‘Occupying Fox News’: See the Occupy Wall St. Ad that Aired During ‘The O’Reilly Factor’

Occupy Wall Street Ads Air During OReilly Factor on Fox News | David Sauvage directsIf you can’t beat them, advertise with them. This is apparently the new adage being embraced by filmmakers who are sympathetic to the Occupy Wall Street protests.

At least one director and his associates have purchased ad space on Fox News and Bloomberg Business TV, among other outlets, in an effort to bring the Occupy message to opponents.

Believe it or not, the group even bought time on “The O’Reilly Factor.” On Wednesday night, the pro-Occupy ad was slated to air three times during the program — once during the 8 p.m. time slot and two times during the program’s second showing at 11 p.m.

Host Bill O’Reilly, of course, hasn’t been supportive of the Occupiers. Below, see a recent report during which he said, “There is no question the ”Occupiers” are now on the lunatic fringe.”:

The advertisement apparently appeared over the weekend on Fox seven times, although it also aired on ESPN, History International and the Outdoor Channel, among other networks. This first ad, which you can watch below, was directed by David Sauvage, who recently completed work for the Wall Street Journal:

Some may be wondering how monies were raised for the project. After all, getting an ad placed on network television isn’t easy — nor is it cheap. Apparently, a web site called Loudsauce allowed activists to raise the funds needed to bring the project to the small screen.

In addition to the above ad, there are apparently two others that have not yet aired. Sauvage, of course, is seeking more funds to bring these to television as well. Here’s a screen shot of the fundraising page, where supporters are encouraged to give small gifts of under $100:

Occupy Wall Street Ads Air During OReilly Factor on Fox News | David Sauvage directs

According to MarketWatch, Sauvage says that he became interested in helping the Occupy movement after he went down to see what the protesters were all about. Clearly, he was captivated and, thus, he decided that he wanted to “capture” their energy. In an e-mail to the outlet, he wrote:

“I went down there one evening and I was inspired.  I had the feeling that the protesters really did know what they wanted. And it was wonderful that they wanted different things.”

The director’s choice to see the ad air in such controversial placements is intentional. ”I want to put it in places where you don’t expect. I’m a big believer with talking to the other side,” Sauvage said. He has jokingly referred to the effort as “occupying Fox News.”

Below, watch another ad that includes footage of an October 14 standoff between police and protestors. The Occupiers can be heard chanting their familiar line, “The whole world is watching,” with some of them holding up peace signs:

And here’s another, 15-second clip:

The Huffington Post reports, “Former White House adviser Van Jones and his new Rebuild the Dream group have been promoting [the first ad].” Considering Jones’ ideals, this is no surprise.

It will be interesting to see if Sauvage and Jones hook up in the near future on other Occupy-related initiatives.

Just who is claiming there is no money ? I thought it was clear, the 99% do have some money. the moment isn’t about a “free for all” as FOX, RUSH, BECK,.. try to paint it as. One side always tries to demonize, marginalize the other by offering a few facts, shows a few clips of a few wackos that EXIST in EVERY MOVEMENT and paint the whole as being 100% bad. There are 2 sides to EVERY story, and people who seak truth , I think know that. The insecure cling to issues being black and white. Certain media knows this and plays on people’s fears and tries to spin the whole movement as being controlled by a few extremists. I never listen to one side telling what the other is about, they will of course spin the message. Its fine to not be for the OWS, but don’t believe you are getting an accurate picture from a cons. based media source. since their ratings are based upon presenting a cons. agenda. For example:I have never heard RUSH say anything positive EVER about ANY 1 thing a dem. did right. If that is true , then why ? it wouldn’t help his ratings hence his $.

If you follow the money on the Tea Party, it always comes back to the Koch brothers. The Koch brothers who have more money than Soros and seek greater personal involvement in American politics than Soros ever sought. They are also more extreme and reactionary than most Americans. They’ve been very effective in getting you folks to spout their talking points, even when it’s against your own interest. Look at what has happened to the income of people like the Koch brothers and look what has happened to the middle class. Our incomes grew at about 20%, theirs grew by over 250% in just the 30 years. We can’t afford another 30 years of this, the top 1% controls 20% of the economy, double what it controlled 30 years ago, if the same happens, they will control 40% of the economy, leaving the rest of us with just 60%, is that your idea of the American Dream?

For what reason is this allowed to continue? I have nothing against protesting, but not at the expence of others. The taxpayers of New York should demand that the occupires pick up this tab. Desertrose … what an idiot! If your income rose only 20% in the past 30 years, whose fault is that??? Let me clue you in … it is YOUR FAULT! Not the Koch brothers!!! Get off your lazy backside and WORK HARDER! Do you think people who make more money than you do are sitting around whining and complaining and blaming others about all the bad things in THEIR lives? NO, they are not! They look at the real world and they SEE that it takes hard work and BRAINS to make money. They already have the brains, which you obviously don’t have, and all that means is, if you want to make MORE money, you have to work a little harder than those who DO have brains. @Balpit, you are correct. However, SWALT parroted poor Boxer so earnestly, I was struck by the similarity. Orwell’s point was that ordinary people are often the unknowing tools of the plutocrats who rule them. The same is true of The.Gatekeeper who actually defends “Trickle-down Economics”, not even David Stockman does that anymore. Reaganomics wasn’t “Trickle-Down“ it was ”Gusher-Up”, there was a class warfare waged in the last 30 years and the middle class lost ground. Here is another article if you don’t believe me:

@000Degrees, From my reading, I have reason to believe the “pie” is shrinking. Yes, the U.S. grew at a rapid rate, but there has been no increase in “real wages” expressed in “constant dollars” in the last 40 years. The U.S. used to build stuff and invest in infrastructure for the future. Infrastructure has been crumbling for the last few decades and most manufacturing jobs have been sent overseas. Instead, we made the buying and selling of money the business of America and we created bubbles and deficits, enormous deficits so we must cut services. The USA Today article makes it clear that the middle class is worse off than they were a decade ago, despite a rise in productivity. Did it ever occur to you that my slice of the pie is already bigger than I ever expected, but maybe I wanted others to be able to have some of the pie, too?

