One of the Best Time-Lapsed Videos of Earth From Space Yet

Unlike the time-lapsed video over Earth we posted a couple months ago, this one seems even closer to the surface giving you an even more spectacular visual experience.
Take a ride:
As Gawker points out, there is so much flying by in this video that you might not know quite what to focus on: the green film that is the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis; the thin yellow line over Earth is the ionosphere; or the webs of light are illuminated cities, to name a few. Check out the full list of locations in order of appearance here.
The video was created from 18 time-lapsed photos from August to October 2011 taken 240 miles up from the International Space Station and put together by Michael König.

@BLACK9897
I would never try and convert someone to my belief system but there is a reason why people do it and I think it’s useful to acknowledge that. Generally speaking a religious person tries to convert an atheist because they believe in an everlasting soul and think they are doing God’s work by helping people get into heaven. Atheists generally would try and dissuade somebody from religion because they think it’s an antiquated superstition that impedes rational, scientific thinking.
Again, it’s not my bag to try and convince people to be like me, but I understand why people do it.

The logic of atheists astounds me, since everyone of them on their death bed is always doing the same thing every time. Crying out to God for forgiveness. There is no such thing as a atheist in a foxhole. All atheists are just egomaniac people who hate there is someone better than them. Too bad they are all crying out his name. There is a reason why all kids growing up have a sense of creation but it it is the misguided parents who confuses the child into their evolution theories. I find it amazing kids before they know anything have creation/reality burnt into their genes already.

Posted on November 14, 2011 at 2:42am@mrbuff1959 Ah, yes. The modern day liberal notion that only a primitive man would have been able to write the best selling book in the history of printing. The same book that would have the most impact and influence in our Western Civilization. And where you alive during that primitive time period, my friend, so that we can take your word as fact and testimony?
No such thing called the bibel was written by God. However, a major event in world history was began by God, that resembles the word Babel.
And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. Genesis 11:5-9.
Perhaps, you are from this time period whereof this “primitive man” originates and are still confused about how to spell the word “Bible” in the English Language?

Posted on November 14, 2011 at 6:36amkeithh1981… Evolution is fact. It may or may not be the way humans arrived on the scene (I believe we evolved), but evolution occurs. Your question would be analogous to asking, “If evolution occurs, why are there so many different types of finches on the Galapagos Islands?” The answer is that evolution can take different paths to design and adapt different lines of the same animal to best cope with a different set of needs.
We needed to adapt to use computers and apes didn’t.

18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Yes, the Holy Bible was written by the hands of men, but it was written by God Himself.
I guess one could argue that editors could have changed it over time, if it wasn’t for those Dead Sea scrolls and Bibles left over from the earliest days of Christianity which prove that with the exception of translation, the Bible is essentially unchanged over at least the last 2900 years.

——————————————————————————————————————————-
I actually agree with your interpretation of species, but it’s also true that man and ape shared a common ancestry about 8 million years ago according to “Aesop’s fables” (theories of evolution). The unfortunate part for evolutionists is that the empire of uniformity has long since been proven to be false. Just as when Darwin postulated the warm pond creating life out of nothing (spontaneous generation) is completely ignored by biological evolutionists now because it’s not simply wrong, but preposterously wrong. Just as natural selection creates a self defeating paradox when witnessing the diversity of species today.
The fossil record claimed by neo darwinites has also been shot full of holes all through every theory of evolution, including Goulds’ Punctuated Equilibrium.
Intelligent Design is the only theory that is borne based on the unchanging, and extraordinarily complex genomes of all species.
Intelligent Design is God calling all things into being simply by and thru his word.

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 8:59pmCool video. One thing to think about is that if the world was the size of the globe in your living room, the atmosphere would be thinner than the paper on the outside of that globe, where all the oceans and continents are printed. That vanishingly small layer of the Earth, supports life on Earth, and keeps the Earth from freezing into a solid block of ice like Mars. Without that paper thin atmosphere, life wouldn’t exist on Earth.
But it works the other way too. If that layer retains too much heat, the Earth would become a furnace like Venus. How does that happen? When greenhouse gasses are pumped in this tiny, tiny layer over the Earth.

