CNN:
An Ohio priest is heading to rehab, his lawyer said, after his drunken, profanity-laced rant from inside a jail cell wound up on YouTube and went viral.
The Rev. Ignatius Kury has taken a leave of absence from Holy Ghost Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church in south Akron and plans to enter a clerical rehabilitation center in Maryland next week, his lawyer told CNN.
Yes, Kury has seen the video of himself, and it‘s clear he’s drunk, attorney Walter Benson said.
“He’s an extremely intoxicated priest. I don’t think being a priest saves you from the affects of alcohol,” he said. “He’s feeling horrible. He’s unbelievably remorseful for his actions. He’s trying to be proactive to address the issues that he has.”
Kury, 35, was arrested last Sunday on suspicion of operating a vehicle impaired after driving his car off the road and failing a field sobriety test, Sgt. Chris Adkins of the Brimfield Township Police Department said.
When he was brought back to the police station, Kury blew a .203 in a breathalyzer test, well beyond Ohio’s legal limit of .08, according to a police report. While he was handcuffed to the wall in a temporary holding facility, he exposed himself, prompting an officer to videotape his actions.
That’s when Kury launched into a irate, occasionally tearful jail cell sermon touching on a wide variety of topics, from Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Palin to Libya and patriotism, as he demanded to be released.
“Christ on the cross, you got these shackles on me,” he said. “I’ll give you the sermon on the mount, your sermon on the mount is this: get this f-–g bars off me ‘cuz I’m getting a rash.”
Read the rest here.
The Blaze first told about the arrest on Thursday.

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 12:10pmThis guy is in the grip of the Devil (booze). I don’t believe throwing him into a rehab with other priests will work because most of them are drunks first and priests second. The Catholic Church, not Christianity mind you, is a magnet for and the safe haven of miscreants!

Posted on June 7, 2012 at 11:31amHow is it any more or less a safe haven? That’s a stupid statement. I‘ll bet you that there’s just as many miscreants in any religion.

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 9:51amI don’t know, JZS makes some pretty good points. Y‘all do take every opportunity to run down the entire Muslim population with individual Muslim’s who deviate from the main stream Islamic faith. We have all seen plenty of hypocritical Christians. Posted on June 7, 2012 at 1:38pmEvery point is your statement is false. “The Catholic Church is no more.
It’s been taken over by social justice advocates that hide illegal aliens ” Actually, it’s undergoing a rebirth. They could have said that in several periods in History, Just like the Hebrews. 100, the reformation, etc. yet we always come back! Currently there are over a billion Catholics, and the most new priests and nuns are from the more conservative seminaries, convents. There are elements in it that make noise, and the good Catholics are ignored. That‘s why you don’t see them. “Priest teaches traditional teachings and acts wonderful for his parish!” There’s a great headline….
“rape children ” Oh yes. first off, the percentage of priests that have done molestation is actually lower than society at large. Second, there haven’t actually been any cases of pedophilia- it’s actually Ephebophilia- with teenage boys, or as it’s commonly called, Homosexuality.
“and re-write the word of God. It is truly a shame”.We have a very accurate bible- pretty much the same as when it was compiled by the Catholic church in the 4th century. It’s meaning have only been changed sine the advent of Sola Scruptura, (Martin Luther) which means anybody can interpret the Bible for themselves.

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 9:09amThis is why I don‘t ’belong’ to a religion anymore. I was born and raised Protestant. I know one or two bad apples don’t … But I know we should hate the sin not the sinner, but as soon ‘major’ religions stated having openly gay priests and ministers, that was it for me. We can talk about Rev Wright, but how many of your own churches do you go to every sunday that are ordaining ministers and having gay ceremonies. The Bible CLEARLY says it is an abomination. If major religions can‘t follow their ’own’ bible…I’m not gonna follow them.

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 7:14am“clerical rehabilitation center” ?? What is that? A regular rehab would not do? How very hollywood of the church.
“That guy seems gay, very gay, very very gay, better check his car trunk for little boys.”
I agree. And always remember, any place you have large groups of strictly children, or men, or women, you have gheys and sexual predators. Period. This guy should be held for questioning. I don’t believe any religion allows gheys except modern hollywood false churches. Hold bad behaviour accountable, this guy should no longer be a priest, if investigated, more than likely never should have been a priest at all. This could be said about a lot of priests, with all the stories of child abuse here and there, they get a pass. People give everything a pass now, the churches are in the same boat as this country, people lose there way and the predators come in to take over. Start cutting them lose! Same with politicians.

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 1:40amI can’t believe the guy pleaded not guilty when the police had such damaging video evidence. After three drunk driving arrests and exposing himself to the police, the man should be unceremoniously discharged from his career as a priest. I see no reason why his parishioners should pay for his legal defense or his treatment.
That guy needs to move on and work on his problems in a career where people do not look to you as a moral authority. After he gets his act together and maintains his sobriety for few years, he could possibly be a good drug / alcohol abuse counselor in prisons or homeless shelters.

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 12:33amHe is a priest, not a saint. Priests are human, just like the rest of us, and sometimes end up going down the wrong path. He obviously needs professional help and will surely be getting it now.
While I don’t condone his drinking excess, I do pity the ridicule he will face the rest of his life thanks to the world-wide publicity. We don’t know if he was over-worked, pushed-to-the edge, compassionate, kind, or any other attribute. All we see is that he has a drinking problem. It does not tell his whole story, nor is it any of our business.
All I can say is he who is sinless should cast the first stone.

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 1:04amYet another example of Christians behaving badly. Using the the Blaze logic that any reprehensible action or statement by any Muslim represents the other billion Muslims in the world I’ll say this: all Christians are drunkards. All Christian pastors like to abuse little boys. All Christians protest the funerals of dead soldiers because of of DADT or would if they were in the neighborhood.
Why is it you are so willing to take an example of a Muslim behaving badly, and assume that a quarter of the world’s population is exactly like them, and yet so easily dismiss weirdo Christians as not representative of the religion?

Do you think this priest was drinking and driving in the name of his religion ?
Have you noticed that anytime a muslim is accused or prosecuted for jihad , it is taken as an attack against islam itself, by muslims themselves ?
In the case of this priest, did you hear of any Christian group coming out to condemn his arrest as an attack on Christianity ?

Posted on March 6, 2011 at 9:17amThe fact is there are lots of individuals who are ministers in all the Christian faiths who probably should be in a different line of work, but I don’t know if Rev. Kury is one of them and it would be unfair to judge him based on a few seconds of video. As the attorney said, when someone gets extremely intoxicated, they do and say really stupid things. How many of us know that first hand? The appropriate thing to do is to pray for his successful rehabilitation.

All the nut job Christians get pointed out and exposed (which is fine it should happen) yet the nut job Muslims get defended. Why is this? The nut job Muslims tell the world they want to take it over and make you one of them, or die. I think that is a lot more scary than a drunk Christian. I’m not even Christian but i feel like I should point out the hypocrisy.
