‘Offensive and Inappropriate for a Teen’: Lesbian Image in Urban Outfitters’ April Catalogue Draws Controversy

Clothing giant Urban Outfitters, fresh from their previous outing with controversy after stocking supplies from the communist-sympathizing Obey Clothing, has gotten on the wrong side of consumers again, this time with an ad in their April clothing catalogue depicting two women kissing. What the image is supposed to be advertising is not clear from looking at it:
In response, the group One Million Moms, which advertises itself as opposed to the exploitation of children in the media, has taken to its website to denounce the picture and call on parents to throw out any Urban Outfitters catalogues they receive.
“Trash Your Teen’s New Urban Outfitters Catalogue,” the headline on One Million Mom’s website shrieks. “The ad and catalog are clearly geared toward teenagers. Tell them you will also no longer shop at their stores if you hear this type of advertising continues. The content is offensive and inappropriate for a teen who is the company’s target customer.”
One Million Moms has previously been involved in a controversy surrounding JC Penney, which they attacked for allowing famed lesbian daytime talk show host Ellen Degeneres to be a spokeswoman. Degeneres reacted on her own show at the time with sarcastic outrage:
“This organization doesn‘t think that I should be the spokesperson because I’m gay,” Degeneres said. “I am happy to say that JC Penney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson.”
One Million Moms has a long history of pushing these sorts of boycotts, some of which have been successful, especially as pertaining to the controversial television show “GCB.” Their mission is frankly religious – in fact, their Facebook page all but explicitly advertises them as a Christian group. For instance, one status reads “The separation of church and state is called the rapture.”

We Christians are not looking to be “in touch” with your liberal reality. We prefer to be correct via the Bible (we have that first amendment right thing going on). Yes, the MSM, Lady Ga Ga, Ellen the Degenerate, Obama, Madonna, you, and the rest of the ilk on MTV want to sell America that “gay” is good. Well guess what? Our Bible calls it an abomination (Lev 18 22).
Along with the bible telling us it is wrong, world history shows that any nation that accepts homosexuality as normal, soon falls. The CDC lets us know that gays make up 2.5 % of the population, but have 64% of the syphilis, and made up around 70% of new HIV cases last year. The FBI crime stats lets us know that gays commit a third of all child molestations. We also know that gays have double the drug and alcohol abuse rates as non gay, and they commit suicide at three times the rate as non gays.
The good news is that you can change from you wicked lifestyle. Sin is sin, and you can turn from yours. Pull out a KJV, and read the Gospel of John.

I get a number of these things in the mail so I can follow the alleged style trends (I may reject the current style and go on wearing a button-down and a fedora, but I do try to follow along). But what does the image have to do with selling the clothes? Are there that many teen girls who need to check out how their dress will look when they’re making out with one of their friends? Nah… I’ll bet the catalog did it on purpose to hit the news, then everyone orders the catalog to see what the issue is and their circulation goes way up. Nice marketing ploy.

A part from artificial, technical means, homosexuals still rely on heterosexuals for their existence. No DSM-IV category or man-made law can change basic biology. An old story, but still true. Those old testament sins are still sin today, and we still call them sin. Christians are not calling for the execution of sinners.

What you seem to be advocating is fascism. Mob rule, if you will. A pure democracy. The judges obviously believe that they are protecting the constitutional rights of the homosexuals by overturning the will of the majority, which judges do in a constitutional republic. However, when the Federal Courts overrides what the states have said, in this regard, they’re violating the 10th admendment, which THXLL is against. (at least from what I take from his previous posts). You can twist it any way you want, he’s no statist. No Libertarian or Constitutionalist is a statist, and he’s about as Libertarian as one can be. If a person or group is so put off by a company’s advertising, and chooses to no longer buy from them, that is their right. If enough people stop buying from a company, it will change itself or cease to exist. I’m all for companies deciding who they want as their demographic, and for organizations to vocally disagree if they wish. That said, teens have been targeted with overt sexual content for decades. I’d have been more impressed with Million Moms if they had taken a stand against ANY sexual content targeted toward children.
As to Ellen, she is a nice person who is very funny and tries to do nice things for people. Disagree with the way she lives if you wish, but I would challenge that 90% of the spokespeople out there don’t live the way most people would approve, at least in some way. Ellen may be a sinner, but she is no more one than any of the rest of us. She is not a radical activist that is constantly banging the drum of her cause. 99% of the time she simply entertains her audience and I’ve never seen her get preachy. Why is it so offensive to use her to advertise a product? She is never vulgar, is not overt about her sexuality, and she genuinely helps people. Aside from who she goes home to at night, what has she done that is in any way offensive? Why don’t people get as vocal about the 80% of celebs who are shacking up or making babies out of wedlock? Why does the gay thing get people going so much?

That being said I have a huge problem with your comments about Ellen and homosexuals. No wonder the left believe we are all a bunch on Bigots. I have been reading the bigoted remarks on the blaze for months now and have bit my lip every time, but not this time! Ellen is an amazing woman, her spirit lights up a room and I am sorry that you cannot see that! Some of my best friends and family members are gay. For the majority of them this WAS NOT a choice. They are doing the best with the cards they have been dealt. One of my family members, who is gay, is living a celibate life because he chose his religion over his lifestyle. More telling is that while I was still in the Army I occasionally had to deal with the AWOL soldiers because of my job. One of them was named Abricrombie and I had to ask. He was a member of the family and said he just didnt think it was in his familes values so he left his BCT unit.
