The Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy homecoming dance last Friday was a night to remember for one sophomore. After working up the courage to pop the question, World Cup champion and gold medal winning skier Lindsey Vonn agreed to be 16-year-old ParkerMcDonald’s date. Vail Daily on VSSA’s unofficial homecoming queen:
“She was visiting the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy in Minturn, Vonn says on her Facebook page, when Parker whipped up the courage most of us wish we had.
‘Yesterday I visited the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy and while I was eating lunch with all the students a 16 year old boy named Parker asked me if I would be his date for their homecoming dance, which is tonight,’ Vonn wrote. ‘When Parker asked me he was cute, nervous and very polite so of course I said YES! :)’
‘All through school growing up I never got the chance to go to a school dance so I’m excited for tonight!’ Vonn wrote Friday afternoon.”
The 27-year-old Vonn is training in Vail this weekend with the U.S. Ski Team. Vonn has won more World Cup victories than any other U.S. skier, and is a three-time Olympian having won a Gold Medal in downhill at the 2010 Winter Olympics. VSSA is the nation’s first public winter sports academy, where students in grades 6-12 can train six days a week in the winter.

Posted on November 7, 2011 at 3:56pmWiki says that Lindsey Vonn is MARRIED. There’s nothing cute or sweet about a 27 year old married woman going on a date with a 17 y.o. student. The last time we read about something like this, the adult was standing before a judge for criminal charges. What makes this any better?

Good job, young man. Good taste and guts. And yes, I would venture to say there were plenty of guys in trouble with their girlfriends after the dance.

Report Post »If it was a 20-30 something male athlete who went to a homecoming dance with a high school girl… that would get all sorts of wrong attention – I’m not saying what Ms. Vonn did was wrong… it’s just that there is definitely a double standard here…

Posted on November 6, 2011 at 7:45pmSometimes a person can do something nice regardless of what YOU or someone else thinks their intentions are. She is giving her time and and giving this kid the thrill of a lifetime. If she choose to use this as some kind of self promotion then let her be the jerk but why condemn the act if you honestly have no idea what her intention is?