Do you have any idea how many new “services” our lawmakers created? Do you think they are necessary? How did we once get along without all the handouts? Let me head you off at the pass….poor people need help. Able bodied people have been conditioned to think they can’t do it without their party looking out for them (more handouts). thank you union thug friends for sending jobs overseas…and of course governmental rules and regulations…

but you‘re lying again about ’we used to build stuff’…or you’re just ignorant….

Americans make more “stuff’’ than any other nation on earth, and by a wide margin. According to the United Nations’ comprehensive database of international economic data, America’s manufacturing output in 2009 (expressed in constant 2005 dollars) was $2.15 trillion. That surpassed China’s output of $1.48 trillion by nearly 46 percent. China’s industries may be booming, but the United States still accounted for 20 percent of the world’s manufacturing output in 2009 — only a hair below its 1990 share of 21 percent.

“The decline, demise, and death of America’s manufacturing sector has been greatly exaggerated,’’ says economist Mark Perry, a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington. “America still makes a ton of stuff, and we make more of it now than ever before in history.’’ In fact, Americans manufactured more goods in 2009 than the Japanese, Germans, British, and Italians — combined.

@Joe1234, I was there at 9/12, I had my picture taken with Orly Taitz. I met up with the crowd of about 50,000-70,000 at the Navy Memorial. At 8/28, I wore SEIU purple, standing next to the statute of Vietnam soldiers near stage left. Later,I stood under the trees near the stage right while Glenn was speaking. I had walked all the way around the Lincoln Memorial. I took a picture of a young man with a counterprotest sign. He was scratched by an older lady who screamed at him that he wasn’t supposed to bring signs to the protest. I was standing outside the Capitol around 5:00 PM on March 20th. The crowd was shouting “Nancy, come out and play!” as they stood under the Speaker of the House’s office window. I was at Zuccotti Park, every day between Oct 14-17th. I was there when Ben and Jerry were scooping ice cream. I had Cherry Garcia. I also got a free piece of pizza that was donated by a California pizza company. On October 7th, I attended Occupy D.C. and walked 28 blocks up to the Capitol and back. I also visited all six Congressional office buildings. I left a message at Speaker Boehner’s office.
Your expert is a scholar with a Conservative think tank. If you think we are still making more things than anyone else, why do we have a trade deficit? Unions built this country, but now only about 5% of non-public service jobs are unionized. If unions are the problem, where are the jobs now? I can tell the truth, when will you wacko TeaCons ever believe

How come the rest of us are still wondering what they want and how is it wonderful that they want different things? It’s pathetic to go protest and not know what you are protesting or what you want. Just go back to your unimportant life. These poor suckers, the OWSers do not have a clue, neither does David Sauvage fellow. Just maybe if Sauvage hung around Michael Savage and/or Mark Levin for a week, he could get an education as to just what is happening in this country – a better education than the academia excreted loons that proliferate OWS. What a tragedy – what has happened to our secondary education! You can pretty much take the elevator down to the primary level and observe the same disfunctional application of the educational process and the indoctrination of political correctness. We are permitting the universities and primary education to breed and infect our culture with useful idiots – useful only to the leftist political extremist. Certainly not useful to our freedom loving country, true individualism, nor an industrial work ethic based upon free enterprise.
They are all being indoctrinated into the Obama led socialist/communist mindset and ideology, which prepares the Pied Pipers for being controlled like robots – garbage in garbage out.
How long before we get the message, get organized and get moving to take this country back?
Believe it or not, it has begun. There is a tremor which is building into a rumble, and it has the support of truth, righteousness and justice – the God inspired, God initiated and God effectuated kind, and to Him be all praise, glory and honor. We exist and we are growing in number. We are of the somewhat rare kind, where 1 can put 800 and 2 put 10,000 to flight.

A college education was pushed as being the key to success when it has just turned out to be a piece of paper…..a pedigree. Every one can’t be the same or equal. There is always a bottom and a top. They have lowered standards in grade school on up to help the ones so they wouldn’t feel on the bad side of competition. When did competition, hard work and success become bad? It started in grade school. Too many stood silent and bought into this whole social engineering project with all the political correctness and kissing up to everyone’s self esteem. Now we have a bunch of arrogant grown kids. Confidence and arrogance are two different things.

After 3 decades upholding and defending my Constitution I finally see a chance to create a third political party. If the chance exists it is this movement. For once the little guy has become active. And yes they have a valid point. Our current system is designed to hammer the middle class and allow those with money to stick it to everyone else.
Get real, income disparities is completely out of whack and it is high time the criminals who attacked our economy are taken to task. Those employed by Wall Street, big banks, the religious nuts who claim they are fiscal conservatives along with 8 years of lies and high crimes must be held accountable. However, without a new political party, which starts in the middle as opposed to the extremes, it will never happen.

Fox better be careful, since this GROUP is about to OCCUPY their station! This is one of the MAIN goals of this so called movement. The writing has been on the wall for some time now! I read the many threats on some of the Fox News Homepage comments.. BAD BAD BAD. There will be violence and they better get our friends there a WHOLE LOT OF PROTECTION! WOW, It’s like being in IRAN! (I have to laugh at all their FUNDRAISING and all teh things they are SELLING from their tents, for such a GRASSROOTS movemnet, who say they don’t NEED OR LIKE MONEY?) haha
