Officials: Violent Restaurant Melee Appears to Have Been Protester Attack Against White Supremacists

Chicago officials say a violent melee in a suburban restaurant Saturday afternoon appears to have been the work of radical protesters targeting suspected white supremacists, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Witnesses said up to 18 young people wearing hooded black jackets wielded metal bats and hammers against a group of 12 to 20 diners at the Ashford House Restaurant in Tinley Park, Ill. Ten people were injured, three of whom were hospitalized.

Police had said Saturday the attack did not appear to be a random act of violence or related to the ongoing NATO summit protests in Chicago. Instead, law enforcement said the assailants seemed to target the group, all of whom were visiting from out of town.

On Sunday, Mayor Ed Zabrocki told the Tribune that police believe the attackers were from a group called the Anti-Racist Action, which describes itself as being “on the front lines of the struggle against fascism and oppression.”

The group took credit for the attack in a posting on its website, claiming it had disrupted a white nationalist meeting:

On Saturday, May 19th a group of 30 anti-fascists descended upon Ashford House restaurant in the Chicago suburb of Tinley Park where the 5th annual White Nationalist Economic Summit and Illinois White Nationalist Meet-and-Greet was taking place. The White Nationalists were targeted inside the restaurant and physically attacked, causing several injuries and completely shutting down their meeting. The anti-fascist group was privy to anonymous inside information. This fascist event had been in secret planning for six months. The attendees have attempted to cover up the true intent of the event with mainstream media reports initially reporting the white nationalist conference as a wedding party and then as an Irish heritage meeting. The event was advertised on www.stormfront.org, an established white nationalist fascist internet forum.

 

A law enforcement source told the Tribune several of the victims did have ties to a white supremacist group; Zabrocki said police were still trying to sort out the exact links.

Five people were arrested in connection with the attack, WMAQ-TV reported.

Witness Lauryn Drozd told the station she was attending a wedding shower when the assailants rushed in and started attacking people.

“They had their hoods up, long sweatshirts on. I mean, you didn’t see any — I didn’t see hair color or anything,” she said. “Everybody was just screaming. They weren’t saying certain things or anything like that. There was so much going on you couldn’t hear everybody talking.”

A long-time waitress, who declined to give her name, described the incident to the Tribune as “the scariest frickin’ day of my life.”

Restaurant owner Mike Winston told the newspaper the victim group had made a reservation for an Irish heritage group, but the waitress said she thought it was odd that none of them seemed to know each other or speak with an Irish accent.

One employee of the restaurant told the Tinley Park Patch “tables were being thrown and chairs were broken.”

“Then they were gone. They flashed in and out. They had people waiting for them outside,” the employee said.

      Well for one, we DO know that it was a white supremacist meeting–it was ADVERTISED on stormfront.com, which 1) Is probably right up your alley, and 2) Is one of the largest pro-fascist and white supremacist websites currently on the web. So yeah, PRETTY reasonable conclusion that it was a bunch of fascists.

      And secondly, I don’t think stuff like this should be LEGAL–you are correct that it leads down a dangerous slippery slope. What I DID say, is that white supremacists getting a small dose of what they advocate is not lamentable or unfortunate by any stretch of the imagination. Yes, we should try to prevent it, and yes we should try to catch the perpetrators, but that doesn’t mean they are “victims”–the real victim here is law and order, not a bunch of fascists who got exactly what they want.

      No dingbat, it was NOT deserved. They were sitting in a restaurant, peacefully. God forbid people could peacefully dine at a restaurant and discuss matters relevant to our people. It’s not as if they were creating civil unrest like how other did, or are still doing, in Chicago this very moment. You’ve got Communists arrested for attempted terror plots, businesses getting smahed up, trillions in debt, jobs getting shipped over seas, illegals storming across the border, soldiers getting beaten and killed overseas and RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA (look into it) and yet you want to complain about a small group of “White Supremacists” having a casual and peaceful conversation and meal. Peaceful conversations, with expressing concern over the very same issues that affect many of you right here, yet that doesn’t make you “supremacists”, and understandebly so.

