Official: Charlie Sheen in Psych Care After Drunken Hotel Hijinks

NEW YORK (AP) — Charlie Sheen was hospitalized Tuesday for a psychiatric evaluation after a woman told police he was throwing furniture and yelling in his hotel room, a law enforcement official said. His publicist blamed an allergic reaction to medication.

Police were called to The Plaza by hotel security at about 2 a.m. and Sheen appeared highly intoxicated, the official said. The actor was not arrested and went voluntarily. The official was not authorized to speak publicly about the encounter and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

Sheen’s publicist Stan Rosenfield said the 45-year-old was expected to be released Wednesday.

“Charlie had an adverse allergic reaction to some medication and was taken to the hospital,” he said.

Police haven’t received any complaints from the hotel about any possible damage. A message left with the historic hotel at the foot of Central Park wasn’t returned.

Sheen, the star of CBS’ “Two and a Half Men,” has had problems with alcohol and drugs in the past.

In August, he pleaded guilty in Aspen, Colo., to misdemeanor third-degree assault after a Christmas Day altercation with his wife, Brooke Mueller Sheen. Prosecutors dropped more serious charges and he avoided jail time and he was sentenced to 30 days in a rehabilitation center, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management.

Mueller Sheen, who is the mother of twins with Sheen, told police that the actor threatened to kill her and brandished a knife after she told him she wanted a divorce. Charlie Sheen said they argued but he denied threatening her, and he told police that he was upset by the divorce threat.

He previously went through a bitter divorce and custody battle with Richards. Her publicist said Tuesday she had no comment on Tuesday’s hotel encounter.

In December 1996, Sheen was charged with attacking a girlfriend at his Southern California home. He later pleaded no contest and was placed on two years of probation.

In 1998, his father, actor Martin Sheen, turned him in for violating parole after a cocaine overdose sent him to the hospital. He was ordered to undergo a rehabilitation program.

Sheen is also the star of films such as “Platoon,” ”Wall Street“ and ”Hot Shots!”

    I guess all the happiness in the world, isn’t necessarily all the happiness in the world. Or, maybe it‘s success isn’t everything. But then again, it’s nice to know that even the most famed, i.e. “famous” must still come to terms and maybe admit that they may be powerless over alcohol, addiction and need to seek their “higher power”, seeking His will who governs all truth!     My God My God,how many millions of our sons and daughters must go thru this drug/alcohol spiral. So sad that given all the goodies life has to offer he still has that empty hole that he cannot fill with drugs,hookers,booze. Try one more time, lock him up for six months. If that doesn’t clear his mind…well oh well.

    PEOPLE leave Charlie alone. At least he doesn’t hide his screw ups. I once had a manager who was an uppity at his local church. He traveled to work with me in another state. This guy could not wait to hit the adult book store, strip joints, bars, and play with the hookers. Back at home he was a church going goody two shoes. Wonder how many of these two facers are out there.

      good point RFYCOM, but how many times did this guy you traveled with get nailed with blow, hookers, drove 2 cars off of cliffs, and been arrested so many times he can’t count them on his fingers.

      I also know many churchgoers as well and if many of them did the same thing that Charles has done they would find themselves dead or in the jail cell. What is keeping him out of big trouble is not faith or lack thereof, it is about how much Cash and celebrity he has under his belt..

    I really hope that things work out for him. He has beautiful children that will be counting on him.
    I always have liked his father, and his brother’s acting talents too. But, because they have been blessed with talent; this unfortunately, can make them prime targets for rumors. I always keep this in mind, when reading anything about celebrities….especially politically vocal ones.

    I’m so sick of hearing about all these Hollywood losers. If it isn‘t Lindsey or Paris it’s Charlie Sheen. I could care less if they all drank or drugged themselves to death. It‘s their choice and if the families don’t like it lock them of for a year or two. Better yet, ship them out of the country.

    I hope he finally gets the treatment he needs. I’ve always liked Charlie Sheen – he seems like a good guy, but the booze and drugs will bring out the worst in a person. He did a stunt in my neighborhood in Virginia Beach while filming his movie ‘Navy Seals’
