Off to ‘Road Island’: Biden Camp Misspells State in Press Release

We’ve all made errors.* But this one is just too ironic to ignore. In a press release announcing Vice President Joe Biden’s schedule for the week, the name of the great state of Rhode Island was misspelled to note the gaffe-prone VP would be campaigning in “Road Island” on Thursday.
“On Thursday, the Vice President will travel to Boston, Massachusetts, Manchester, New Hampshire and Providence, Road Island to attend campaign events,” the memo sent out to journalists said. WPRI-TV was able to track down a copy:
WPRO-RADIO reports Biden is headed to the Ocean State to campaign for U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. It also says the error has been corrected.
But the Biden camp isn’t the only one that has had a hard time spelling campaign stops lately. Rick Santorum’s group did it too when it announced it was headed to “Bimidji, Minnesota.” It’s spelled “Bemidji.”
And if you find any errors in this post, they’re just meant for ireny. (Gotcha!)
*Heck, an earlier headline even spelled the mistake as “rode.“ But is that just part of the ”ireny?”

Posted on February 21, 2012 at 6:02pmJZS, Yeah, but professional politicians such as a Vice President has an ungodly number of assistants to include several editors for any of their written statements. Yeah, any of us can make typos and I am as guilty as anybody myself. But, just as when I was in the Army and worked as a doctrine writer. Any misspellings and technically wrong statements I made in my writings that got through the editors, it came back to slap my boss on the face. Or it would have had our COL’s editor had not caught everything. Just a matter of where the buck stops, the boss is held responsible for the screw ups of his underlings. Joe is a major gaffe master anyway, and this just adds more fodder for our humor. Furthermore, I bet you never let go when Bush tripped over his speech impediment.

One road which led to the BOQ was named for Carl Ridenhour (who was Doolittle’s Chief of Operations). The sign came back from the shop, and was put in place. I was astounded to see a roadsign reading Ride An Hour Road.

Responding to a caller from New Mexico, she said “New Mexico, old Mexico, it does not matter, right now we are only selling tickets to citizens of the U.S.” The caller insisted that New Mexico is a U.S. state, but phone service person wasn’t buying it. Eventually straightened out by a supervisor.

Apparently the Germans in the sign shop got the first street right as “1st Street, but all others had the numeral followed by “th.” I always pronounced 2th Street as Tooth Street.

All seriousness aside, I have been known to misspell states and other words that should have been obvious when looking at them, but the brain temporarily disengaged and the fingers did their own thing. I guess they were going on a rebellious streak.

No because this is most likely about a college staffer who made a poor typo on some itinerary for the VP. As I stated its ironic that Seidl would call this person out, because he is the biggest offenders of typos on this site.
