‘One of the Most Despicable Things You Can Do’: What Made Arianna Huffington Take Romney’s Side Over Obama?

Arianna Huffington Sides With Romney Over Obama on Bin Laden Ad

Liberal commentator and online media entrepreneur Arianna Huffington appeared on CBS “This Morning” Monday, where she took a surprising stance on the so-called “spiking the football” ad focusing on the death of Osama bin Laden, released by the Obama campaign over the weekend.

“I agree with the Romney campaign, that using the Osama bin Laden assassination, killing, the great news that we had a year ago, in order to say basically that Obama did it and Romney might not have done it … .I don’t think there should be an ad about that,” Huffington told the panel, going on to say that she was not opposed to media coverage of the terrorist’s capture and death, “But to turn it into a campaign ad is one of the most despicable things you can do.”

The Obama campaign video in question features former President Bill Clinton applauding President Obama for the death of Osama bin Laden.

“That’s one thing that George Bush said that was right,” Clinton humbly opens the video with. “The president is the ‘decider-in-chief’, nobody can make that decision for you” Clinton says, as the video cuts between photos from within the situation room on that iconic day last May. Clinton says Obama took “the harder and more honorable path, that, in my opinion, produced the best result.“ The video than cuts to a screen that reads ”which path would Mitt Romney have taken?” followed by quotes from Romney insinuating that he would not have made the same call as President Obama.

On NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, top Romney campaign adviser Ed Gillespie called the video and allegation a ”divisive, partisan, political attack.”

“I think most Americans will see it as the sign of a desperate campaign,” he continued.

On Monday, Huffington went on to compare the controversial video to the “3 a.m. call” ad released by Hillary Clinton attacking then candidate Obama during the 2008 Democratic primary campaign.

Huffington said such ads make “politicians and political leaders act irrationally when it comes to matters of war because they’re so afraid to be called wimps, that they make decisions, which are incredible destructive for the country.”

“I’m sure the president would not have escalated in Afghanistan if he was not as concerned, as Democrats are, that Republicans are going to use not escalating against him in a campaign,” she said.

Haven’t seen the add, but I don’t have any issues with the Obama campaign talking about the killing of OBL. It did happen while he was president. BUT, liberals had issues whenever Bush would talk about 911. Good to see Arianna being consistent. If they thought it was wrong for Bush to talk about 911 then it should be wrong for BHO to talk about OBL.

As I said, I don’t have an issue with either one of those… as long as the things being said are honest. And with this president that’s a pretty tall order.

Keep in mind this is the same woman that said conservatives use their lizard brains. She has noticed what a lot of them have and is attempting to look more moderate in case the election rejects BO.

Give Obama 5% of the credit. Obama and Jarrett were still pondering the political implications of to hit or not to hit when PANETTA DECIDED that to wait any longer would risk the chance of a leak and a lost opportunity. So HE gave the go ahead. Obama was on the golf course when he was told about the hit. He came in to view the video……….poor guy, NO MORE CHAIRS AVAILABLE. The video pic will show him on his haunches next to Hillary who was seated.

So Panetta, playing the good soldier, allowed the credit to go to the “boss”.

Now let’s see if this shows up elsewhere on Huff Post or just simply is a blip on the screen. (I AM surprised that Mz. H didn‘t say it was the SEAL’s that did the job, and ANY President who was in office would have given the word to execute (meaning DO the mission) the operation. ANY President. Even the only generally accepted as spineless, Jimmy “Peanut Farmer” Carter. would have given the order.

I’m not too sure I agree with Arianna on this one. Republicans would like you to believe that President Obama is a Muslim, or sympathetic to Muslims. When Bin Laden was killed the right wing, including this website, said there was a military coup. The way the story goes is that President Obama nixed the operation, but the patriotic military went ahead anyway. You guys bought it, as you accept anything you hear that adds fuel to your hatred. You believed that a coup had taken place. But now you’ve erased that from your collective memories. “It never happened,” you say, “that we believed that President Obama tried to stop Bin Ladin’s assassination.”