Until you can answer that question, and then, develop an accurate computer model to predict all the changes in the atmosphere, solar radiation, magnetic fields and cosmic rays, then maybe we can determine if man is effecting the climate, until then we should stay the hell out of it, and let it be.
Report Post »1casawizard
Posted on November 13, 2011 at 9:40pm@JZS. The atmosphere the size of a globe would be more along the line of 3/16 of an inch from the surface of the globe. The biggest influence of our temperature on Earth is the Sun which gets a little moody at times when it flips magnetic poles. We have recently discovered another type of emission which can influence our temperature. The ball we live on has many yet unknown devices that can influence desirable and undesirable effects on its inhabitants.

And if you think the biggest factor in the changes in Earth’s temperature is sun, I wouldn’t know where to start in a discussion with you. Without an atmosphere containing greenhouse gasses, the Earth would be a block of ice. If we had an atmosphere like Venus, Earth would be an oven. The primary cause of changes in Earth’s temperature is attributed universally by scientists to changes in the composition of the atmosphere.

When he returned to Earth, there was a huge reception in his honor. As his close friend and cosmonaut colleague Alexei Leonov tells it, then-premier Nikita Khrushchev cornered Gagarin “So tell me, Yuri,” he asked, “did you see God up there?” After a moment’s pause. Gagarin answered, “Yes sir, I did.” Khrushchev frowned. “Don’t tell any one,” he said. A few minutes later the head of the Russian Orthodox Church took Gagarin aside. “So tell me, my child,” he asked Gagarin, “did you see God up there?’“ Gagarin hesitated and replied ”No sir, I did not.“ ”Don’t tell anyone.”

Entire continents have been swallowed under other continental plates, the magnetic poles have flip-flopped numerous times, and volcanic eruptions have blotted out the sun for years at a time. I see no perfection there! In a universe that probably contains literally trillions of planetary bodies, at least a few million will harbor intelligent life. Not a miracle, just a statistical probability.

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 11:41pmIt’s debatable that the Earth is perfect, but let’s say it is. Why do you think chance can not produce perfection? If I go to a roulette table in Las Vegas and put all of my money on black, there is a 50% chance of a “perfect” outcome, i.e. I win. I can play numbers or place other types of bets and lower my chances while increasing the payout on my reward, but I there would still be a chance for a “perfect” result.
You might say, “What an idiot! The odds of the Earth forming the way it did is a like lower than winning on black” and you’re absolutely right. But what you’re saying is that there is 0% chance of it happening, and I just don’t know where you draw that conclusion from.
Considering the Infinite Monkey Theorem helps here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_monkey_theorem). You might say that it’s impossible for a chimpanzee to sit at a typewriter and produce, perfectly with no errors, the complete works of William Shakespeare. But given infinite time that is exactly what would happen, eventually. This is why being true to the burden of proof is important because despite how much it may feel right to say that chance could not produce a perfect Earth, if you really reflect on it you will realize that it’s a completely dishonest conclusion.

Posted on November 14, 2011 at 9:36amYes, the universe is beautiful, and earth has been a beautiful home for us humans–so far. But neither is perfect, if by perfect you mean manifestly designed, especially for us, by a beneficent God. The physical universe itself gives no clue as to who the Author of it all might be, if there is one, or what it all means. If you choose to have faith in a God, by all means do so, but stop deceiving yourself that there is any proof to be found in the distance of earth from the sun, or the precise chemical balance of the atmosphere, or anything else in nature that seems tailor-made just for us.

Posted on November 14, 2011 at 1:54pmThat is a classic circular argument. We’re here because everything is right for us to be here. Well duh! How does that ‘prove’ God? How do you know there aren’t countless other planets in the Universe that have life as advanced or more advanced that humans? If they didn‘t have the same Bible as we do would that prove that there isn’t a God?
The answer is that you CAN’T “prove” God’s existence one way or another. That‘s why it’s called ‘faith”.

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 5:33pmI’m of the Star Trek generation (original series in the 60′s). I fully believed that by now, I’d be among the colonists on the moon. What a shame we have no space program anymore.

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 4:43pm“Solar winds stream away from the sun at speeds of about 1 million miles per hour. When they reach the earth, some 40 hours after leaving the sun, they follow the lines of magnetic force generated by the earth’s core and flow through the magnetosphere, a teardrop-shaped area of highly charged electrical and magnetic fields.” IF THAT’S 100% ACCURATE THEN WE CAN WATCH THE NORTH AND SOUTH POLE COLORING TO SEE IF THEY MOVE NEXT YEAR THE WAY SOME PREDICT ON 12/21/2012.
