Oklahoma Legislator Authors Bill Outlawing Use of Aborted Fetuses in Product Manufacturing Industry

Ralph Shortey Introduces Oklahoma Bill Outlawing Use of Aborted Fetuses in Food IndustryA shockingly strange bill has been introduced to the Oklahoma Legislature to prohibit “the manufacture or sale of food or products which use aborted human fetuses.”

The bill was introduced late last week by Republican State Sen. Ralph Shortey and first noticed by the Oklahoma State University college newspaper The Daily O’Collegian:

“Ralph Shortey (R-Oklahoma City) authored Senate Bill 1418, which effectively bans the selling or manufacture of food products that contain aborted fetuses or which used aborted fetuses in the development of their ingredients.”

The state senator told KRMG that he’s done research and found reports that companies have used stem cells in the research and development of food.

“I don’t know if it is happening in Oklahoma, it may be, it may not be.  What I am saying is that if it does happen then we are not going to allow it to manufacture here,” Sen. Shortey told the radio station. What the senator told the station next may get you sick.

“There is a potential that there are companies that are using aborted human babies in their research and development of basically enhancing flavor for artificial flavors,” says Shortey.

KRMG notes that some have accused that the proposed bill is a back door attempt to ban stem cell research. Shortey told the station it is not, but said he would support and vote for a ban on stem cell research in the state.

While food makers have denied the claims, NPR’s Bill Chappell speculates that Shortey may have gotten the idea from a boycott directed at PepsiCo which has worked with Senomyx:

“Based in San Diego, Senomyx has been accused of using proteins derived from human embryonic kidney cells in its research, which has been used by many large food companies. An article in the Miami New Times summarizes those claims, notes the company’s denial of them — and also notes that in 2003, the company filed a patent for ‘recombinant methods for expressing a functional sweet taste receptor.’

That patent, for what is essentially an automated taste test, was granted in 2008. It mentions HEK 293, or Human Embryonic Kidney 293, a widely available cell line that was originally cultured in the early 1970s from a human embryo in the Netherlands.”

Perhaps Shortey noticed a British midwife that has made recent news for making, and then selling back, vitamin pills made from a new mother’s placenta within a few hours of a baby being born. The Daily Mail writes that some of the benefits of consuming placenta are said to include enhanced breast milk production and a reduction in the risk of post-natal depression.

KOSU reports that Shortey’s bill was one of hundreds submitted just before the state’s Thursday deadline for legislators to get their bills entered for discussion in the upcoming session, which runs from Feb. 6 into late May.

This is absolutely true. The latest press release was sent out to all media today – get the facts at http://www.cogforlife.org/oklahomasenator.htm From the posts I am reading there are some who know about this, some who don‘t and some who don’t believe it. I don’t blame you – its disgusting and unnecessary. From the main page of our website you can click on the press releases we have issued since March 2011 – including the filing with the Security and Exchange Commission against PepsiCo. Read it and weep… http://www.cogforlife.org – then get behind Senator Shortey!

This is a big driver of the crown pushing “choice”. The market for selling these ripped up kid’s parts and tissue is huge.

If there is a law that all aborted fetal tissue must be destroyed, it will cut abortions by at least 50%.

And they are getting it all for free, and collecting the $$ for the abortions on top of that.

Waste of Taxpayer dollars. I was a surgical nurse who worked in the operating room for 20+ yrs. Iam against Abortion but their medical waste has never been sent anywhere to any specialty group unless a woman agrees to be part of some sort of research. (Medical research projects are very heavily regulated and the paperwork is immense.) D & C’s are also done for a miscarriage sometimes, but Normal POC or products of conception are disposed of with the rest of medical waste, tissue, blood etc. The author of this bill is making over the top ridiculous claims and wasting tax payer dollars. Over regulation goes both ways. Dont fall for the trick.

Is this the same crowd that screams that there is too much government regulations and company’s for the most part want to do the right thing. How do you categorize this behavior as being any different than the Natural Gas Industry that rather than clean the fracking water they lace with chemicals, they want to pump it down into the ground causing earthquakes and poisoning the ground water. But hey that just causes cancer in kids at rates similar to Toms River NJ, where the company argued their decades of dumping chemicals into the water table didn’t cause cancer rates that were 10 times higher than the national average.

This Oklahoma bill is addressing an existing problem, and is worthy of attention. Perhaps Oklahoma citizens who are cognizant of the embryonic stem cell derived technologies can assist with the language of the bill and regulations stemming from it.

http://cogforlife.org/fetalproductsall.pdf Cogforlife.org has been tracking the production of medicinal, vaccine and food products cultured, produced or tested using embryonic stem cell derived technology. The group monitors which cell lines are utilized, and the origins of those cell lines.

http://www.neostem.com/ Neostem is an adult stem cell research corporation which is committed to obtaining the benefits of adult and umbilical cord stem cell usage while avoiding the ethical liability of using tissue from purposely killed humans.

It is very scarey these days as people no longer know what is in their food or their pet’s food. I read all labels and try my very best to not consume products with artificial flavors, preservatives or that come from China or Mexico or any other third world country. I also buy local and organic as much as I can.

