Occupy Wall Street Sympathizer Creates ‘I’m Getting Arrested’ App to Help Protesters Avoid Police

Occupy Wall Street Sympathizer Jason Van Anden Creates I’m Getting Arrested App to Help Protesters Avoid Police

An Occupy Wall Street sympathizer created a free smartphone application to help demonstrators avoid getting arrested. The app, appropriately dubbed, “I’m Getting Arrested,” lets protesters send out text messages to friends, family, and fellow protesters to alert them when law enforcement draws near.

Occupy Wall Street Sympathizer Jason Van Anden Creates I’m Getting Arrested App to Help Protesters Avoid Police

Thus far, 9,000 people and counting have already installed the app, but, due to privacy controls, the creator doesn’t know if anyone has used the app yet.

The NY Daily News reports:

Jason Van Anden, a Brooklyn software developer, said he came up with the idea when a colleague told him his girlfriend was about to get busted at a demonstration.

“He said it would be great if you had an app so that she could quickly broadcast her situation,” said Van Anden, 43, a Flatbush dad.

He spent two long nights creating the app, which is available at Android Market. He’s working on making it available for the iPhone, too.

Users craft a text message in advance and program a list of recipients. Then, as cops get the bracelets out, they can hit one button and tell everyone on their list that they’re in danger of being pinched.

In retrospect, it’s odd no one created such an application sooner. Now, however, we might soon see an entire suite of Occupy-related apps flooding the market.

@MARCIA, I agree. It‘s easier to avoid arrest if you’re not doing something illegal. In Dallas, police are investigating this at the Occupy Dallas camp:

So let me get this straight. These dopes have been there for about a month or so, not working, saying life is unfair… Yet all the while being fed and “sent money” (our money) to protest the very institutions that indirectly pays them as well?

Am I missing something? That is the equivalent of my 14 year old daughter and my other 2 kids protesting in front of my house saying that I am not paying enough into the system. That I am evil and rich and should give everything over to them NOW! It makes no SENSE!!!

This OWS is an entirely different animal, which I might add has gone worldwide, and has evil undertones which make me wonder when the esclation will begin. Or, how about a “the conservatives are coming to beat us down again” app?

How about an app for males who are falsely arrested merely because any female wishes to flex her feminazi muscle and order the police to arrest males at random, just because they can. Lying to police is a felony, but if done by a female it magically gets ignored by police, DAs, courts, and society at large. You could call it the “Duke University App”.

Funny how they create an app for this, yet the majority of those I’ve read and seen get arrested in videos DESERVED it. If you can’t demostrate peacefully, then don’t demostrate at all.

Also, if you hate corporations (including those that aren’t part of the problem) then why are you using items created by a corp?

“In retrospect, it’s odd no one created such an application sooner.”

Not really. Being arrested is a tactic used to make the police look bad and make the media and public take notice. It is also an indirect way of threatening violence: Theirs is a “peaceful” demonstration, but just the WORD “arrest” conjures up images of violence. Very useful.

Really, how hard could it be NOT to be arrested in a “peaceful” demonstration?
These people WANT to be arrested. The app warning might give them some time to get into character and get ready for the cameras though….

You know what the difference between these punks and the ones in the 1960s? Back then, we had the draft.
Now you know why we got rid of the draft. We found back then that these pukes, when drafted, were no better in uniform than they were on the streets. Better to have a volunteer army than these morons. Still, too many -shall I say- less than desirable candidates still find their way into uniform. But at least we don’t haul them off the streets anymore and expect them to serve and protect us.
However, I still think they should be hauled off the streets. I seriously doubt this is the kind of “free speech” the founders had in mind. I would be more inclined to categorize this as lawless insurrection.

In Luke 19:13 Jesus tells a parable to illustrate to His followers what they must do until He returns.(They believed the Kingdom of Heaven should immediately appear.) Jesus said: “And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.”

It is interesting that the Greek word for “Occupy” (Pragmateuomai) means to busy oneself with a trade; to carry on a business; to carry on the business of a banker or a trade.

Now isn’t that ironic?  Sounds like our “Occupiers” need to reconsider their name -or – join their fellow capitalists and bankers- the true Occupiers!

How ironic that they will be able to send a warning to the Wall Street druggies, but in Florida and a few other states it is a crime to flash your headlights to warn speeders to slow down. I guess the first to head to court for the flashing lights was a conservative instead of a liberal. I have been abliged by the flash of the headlights since I was 16 years old and I am now 59. Motorists saved me many tickets and may have saved lives by slowing my friends and I down in blinding curves where cops were hiding out. I actually knew a kid that came into a curve speeding, saw a cop car, freaked out and lost control and hit a telephone pole, luckily he survived, but had some longlasting injuries. Maybe a warning could have prevented that, but these Wall St. creeps are not getting courtesy warnings…they are premeditated warnings so they plan how to commit crime and get away with it..
