Old Gold? 10 Vinyl Records That Could Be Worth $1,000 Or More!

Pay attention to that box of old records at the yard sale. There may be a small fortune lurking among the dusty old recordings.

According to moneymusic.com’s Mighty John Marshall, there are at least ten vinyl records that could be worth $1,000 to $20,000 – depending on their condition and a few very specific factors.

(Bullet points from WOGL-RADIO.)

10. The Supremes: Meet The Supremes LP

Ten Old Vinyl Records Worth At Least $1000

9. Jimi Hendrix: Axis: Bold As Love LP

Ten Old Vinyl Records Worth At Least $1000

  • The key to cashing in here is locating a monophonic or “mono” copy of this album, it can be worth around $2,000.

8. Lynyrd Skynyrd: “Michelle”  - the single version

Ten Old Vinyl Records Worth At Least $1000

  • “Mighty” John Marshall claims that Skynyrd’s first 45″ – “Michelle” is selling for up to $2,000. And that’s the not even the picture sleeve version!

7. The Beatles: “Can’t Buy Me Love” 45″

Ten Old Vinyl Records Worth At Least $1000

  • To cash in on this Beatles single, you must find the record with the picture sleeve. If you do, it could sell for as much as $2,500.

Who would have thought it? I have a box full of 45′s and 33 albums, but none of these. I have the Elvis Blue Christmas album, but a later version. Mine isn’t the red vinyl. Just my luck. A day late and a dollar short.

I just saw today a 1960s Alladan Tin lunch box of the Beatles with thermos priced at $695.00 in high grade condion. Very rare item I had not seen before that combines 2 big collecting catagories Rock & Roll memorobilia and lunch boxes . Even common lunch boxes are very hard to find in near mint condition without dents and scrapes around the edges and there are a lot of rare ones from obscure TV series….Something else to look for at yard sales, but you would need a lot of room shelf space to collect in quantity.

This article is such nonsense. I’ve been collecting lps for more than 2 decades, and I know that they are absolutely worthless. This is like holding up the first Superman comic and telling me comics are still worth something. Very few are worth a damn. If you have something like the first Beatles, Supremes or Superman, and it’s in perfect shape, AND you find an interested party…good luck!

I have to agree with that. I had many many 1960′s records my parents had and I was told they were maybe 10 bucks at the very very most! And it ranged from Elvis christmas to Frank Sinatra first cut editions. I usually get at least 3 different places and all of them basically said not worth much. :o(

Hey you guys! With your tales of losing your trading cards, comic books and other items of value,
my son will be feeling the pain soon if he doesn’t collect his stuff which we have held in storage
for over 20 years. Now, that he has his own house, there is no need for us to hold on to them.
    Collect or regret.

Still have some old 45‘s and a number of 33’s, but don’t think I have any that would garner this
kind of money. Have heard from some in the music scene that the old vinyls have a better sound
than those from CD‘s and that’s why some prefer them. Including old 78′s too, scratches and all.

Wonder what a first edition album of Caruso is worth these days (78′s)? Or the Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” Album (78′s)? How about the “Hot Nuts” on 33? “Music to Scare the Hell Out of Your Neighbors?” I‘d have to sift through a century’s worth of old records to recall what else I have.

Listening to Jimi Hendrix “are you experienced” at the moment. It’s a crazy cover. Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding are on the right and left of Jimi as he stands in his eye ball jacket. I wonder what year the reprise 6261 was released?

Wonder what this is now worth? When James Brown was released from Jail, he gave a late night cable concert ‘live’ on TV, as a publicity move to regain his fan base of support and resurrect his standing as a mainline entertainer in the world of music. It was a rare event and a one time production. I knew it was coming on, so I had the time to set up my system to record the event in Super High Definition with my Mitsubishi U-80 that recorded in a quality that was equatable to what is now know as almost 1080p or better than a 720p HD level. I have never seen this show aired again, or even mentioned. I have never seen a DVD of it or a VCR recording made available of it. It has hardly ever been mentioned at all, but it was one of his greatest shows ever and one in which he had to prove himself to the audience watching, that he belonged once again in the music business. James Brown was out to prove himself as one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived, and in that ‘live’ show he did just that. So, I wonder what the original taping of this event may be worth in the marketplace?
I may have the only copy of it ever made?

You may have the only copy but I don’t think you own the rights. Trying to sell something you don’t own – not a good idea.

$24,000 dollars. Now that is what I call the Right Kind of Change.

Years ago, my Mom (now 100) decided that the hospital needed my bound, from day one, Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines, Good Will needed all of my 45′s (Including Strange Love by the Native Boys) and all of my baseball cards went to a lucky buyer at a neighborhood garage sale (including my Mickey Mantle rookie card). I still love her, but I still have to go to work every day, too.

I feel your pain! In the 80s, while I was in the Navy, my mom had a yard sale. My comic book collection -built over the span of more than a decade and including rare editions dating back to before WWII- went for a quarter a piece. How do I know? The ones that weren’t sold all have 25 Cents written on the cover in marker…

Your pain is felt by me also. My entire baseball card collection dating back to 1938 through 1952 was trashed by my Mom when I enlisted into the USAF in 1953. I also had about 200 Comic Books from the 40s including some original Superman and some original Archie. Other trivia included a Tom Mix secret code ring from 1944…..all gone.

Keep in mind these are exceedingly rare records and are not available on CD. Most of the 100 billion record albums in the world are barely worth a dollar retail. The best area where you might find value are in old jazz records that haven’t been remastered or digitized. There’s a small but active community of jazz enthusiasts out there.

I had “Can’t Buy Me Love” without the sleeve, but some POS thief stole all my Beatles 45′s in a not-so-secure security locker when I lived in an apartment and was single. I HATE thieves and liars. Probably part of my disgust with Obozo.

The Beatles album was my favorite, however, my little niece decided to put “red-mustaches” on the boys..I just laughed because the record was still good to play. A few years ago I “donated” to the Salvation Army all of my albums, 45′s, 3 turntables and my 8-track’s & 8-track player.I have a large collection of cd’s of all music that were on my “old-collections”. However, there is one song that I could never find on a cd that was on a 45 I gave away and that is the song “Sugar-Shack”. I go to You-Tube alot and did find the song there. I pray who-ever has all the old songs by way of the 45′s etc. enjoy the old-turn-table etc. Personally, I like the convenience of the cd’s. The I-Tune thing isn’t my bag. Sure wasn’t fun when your favorite cassette would “get-chewed-up” in the player..LOL Years ago had a shop “compile” the songs on cassettes to cd’s. It was alittle pricing to do at the time, but well worth it. My original “Thriller” cassette “got-chewed-up” but bought the cd when it came out a few years ago. I do miss one album, “Chicago”, the original group but do have it now on cd’s.
      And the beat goes on!
