCYqz9o4aS0

“These useful idiots have no clue what they are there for or what the real organizers’ motivations are.”

Looks like you’re allowing your politics to impair your judgement. Yes, there are some Communists and Progressives within the protest, but there are Conservatives and Libertarians jumping into the fray as well, and most, if not all of them know what they’re fighting against: corporate welfare and the bailing out of failed banks with our taxpayer money. At least they’re brave enough to challenge the entity (Wall Street) that has spent the past decades buying our politicians into satisfying them with sweet deals at our expense. Besides, it’s the police officers that are the “useful idiots” for failing to see that what they are doing is un-Constitutionally wrong.

There is nothing unconstitutional about arresting people who are obstructing a bridge. The arrests occurred AFTER the crowd was told to leave the bridge, the reason why they should leave the bridge, and the consequences for not doing so. I have no problem with the protests, let people see these fools, hear them tell their lies about losing their homes, let them attack the very economic system that has enabled a good many of them to have the means to attend college. Arrest them when their freedom of speech and right to assemble tramples on other people rights as is the case with the bridge ncident.

If riots begin and people use their rights to protect their property and family with guns, than things will be turned around and those with the guns will be made to be the bad guys. I am not sure what can be done at this point. These kids are brainwashed. They are too stupid to realize that if Wall Street goes down, if banks go down, our country collapses, and everything that they enjoy will be gone. There will be no food, no electricity, etc. I watch and listen to these kids and they have no real idea on even why they are out there. Sad, to see so many sheep. Their parents should be proud-NOT!!!

The reason these “mobs” are a collection of so many fringe groups and presently have such an assortment of causes is they are getting all the fringe groups to “exercise” their memberships and gain some real time experience on the streets. These garbled message demonstrations are not actually about any real message… they’re about sorting out the minor players for the major leagues.

Somebody with deep pockets is funding these morons to practise and test their tactics and learn to disrupt the coming elections. They want the violence that will inevitably result from police actions to try to control the mobs of thugs and the MM media is more than ready to depict the first protester that gets shot while throwing a bomb as a “victim of Syrian style oppression by the corporate controlled government”. The weather will be too cold soon for any real “action” to start, but wait for next summer. Big cities are gonna burn….

Wait ’till they start to “flashmob” campaign speeches and then polling stations…

The high rate of under/unemployment is exactly what the radicals are needing to make social change occur. When people get desperate, depressed and scared comes the next step….anger and rage.

With this point all a rabble rouser needs to do is direct the mob at a preselected target (such as the BOA) and enflame the crowds with the “evils of the banks, capitalists, etc…” speech.

Involved as well will be the message of intolerance, injustice, economic warfare, displacement, greed, and such against the target.

Decry that the police and law system is being used to protect the capitalist fat cats…

Finally some incident will either happen, or be fabricated/instigated, and the mob turns violent…chaos results, and the law moves in to restore order, while the “victims of police brute force tactics…” will have videos that are conveinently edited for propaganda on the media swiftly, and the rumor mills on the social networks will roll with false claims of tear gas, mass shootings, panic, etc going on to get more people angered, scared, and such.

At some predetermined signal, other bands of radicals stage uprisings (so called “spontanious” ones) to spread the chaos further and further in the city.

One of the first lessons I learned from a great teacher who explained how this is done, and how to counter it, stated this “You do not need to lead the mob, just point a target, get it moving and then get out of the way.”

Everyone look at what has been going on for the last two weeks now:

First the Days of Rage in various cities, and in NYC on Wall Street to try and shut down a chosen bank as the object of their rage. Generally regarded as a flop, yet this has gotten people accustomed and conditioned to their existence.

Now, suddenly the Brooklyn Bridge is the sight of a massive arrests after the protesters violated the orders of law officials. Two others happened w/o incident…yet here is the key that takes this to a whole new dimension and level…

    Al Jazeera.

It now makes sense. The missing element of the movement, international pressure and propaganda showing the “tyranny of capitalism to its own peaceful people…” and the like. Nonsense of course, yet this can draw pressure on Obama to do something from the international and UN stages.

The protests most likely will turn violent soon, and with the big protest to storm DC Federal buildings on Oct 6th, more pressure will happen…or appear to be happening.

Watch closely the next few days for the administration and their cronies to start talking about the need to crack down in force, for Obama to deploy troops and such. Also watch the UN and other nations leaders to cry out to Obama to “stop the tyranny against peaceful protesters…”

And third, watch for the radicals of the unions and Islamists allied w/Obama, to strike out in force.

Within six weeks, everything we know will be on its head, unless we stand with

To the protesters: Corporatism is NOT part of a free market.

The free market did not cause the Great Depression; Rather, a massive expansion of credit by the Fed during the 1920s misled businesses into engaging in unsustainable long-term projects. This also led to overvaluation of these companies’ stocks. This was the Roaring 20s … Caused by the Fed … not by the free market.

When this false boom busted, as all false booms do, we had the stock market crash of 1929.

This is the Austrian Business Cycle Theory, basically (as applied to the Big Crash); And because Ron Paul knew Austrian Economics, he knew, way back in 2001, that the housing bubble would crash.

    See here.

Sept . 2001 Ron Paul Predicts Housing Bubble and Crash

And after the Crash, Keynesian Economics didn’t allow the economy to recover. This was our Great Depression.

Note also that capital IS involved in EVERY boom-bust cycle – BUT ONLY BECAUSE there was a massive non market expansion of credit.

A free market would NEVER result in panics, depressions, or recessions, because no one in a free market would risk extending this much credit! This goes for fractional reserve banking WHICH IS ALSO NOT PART OF A FREE MARKET.

Which brings me to the next logical point: Fiat money allows for a sneaky phenomenon called Cantillon effects, which is like a back door tax. By printing money out of thin air, the printers get to spend money at its current value before it gets devalued as it slowly devalues prices throughout the economy.

This, in effect, transfers wealth to the bankers and the government from everyone else.

This is why Ron Paul says to END THE FED. You cannot inflate certain commodity monies very well (such as gold), and so banks would stand and fall on their own, without taking the rest of the economy with it, were it not for the fact that we are being FORCED to use fiat money.

Where in the history of mankind was there a free market in your opinion?
The way you describe it, it sounds like an infeasible utopia to me, that ‘happens’ to coincide with the environment the largest companies wish to create.
The idea that a totally free market would be a perfect balance is just corporate propaganda. Big money has been spent to spread this ideology. So beware of your sources… No truly independent schollar supports Austrian Business Cycle Theory.