These giant mega food manufacturers and chemical companies are destroying our food supply. From the unknown chemical preservatives and the unnamed natural or artificial flavors in food products, GMO’s that are unnatural combinations of species and chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides that contaminate the food plus pollute and destroy our soil, water sources, bees and other helpful insects, now this….. people no longer eat food that nourishes our bodies or works in balance with nature. Our food is becoming poison.

However, this story and the actions of this state Senator demonstrates what is fundementally wrong with our government. He has introduced a bill in his state legislature without fully knowing what he is talking about, if the claim is true or if there is actually a problem in his state. He even admits he does not know. I guess it make good headlines and great campaign stump speech material.

This is one of the things that really ticks me off about Republicans anymore, they complain about excessive regulations then pass more regulations. My head is dizzy from all of their inconsistencies.

I would go one step further, I never understood how abortion could have ever been acceptable, there shouldn’t have to be any law saying that we can or cannot terminate a pregnancy, it shouldn‘t be something that ever entered one’s mind. We need a significant moral shift in this world and the only way that is going to happen is either a mass revival or the return of Jesus

Do you realize that you started out life AS A FETUS? What’s next, WE ALREADY HARVEST DONATED ORGANS FOR TRANSPLANT, SHOULD WE BECOME LIKE THE NATIONS WHO HARVEST THEM FROM PRISONERS AND DISSIDENTS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO FUTURE AND MAY AS WELL BE DEAD AND THEIR ORGANS MAKE MONEY AS GOING TO WASTE AS $’S ARE SPENT TO KEEP THEM IN PRISONS? In obamacare, the death panels would determine whether it’s fiscally responsible to give someone a treatment or surgery based on whether they can again be a “CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF SOCIETY”! WE’RE ALREADY PUTTING A $ VALUE ON HUMAN LIFE! IS IT NEXT TO DECIDE WHETHER SOMEONE IS OF VALUE ACCORDING TO WHETHER THEY‘LL WORK WITH THE GOVERNMENT OR IF THEY’LL THROW A STICK IN THE WORKS OF THE GEARS OF GOVERNMENT? If so, WHY WAIT TILL THEY GROW UP AND BECOME DISSIDENTS, WHY NOT HARVEST THEM AS FETUS’ AT ABORTION CLINICS AND LET THE CLINICS SELL “THIS TISSUE” TO BRING SOME FINANCIAL GAIN TO THESE CLINICS?

People shouldn’t say anything about this law until they read the history of the Nazi party. They were using used human skin for lamp shades and no body said a word. So don’t be so quick to jump on the band wagon to say anything about outlawing something before it does. You just never know.

ia used in the chicken pox vaccine.
There was an interesing article associated with THETRUMPET.COM which gave the numbers of legal abortions done in this country as over 50 million. Shocking!

In the nearly 40 years since Roe v Wade, it’s at least in excess of 53 million abortions, which is a very sad testament to what this country has become. Those on the left have been pushing for the increased utilization of embryonic stem cells as opposed to adult stem cell research, the former of which has yielded no medical breakthroughs since the inception of research. We’re already partway down this slippery slope. What’s next, soylent green? I guess we all know how wedded to the concept of “green” those liberal, progressive statists are.

I had heard of this on Liberty Radio and I decided not to buy Kraft salad dressing, A1 sauce nor new Pepis products. There were a couple of other companies also that got in with this outfit and then backed out. Buy the way A1 sauce is my favorite but this imformation made me sick. They should be required to lable the products that use this taste enhancer. No one whould buy it if they knew.

It sounds like you may be misunderstanding what is going on. The cells are grown in labs, and were never part of a human. The cells did originally come from a fetus in the early 70′s, but those are ancestors to the cells use by this company. The cells aren’t used in the products, they are used in a test that tells computers if they have a positive or negative reaction to the taste. If it is positive, humans taste the product, which does not contain any of these cells. Hope that clears things up.

NICK84, morally and ethically, the cells would not exist had they not come from an unborn child. Research demand is now a factor in the market for aborted children. I don’t care how one sanitizes and rationalizes murder no matter how many degrees of separation from the initial act: It is still evil.

      Melvin Spittle-

Regardless of your views on abortion, you should stand against ignorance. The fact is, people on this site seem to believe that these cells are being put into food products, which is false, as they are only used in testing.

I am curious about something though. If this cell line didn’t originally come from a fetus, but an adult human, would you be opposed to them being used?

And that is why my dog only receives American made Blue Buffalo dog food made from human grade products. It costs double what other food costs, but I know it won’t cause my dog to get cancer or lead a shortened life. My parents have consistently fed their dogs Ol’Roy dog food and they consistently get oral cancer. So far, the number is 3. If you don’t see the correlation between such things, then you are bound to suffer the consequences. Alot more people are taking note now and the importers know it. They are starting to label Chinese made dog food and treats with highly American names like Bar-W-Ranch or some BS hoping that you don’t look at it to see that it is made in China. Also, anyone else know how they dehydrate chicken for the chicken treats? Lets just say it involves alot of caustic chemicals that you otherwise would not want to eat. Oh, and they also use this method to prepare most dried fruit. Apparenlty heat and air flow aren’t fast enough in a commercial application anymore.
