Occupy Wall Street Protestors Interrupt Michele Bachmann Speech

An awkward situation unfolded this afternoon when Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann was speaking aboard the USS Yorktown in South Carolina. While delivering a foreign policy address, her speech was co-opted by Occupy Wall Street protestors.
About 10 minutes into her talk, Bachmann left the stage under police escorts after between 20 and 30 protestors stood up and began chanting in an effort to derail her speech. In typical Zuccotti-Park style, they used their “human megaphone” methodology, where one person shouts and everyone else chants what he or she is saying. Reading from a script, they chanted:
“This will only take a minute… You capitalize on dividing Americans / claiming people that disagree with you / are unpatriotic socialists / and you promote discrimination.”
Here’s some footage of the incident:
At first, Bachmann just stood there and watched the scene unfold. Then, audience members came to her rescue, as they tried to shout the Occupiers down. They yelled “sit down,” but their pleas weren’t recognized. After Bachmann exited the stage, the protestors marched off the USS Yorktown chanting their famous line, ”We are the 99 percent!”

Bachmann’s response? Once she returned to the stage, MSNBC reports that she said, ”Don’t you love the First Amendment?”

Every news interview I see with these protesters is an individual who appears to have fallen face first into a tackle box and lost all touch with rational behavior because of the trauma. It is time for the laws of the land to be enforced, free speach is onething but disruption of routine commerce and social activities is an unaceptable community organizer type activity. It is time for these tactics and their leader Odumba to be sent to some diverse country that could possibly apperciate them, We Do Not!!

It is time our officials start hearing the cry of the OWS movement and take heed. It isn’t going away, it wont “fix itself”, it demands change, we demand change, I DEMAND CHANGE.
Bachmann, this is only the beginning. And yes, I do love the first amendment.

Local municipalities needed to enforce existing laws so this did not get out of hand and really get violent. The protesters constantly engage in violent interactions and then scream that they were the one robbed of their rights or beaten mercifully. They get in the face of police man yelling and spitting at them. They try to block normal folks just trying to walk thru or do their jobs. That physical interaction is caused by them. I will tell you something right now….I was working in downtown Seattle during the WTO riots. I worked in the office building which was attached to the convention center and surrounded by protesters with a human chain. Myself and a group of colleagues went out for lunch and see what was going on. They said they would not let us in or out. Even though I was in a suit, it was time to bring back the old college lineman skills and show them what real power is. After they picked themselves up and said sorry, we continued on our war to grab a soup and sandwich. All I can say…bring it! You don’t want to go down this road protesters. You are already losing any support you had from main stream people. You are not in touch with reality or the issues for that matter. Do your homework..read a book but don’t try and stop me from practicing my rights. You smell, your violent, you cause disturbances with the volume of your voice…you are a criminal…get a permit!

Bachmann was far more gracious than she needed to be about this. Those protesters were on the USS Yorkshire. That is not a place where free speech counts. Order and complacency for our laws does count though. Those protesters should have been arrested. The Police were just afraid of repercussions from the media. But unlike this OWS disruption the Tea Partiers were angry with their particular representative and took it to them in the town halls. I saw no organized Tea Party events to disrupt anybody. I also haven’t seen any Tea Parties block entrances to banks, shout down reporters, break windows, urinate on…well….anything or do violence to anybody or anything. That’s the difference you should take note of.

The point was to make sure all those assembled understood what the speaker said, because they would all repeat it after him, from the front rows to the rear. Like much about OWS, protesters in other cities adopted the practice, whether or not amplification was banned. They seem to think it’s, how you say, groovy. I suppose to them it reeks of participatory democracy, town meeting practice, ancient Greek democracy, Native Americans around their council fires, or whatever their fantasy lives provide.

I really don‘t think it’s a generational issue. Less than one percent of American citizens are protesting, with a 9% national union membership. I agree with you, it’s disgusting to see the lack of respect these days by so many.