      The point that seems to be missed in your diatribe is that in THIS country, citizens are entitled to think and believe as they choose.

      Even stone racists (of any skin tone) puppy-eaters and pedophiles are free to believe whatever they like.

Certainly sounds like an open and shut hate crime and would have been treated as such if it were the other way around.       The only person here I can feel bad for is whoever had to clean up the mess. The Tribune says the cops picked up one of the victims of the attack for outstanding child pornography warrants. I probably wouldn’t want to talk about politics with these people, but my family lost a few people to the Germans… so I can’t completely condemn beating up child-pornographers who like to get dressed up like Hitler on the weekends.

      Meanwhile the targets of their attack were about a dozen members of the Illinois European Heritage Association, a group linked to the “White Pride” group Storm Front.

      Two of these victims were also caught up in the police investigation following the incident: Steven Speers of North Dakota was arrested on an outstanding warrant for possession of child pornography and Francis Gilroy of Florida was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

      Yet not one word of condemnation for the group that tried to beat those people’s brains out. And we still don’t know who either group was, but the condemnation goes to the victims as if their beating was justified, because they MIGHT have ties to a racial group?

      I was curious why the didn’t have a FBI agent at that meeting, since they monitor all pro-white groups, I’ll bet you $20RM – Reichsmark, they had a undercover agent at that meeting, and he did nothing to stop beating, so not to blow his cover.

      Notice how the national news dropped this story after the first hour of it happening, of course the victims are white.

      The FBI probably not only had an undercover agent at the meeting, but I think it’s safe to say they knew of the attack beforehand, because these radical leftists I’ve since learned are pretty well-known to issue death threats.

    i was in the area when it happened yesterday. i live near to the restaurant. i was with some college friends for a get together and we immediately heard that a wedding party had been beaten about an hour after it was over. i tend to think that this is very much linked to the craziness going on in chicago because we all attend IIT right in the center of the crap.

    one of the guys who came down from college to meet up said he was searched 3 times because “a bomb was supposedly in a backpack like his” according to one of the cops whip searched him. this with all the other stories that i heard of gangs of college aged kids from out of town causing problems in bridgeport and in bronzeville make me question whether or not the attack was random.

    a lot of the local people i have talked to seem to think that this has come as a side effect of the NATO talks. whether or not it was actually linked is not the thing that matters. the fact is that this Nato thing didn’t have to be in chicago and it set the stage for violence.

      no, thats not at all what i said. if you do a little reading on NATO, these meeting traditionally happen in belgium out of the public eye where they are less likely to cause a fuss. but because this somehow benefitted the obama campaign to bring Nato here during an election year i and all my friends have had to deal with an inordinate amount of aggravation.

      I’m not even going to try to guess – my point is that in the “news,” the truth is seldom as it appears. Since this story falls nearly squarely in the category that gets buried by the msm, I doubt we’ll learn more. What little information we have seems to be missing most of the vital details.

      Sounds like a good idea to me, but in Chicago the 2nd Amendment null and void, with no right to carry a concealed weapon. Thats why these thugs were so brazen. They knew it very likely no one would have means to resist their assault. Down here in the South, there would be at least a chance someone would be armed.     Any time there is a group that does that to another, there will be retaliation by the ones attacked, if there is no legal recourse. They should always be prepared to defend their turf from intelopers. Know when you gather that there will be likely some disruptors and do what you can but with legal restraint all that is possible. Do what it takes to insure your safety. Be right, do right and be prepared to take care of yourselves in the event of emergencies. If the law does not see fit to investigate and hold those responsible who attacked the party, then people will have to take care of business if there is no legal recourse. Most people are willing to abide by the law, but the law enforcement must be willing to keep the law and promote and enforce the laws they are paid to enforce. It seems the party was there doing their own business. No one had a right to disrupt and promote violence on those people.
