Odd: Kucinich Defends Olive Lawsuit by Telling MSNBC All About His Teeth

Lawrence O’Donnell has started to make a name for himself as a fiery interrogator, often getting into yelling matches with guests he disagrees with. So when O’Donnell announced Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) was going to be on the show to explain why he sued the congressional cafeteria for $150,000 after his sandwich contained a non-pitted olive — apparently causing him “suffering and loss of enjoyment” — this writer couldn’t wait to see the segment. But alas, it seems Larry left his “bad cop” persona in the closet for this one.
That‘s not to say that O’Donnell didn’t set up the interview to be an epic battle. He did. The interview introduction lasts just over two-and-a-half minutes, and covers everything from a screen shot of the lawsuit and a video taken days after the incident in 2008, to a critical quote from the Washington Post. But that’s where the excitement ends. As the interview opens, viewers quickly learn that Kucinich is all business about his teeth, and will give a detailed explanation that will eventually include talk of dental-related “rejection.”
As for O’Donnell, the most riveting question he asks is what the total cost of Kucinich’s dental bills was. Kucinich quickly brushes that aside, and O’Donnell shows no sign of asking the same question in a more angry, annoyed tone as he’s done in the past. Here’s the clip, and the intimate details of Kucnich’s mouth:
As the interview says, the lawsuit has been settled.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:39amI’m no fan of Rep Kucinich, but all of you saying this was ‘frivolous’ or stupid, etc., evidently haven’t been to the dentist lately. The cost of removing a tooth or teeth and replacement bridges etc. is very expensive. This isn’t really newsworthy, but since the media brought this to light its their responsibility for having this info made public. I‘m sure Kucinich didn’t want to talk about his teeth on national TV.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 10:30amYou are such a Kool-aid drinker… $150,000! You need to find a new dentist. The decent thing would have been to sue just for the dentist bill. Stand up and show leadership in this country. Not a frivolous lawsuit? Pfffft

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 10:53amMissed your “no fan of” comment as my eyes were drawn to frivolous. And since I don’t recall any of your posts. I’ll take you at your word and retract the Kool-aid. But you gotta be kidding me… Obama just talks about frivolous lawsuits and days later Rep. Kucinich files a 150k lawsuit. And that’s not newsworthy? Good leadership leads people by example. He should have made the bill public and settled for that… And showed the American people the right thing to do. How much do you think he actully spent?

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 12:13pmFried Okra: Wait, $150,000 is too much?? What about his pain and suffering? Don’t forget that. That’s worth at least $125,000!

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:33amWhen he says the bill was paid “out of pocket”, does he mean my pocket or his?
At the end, he says “Americans are getting short changed by insurance companies who make money not providing health care.”
Report Post »What about Americans getting short changed by elected officials who make money from frivolous lawsuits?

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:11amDennis the Menace cites “serious and permanent dental and oral injuries” from the pesky olive pit. I might buy the dental injuries claim, but not the oral injuries. Those were likely caused by putting objects much bigger than olive pits in the mouth that don’t belong there, like his foot and other things.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:09amHe had to sue them because they can’t raise the taxes anymore. Besides this way he could get an upgrade on his teeth. I bet Ohio is real proud of him now. Now if this had have been a Republican this interview would have been totally different.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 8:47amSo he suing the tax payers by suing the federal cafeteria. I would say then that United state Citizens should sue him for passing what is now considered an Unconstitutional bill. We should also sue him for breach of contract when he broke his oath the the American People by passing Unconstitituional legislation. He should be required to repay every dollars he every recieved as a congressman and ran out of D.C.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:24amThat’s what we need in Washington .. more of the run out of town on a rail.
“The victim was usually seated astride the rail as one would ride a horse (a position which was, not surprisingly, very painful). The rail and its rider were then borne by two men, usually part of a large mob, to the town limits, where the banishee was dumped in a ditch and warned not to return. The warning was often amplified by the application of hot tar and feathers to the rider, a punishment that was extremely painful, often permanently disfiguring, and occasionally fatal.”

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 8:46amGood one Bronco. What a joke this guy is. This is another example of why we need to enact the frivolous lawsuit act. That way if you lose, you pay the costs. It would stop a lot of these kinds of crazy cases. Remember the lady that sued McDonald’s because she spilled the coffee on herself? Notice how Kucinich refuses to say what it cost him to get his teeth fixed?

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:16amLet me get this straight… This guy CHOSE NOT to buy the dental care insurance plan. So then he gets an injury that requires dental surgery. Then he sues a cafeteria to get a $150,000 settlement. Who are the primary patrons at the congressional cafeteria? Govt employees! This means the tax payees are on the hook for this settlement!
Then he goes on to say that he wants to FORCE Americans to buy health care and his plan would also require dental plan!
This makes perfect sense when you consider the mindset and the source.
