Offensive? Navy SEAL Training Includes Shooting at Targets Shaped Like Muslim Woman

Here’s a true or false question for our readers:

True or false? A Navy SEAL will, at some point in their career, most likely have to shoot anti-American Islamic extremists.

Based on the experience of SEAL Team 6 in killing Osama bin Laden, we‘d say it’s probably a fairly safe bet that this statement is true. However, apparently preparing them for that possibility via training targets is now an attack on all Muslims, even those who would never take up arms against the United States. At least, that’s the argument advanced by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in response to news reports showing that the following training target is used to train Navy SEALS:

A prominent national Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization today called on Pentagon officials not to use a target depicting a Muslim woman wearing a religious head scarf (hijab) and verses from the Quran in combat scenarios for training Navy SEALs at the new close quarters combat range at Joint Base Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Va.

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said that military facility, referred to as a “kill house,” features a number of combat scenarios, including a mosque and a movable target of a Muslim woman wearing hijab and aiming a handgun. Verses from the Quran, Islam’s revealed text, are also displayed behind the target.

“Using a Muslim woman wearing a religious head scarf with [verses from the] Quran behind her as a target for our nation’s military personnel is offensive and sends a negative and counterproductive message to trainees and to the Muslim-majority nations to which they may be deployed,” wrote CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. “This is yet another example of why the Department of Defense needs to fix what appears to be an ongoing problem by consulting credible scholars and experts to review all training and training materials related to Islam or Muslims.”

CAIR’s press release also links to this video, which informs us that CAIR has also contacted Attorney General Eric Holder and asked him to probe the usage of the targets, claiming that law enforcement at all levels are being taught to hate Muslims:

But is anti-Muslim sentiment all that’s really involved here? CAIR cites a number of articles from progressive sources about how the law enforcement community is prejudicially anti-Muslim, but it seems to us that such an accusation would be difficult to make without first knowing what other targets are used in these training exercises. Would it, for instance, be considered racist against whites to have a target shaped like Timothy McVeigh? And if not, then what distinguishes that from this claim that essentially, training our soldiers and law enforcement to deal with one kind of Muslim is an attack on all Muslims?

    You will act the way you train in a sudden and tense situation. It wouldn’t be the first time an islamic extremist woman tried to harm non-muslims. CAIR can take their PC BS and stick it where the sun don’t shine.

      Read history. Read the Koran.

      Training someone to defend themself or another,and even their country is one thing. But I have noticed that the SEAL training is not much different then the training of a Waffen SS Trooper, and it’s just as Godless.

      Maybe the Navy SEAL‘s are something our country doesn’t need……

      First of all this has nothing to do with paper targets of Muslim Women.

      Everyone on here including myself believes that our country need and wants God, Morals and Values.
      You can not train people (Navy SEAL’s) to forget God, Morals and Values, and then hide under the blanket of military service. Our country can not train it’s citizens to assassinate and murder our enemies, and then justify those actions under God, Morals and Values.
      We are a better people then this.

      War is a terrible, horrible, ” War is the scourge of mankind.” The only good thing about war, is when it’s over.

      What are you going to do with the Navy SEAL’s after the war ? What are you going to do with men that have had God, Morals and Values, trained out of them ? Are you going to throw them away ? Give them a little pat on the back and say thanks, while you walk away ?

      You are using up other people, to get what you want right now. You are only thinking of yourselves.

      May God have mercy on you for what you are doing……..

      Brian-Your comments are ridiculous. SEALs are “godless/killers?” If you knew anything about special forces, you would know the use of them actually saves lives. They risk their lives to save people. You may hear about missions that do result in deaths, but that is not all they do. To act as if they are some mercenary force is completely dishonest, they use their training to save lives, not end them.

      As far as being godless, that is dishonest as well. Not all SEALs are Christian, there is diversity within their teams, and the individuals can take solace how they see fit, but as a group they live and die for America. Have some respect, you have no idea what they go through for this country.

      No other Special Operations Force in the United States Armed Forces, is trained anything like the Navy SEAL’s.
      D.E.L.T.A (Special Forces Operational Detachment), Army Special Forces (Green Berets), Rangers, Marine Recon, not one of these Elite Forces discourages it’s members from believing in God. Only the Navy SEAL’s do this.

      And the SEAL’s themselves are suffering from their lack of God.

