LONDON (The Blaze/AP) — As time goes on, Ronald Reagan’s legacy continues to have a profound impact across the globe. Last week, we reported on a new statue that was sculpted in Hungary to commemorate the U.S. president. Now, another statue — this time in London — has been unveiled to honor a true American hero.
Ronald Reagan was hailed as “a great American hero” Monday as his admirers unveiled a 10-foot-tall (3-meter-tall) statue of the former U.S. president near the American embassy in London.
Condoleezza Rice, national security adviser and secretary of state in President George W. Bush’s administration, joined British Foreign Secretary William Hague at the morning ceremony in Grosvenor Square. Below, watch Rice speak at today’s event:
“Statues bring us to face to face with our heroes long after they are gone,“ Hague said ”Ronald Reagan is without question a great American hero; one of America’s finest sons, and a giant of 20th-century history. You may be sure that the people of London will take this statue to their hearts.”
Hague also brought a message from former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Reagan’s staunch ally, whose frail health has made her public appearances very rare.
“She has asked me to say these words to you: Ronald Reagan was a great president and a great man – a true leader for our times,” Hague said.
“He held clear principles and acted upon them with purpose. Through his strength and his conviction he brought millions of people to freedom as the Iron Curtain finally came down.”
The London statue was commissioned by the Reagan Memorial Fund Trust. It joins images of former presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower in Grosvenor Square, and will remain there after the U.S. Embassy moves to a new location.
Rice was in Prague on Friday as the Czech capital renamed a street in Reagan’s honor, and she was in Budapest on Wednesday for the unveiling of a statue of Reagan.
These are among several events this year marking the 100th anniversary of Reagan’s birth on Feb. 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois.

Posted on July 4, 2011 at 12:45pmReagan was the best we have had in many, MANY years, but as good as he was, we should aim for someone that will try to decrease the size of government. The National Endowment of the Arts should go. IRS could be all but eliminated if we used fair tax. Giving control of education back to the cities and private sector would save us all a fortune. Stop subsidizing colleges, they just use it as an excuse to dramatically boost tuition. Do away with the Fed aka America’s counterfeiters. Make collective bargaining for Government unions illegal again. There so much we can do to do to save money and restore freedom…. too many to list here. Vote Libertarian.

Can we send the dumb Bronze mechanical teleprompter reading skinny hollow bust of a President to Kenya for a gift representing Obama family dreams of Marxism? We could get some great corn dolls and beaded necklaces in trade.

Posted on July 4, 2011 at 12:28pmIf anyone is too young to remember, those Reagan years were good years. At the end of his 8 years, there was an overwhelming call to change the laws so we could continue with him. Not because we wanted “one ruler”, but because he shed light on the best of America, and the best in its people. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

Unveiled in London………. not the US how does this happen? This is just another example of the “exits” we are passing by where folks fail to see the bigger picture. Our friends honor great men but here in America we are under a regime that that turns away from great leaders. We saw a clear example when Emp. BHO returned the Churchill bust and how Glenn has demonstrated that those within the regime honor monsters of our past like Mao instead!
Better wake up America, time is running out. http://tinyurl.com/3tg4s98

Thank you for honoring the President, Britian!!

Posted on July 4, 2011 at 4:08pmFrom what I know only an airport in D.C. has this great man’s name attached to it. While I am grateful to Great Britain for recognizing who will always be remembered as the architect of the destruction of the Soviet Union, it disturbs me greatly that at least so far he isn’t remembered so fondly here. But with the likes of our current administration and the one other that followed George H.W. Bush, it might be a very long time before Ronald Reagan is honored at home – without any doubt he’s certainly earned it more than any other president since Abraham Lincoln.

I love your spirit! That kind of energy is rare.
Can you please tell us How Regan “…was a hack”? Explain what you mean by hack because that may mean different things to different people.
As for Regan being “…in Hell”. I don’t want to touch that with a 10-foot pole. Simply, there is no Heaven, no Hell, no God just a bunch of people on Earth using mystical, supernatural beings under threat of damnation to control you (religious people). That is not up for debate, it is just the truth.
Your parents who introduced you to religion (via church) were bamboozled by their parents. It’s a vicious cycle of bamboozling and the Clergy wins.

Posted on July 4, 2011 at 1:26pm@Aaron… I suggest you take a course in world religions to understand the history of religion and it’s role in evolving societies. Most religions temper the self-centered beast within all of us, which allows us to exist in a society. You, my friend, are a benefactor of a society with strong Christian values. Hopefully you appreciate it.
