Photo of Black Student Hitting Pinata Shaped Like White Woman Causes Controversy

The University of Memphis in Tennessee responded after a photo of a group of young black students about to hit a pinata went viral.
The reason for the controversy? The pinata in question was shaped like a white female hula dancer.
Local NBC affiliate WMC-TV reported the photo was taken Thursday during an annual luau-themed campus event to which local schoolchildren were invited.
“It didn’t look right, just because of the social climate we’re in right now,” University of Memphis student Veronica Birmingham, who took the photo, told WMC. “How could somebody be so insensitive and not realize this might cause an issue?”
Birmingham told the station she sent it to a friend, who then posted it on Facebook.
“She said it blew up in seconds,” Birmingham said. “Everybody was like, wow, how did this happen?”
Among the replies, WMC reported, were calls of “reverse racism” and that it sent the message that it’s okay to beat women.
“The photograph taken out of context may be disconcerting, but we want to assure our community that no racial or gender animosity was intended,” read a statement from the university’s residence hall organization, which produced the event.
The school said the activity was “one of numerous activities” held at the luau, and that the hula dancer was one of three pinatas used.

I also find symbolism in the lynching from a tree.
Reverse Racism? Can someone who has not been severely infected with reverse common sense explain what this term means.
This was probably a term conjured up by a progressive committee that coined the phases; learning curve, hate crime and cyber bullying.
At the Rate that our Country has been over-run by foreigners since 1992, I would lay money that caucasians are a minority now, and we are due all these special privileges, and we can Cry about it 24-7, too.

Posted on April 18, 2012 at 9:05pmPrior to me going to teach combatives and boxing at West Point, I had to get my masters in education, and moved to Athens, Ga to attend the University of Georgia. We lived on about fifteen acres in the country, and during one of my young daughters birthdays, my wife invited all the subdivision moms from and their daughters from ballet lessons over for a birthday party.
During the party, my wife put up a pinata of Dora the Explorer. Instead of putting the candy inside the body cavity, my wife put it all in the head. the girls took a broom stick, and whacked away, and busted the pinata, but nothing came out. I figured out the problem, and like all Army Rangers, I carry a tactical folder in my pocket. I pulled my knife, and began to cut Dora’s head off, to get the candy out for the kids. All the subdivision moms from ballet about went into shock over me using a knife on Dora. I told the “hey, you just hung a mexican girl in a tree like a bunch of Klan members, and beat her with sticks, dont look at me funny for cutting her head off.” The subdivision moms sort of avoided us for the rest of our time in Athens.
Lighten up, it is a pinata. I might just get one shapped like Travon Martin this Halloween, and fill it with skittles.

There were many white people in America against slavery before the civil war. The only thing we don’t have is a poll from that time giving percentages for against or indifferent. A historian could survey the number of congregations that were active in the abolition movement, the number of newspapers for or against & such to come up with the number of people for or against slavery. The point is that many people were against slavery & the expectation was that slavery would end & it was not a “calamitous” event.

Save your strength. It is only kids hitting a sack. I imagine it is hard to get a darker one. An animal one would have cause animal righs activists to go off. If they are using little children and indoctrinating them to their deaths, they are the one who has to live with that. I believe that we could read evil into everything. The baiters are cowards, of course, and would use something to mock and stire hatred and strife, but children should be allowed to have fun without politics. It may have been more proper to used a bag without features, but then someone would go crazy over the color it was. To heck with them, if they were or not, because anyone cowardly enough to do this is no threat.
