Octomom Defends Going on Welfare: ‘It’s 100 Percent About My Children’

Nadya Suleman, better known as “Octomom,” is defending her decision to go on welfare and says she will be off public assistance soon.
“I still am working as hard as I possibly can to support them,’’ Suleman said Thursday during an appearance on NBC’s “Today.” Suleman has 14 children, eight of whom she gave birth to in 2009 through in-vitro fertilization.
She said she made the call to go on public assistance “reluctantly,” and said fear and pride initially stopped her from accepting help.
“[My] priority is my children, their health, their well-being, their safety,” she said. “Who cares how I feel? Who cares about me? It’s 100 percent about my children.’’
Suleman said she hopes to be off public assistance within two months, citing incoming revenue from an online project called “Octomom TV’’ that will raise money through advertising and her participation in “Dial-A-Star,’’ which allows people to call in and talk to a “real celebrity” for a fee. She also recently posed topless for a British magazine, but told NBC’s Matt Lauer she will never do pornography, stating flatly, “I won’t touch other human flesh. The only flesh I’m touching is my own.”
“I would never, never accept anything. I will not lose my grip of my deeply indoctrinated morals and values,” Suleman said. “I have to be the ultimate positive role model [for my children].”

Maybe you should weep a tear for those children who are not being born to intelligent responsible people – due to the likes of Octomom.
Also – I feel that your post lacks some depth. Reminds me of my wife who saw a cat outside our yard. She decided to feed it instead of “letting it suffer”. The cat actually did pretty well & ended up having many babies. Then, we decided to move. Sh felt bad because all the extra cats around our house from the years of breeding were going to starve. Instead of making one “suffer” there were now many who suffer.
You type of thinking leads to suffering on a large scale.

Fine. Pay for the starving children. I agree they are in this situation thru no fault of their own. That doesn’t mean this brood sow should also be allowed to feed. I am sick to death of “saving” people (whores, junkies, fatties) who solely own their lot in life. That’s not Christian; that’s busybody nonsense and enabling. It’s downright disgraceful.
I’m all for helping those amongst us who are in a dire situation thru no fault of their own. I’m not for helping those who manipulate systems & use guilt to bully support.
Having children you cannot support is neglectful. But the state can’t “save” all the whores, bums, junkies and fatties, let alone their children. However, we will tell ourselves soothing lies that it is right & good to assume the state can and should take money to perpetuate this problem.
Remember this noble sentiment if you’re ever competing with this trash for survival. I’m sure she could offer you baby stew… for the right price.

If I recall corrrectly, this “poor” soul KNEW what she was doing when she became impregnated with a litter… she wanted to be a spectacle so she could exploit the situation. There is no easy answer with this situation. In my draconian world, these kids would be removed and placed with the folks paying lipservice to how much they want to care and pay for the little ragamuffins’ upbringing.
Would you prefer a girl or boy? And I must warn you, in my world, no govt. check would follow… that way I know your intentions are pure.
I’m pointing out what appears to be the obvious. This gal birthed to exploit the situation. That’s not love. That’s using a society and children to promote self. Defend as you will. I‘m sure the children won’t starve… and I’m sure this gal will use both govt. and other enablers to live well. What a touching story.

Before the “safety net” parents worked to pay for their children & those who were unable to earn enough turned to family, the Church & other charities. When the older kids were able, they went to work to help care for their family. The state had little or nothing to do w/ it.