      My earlier response to Bryan B was censored so I’ll try a more PC version.
      Bryan, you train to fight your enemies, in this case it happens to be radical Islamists, which is about 10% of the total Islamic population. The various terror groups in the territory of the Palestinian Authority, and Iraq have recruited and used women as suicide bombers. Women carry weapons for the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and know how to use those weapons. We are not fighting a Marques of Queensbury war here if you hadn’t noticed. In a fire fight you need to react in the last second not somewhere in the future to determine whether THIS person in front of me is a threat. It needs to be muscle memory to protect yourself and your team. You use WHATEVER training aids necessary to forge those reflexes. The fact that you used the SS as an example is proof that indoctrination works and makes that enemy less human. The bottom line is this, if Mother Teresa was running a terrorist cell, it is fair game to put her face on a target. Perhaps would feel better if the SEALs had used Sami Al-Arian’s picture as a target.

      Dont pay any attention to that spineless p*ssy, BRYANB. I have never been in the military (although, I wish I had been…SEAL, no less) and even I know that God is present on every mission. I consider myself a prayer warrior-in-training and I pray unceasingly for our SEALS…and all of our military…but, especially the SF. They have the most dangerous job in the world and because of the secrecy associated therewith, their work is never discussed openly. Nor are they commended publicly.

      Tell your husband that I said a great big “thank you” for putting himself in harm’s way to preserve the freedoms that I get to enjoy.

      Read your posts. Here is the deal our country was founded on war and we have fought wars in virtually EVERY decade of our existence, some big and some not so big. The picture you are painting of a group of highly trained warriors with nothing to do going on some sort of PTSD rampage hasn’t happened yet. Sure there are a few individuals IN EVERY segment of society who fall outside of the norm, even civilians, maybe especially civilians. The PTSD individual is much more likely a threat to themselves than to others. Lastly, just because we are (currently) out of Iraq and are planning on leaving Afghanistan with our conventional forces doesn’t mean these guys will be out of a job any time soon. They will be training, freeing hostages, neutralizing Somali pirates and training other SF world wide. In that context they will have more time, perhaps, with each other. In my 3 years in the military (non combat) I found that the BEST support group were the guys in your unit. On that score they have the best support group in the world. Please send some stats on former SS soldiers running amok after 1945.
      One last thought, better to be bold and winning than meek and whining.

In the real world, our men (and women) need to get over the “normalcy” bias and understand that a female terrorist is just as dangerous as a male terrorist. We are brought up in the west to respect life. For all of history, our military has been taught to shoot at a “male” enemy. Times have changed.     What these liberal people who have never been in the military never understand is that the military is not built for equality or anything along those liberal lines. A military is supposed to be efficient. A military is build to DESTROY the ones who endanger our country. There is no equality in war. The military trains for real world situations. Right now, the middle east is the real world situation. Until that is not the issue, then we should keep training our service members to fight middle easterners. These people are morons. You cannot build a war around your military, you have to build your military around war. If these people have problems, then they need to leave the country.

      And who hasn’t seen pictures o 12 year old Palestenian kids (Boys and girls) wih machine guns. The Islamist radicals have no problem puttng their “second class citizens” ie their women out in front of them armed, and dangerous.

      That might not be a bad idea too. Targets made of our favorite left wing female, and don’t forget, male terrorists” Barbara Boxer (holding a defenseless unborn child in her arms with a 45 point at head with cheezie recording saying “Make My Day”); Harry Reid (Counting his cash); Nancy Pelosi (with face lift goatee, for sinister look, babling on like she does, and of course blinking eyes as distraction); Barnie Frank (consuming a Kosher hot dog); Michael Moore (sitting on can); Barbara Streisand (picking her seat as if going to show); Cher (being self); and more, all equiped with their weapon of choice (use industrial strength woopie cushion to simulate the lefts weapon of mass distruction with accompanyiing stench). Let the Seals see if they can take out this low down dirty rabble desinged as targets

    Before I retired from the Police Department our local NAACP complained that the targets we used for qualification were black silhouettes on a white background, thus, racist. Needless to say at that time they were politely told to go pack sand. These “victims” will always complain about something!

      Depends on the ba__s of your top administration. Mine simply changed the targes to blue on a white background. We called them the “smirf” targets.

      We have muslim men dressing in womens muslim clothing to disguise their appearance…
      I say some muscle memory training is definitely in order.