The Republican agenda is complete. They have a zombie hoard under their control. When they say that Obama is weak on terrorism, you forget all the bad guys he’s killed. And when they tell you to believe that Romney save GM, you believe it. And you’ve forgotten your idea that Obama is ineligible to be President, right?

You don’t see to many birther threads here (have you forgotten those? There must have been hundreds). You believed the birther nonsense then, but now all but a few of you don’t now. The weird thing is that you’ve forgotten that you once believed that President Obama was born in Kenya. The brainwashing took place, you accepted it, and now that the issue has evaporated you not only believe now that the President was born in this country, you’ve forgotten altogether than you ever believe

Catfish777: You’ve almost got it right.

Obama and Jarrett knew of Osama’s “location” since late August 2010. They had been postponing the operation for 8 months because Obama didn’t want to offend the anti-war and Muslim voters/donors. The mission was scrubbed but Hillary, Biden, Panetta and someone from “national security” restarted the clock.

A security leak a month ago says someone was killed in the compound and the body was sent to Dover AFB.

The mission could have been completed with a Predator drone. The Seals were sent in to capture vital intelligence. The intelligence must not have been worth much since the mission was “leaked” to the whole world a few hours later.

On August 8, 2011, a Chinook helicopter crashed in Afghanistan crashed killing 22 Seals from Seal Team 6. The helicopter was brought down by a “lucky shot” from a “Taliban” RPG. The deaths marked Nato’s heaviest loss of life in a single incident in the decade-long Afghan war.

It is easier for you to believe that a far left activist like Huffington, could be changing course, even the slightest, toward conservatism and not that she is OK with Romney? WOW. you guys are really into the MSM aren’t you? I bet all of you would go running up to O’Reilly, Hannity, Beck and the rest begging for their autograph. That is one of the problems with Americans today, they are so starstruck it isn’t funny. I met Clint Eastwood, one time when I was out fishing. He was fly fishing, I stopped and talked with him, he showed me his catch, I showed him mine and we parted company. I never even thought about asking him for his autograph. I believe he liked the fact that I was not stary eyed and fumbling all over him. Wake Up America. Romney might as well be running Democrat. He is not far left, but he is left.

That BHO thinks this was a hard decision tells us about how little commitment he has to protect us, doesn’t it?
The intel that lead to the SEAL’s adventure came from waterboarding – wasn’t BHO against it?
Was the hard decision in his mind caused by having to admit the enhanced interrogations worked and that killing Osama would prove he was wrong again?

Those of us who are old enough to remember the Clinton Era….remember full well just exactly how much Arianna Huffington despised Bill Clinton’s sexual escapades back then. In fact she was on Fox news then as much as anyone left or right ranting and railing about Clinton’s multiple swine-like situations and lying cheating piggery. Although I agree with most of her observations in this piece I am not convinced that she would have been as harsh in her words if Bill Clinton had not been the purveyor of the pathetic. Let it be heard here and around the block…..there are certain things that will tweak an apparent liberal right into a rabies foam session….that’s why they make such poor politicians…they all have to go through an “observation or quarantine” period before touching one of them….as a dog or cat or bat might have to be whenever a human is bitten. Liberals can become rabid in the twinkling of a fake Paula Jones eyelash. Snarling….and growling like wolves do when they twitch and lift up the side of their cheek to show some teeth.

Remember this woman invited Jesse Ventura to submit his comments to her column and when he spoke about 911 being based on lies she censored him.
As for as bin Laden is concerned look up the name “Tim Osman”.
Was kiling bin Laden dispicable? [that is, if he were killed] Considering that he was never indicted for committing “911”, yes it is dispicable.
As far as I am concerned all these jokers in the mainstream media – on the left and on the right [including "The Blaze"], are in on the coverup.
As far as I am concerned it doesn’t matter who get elected [or selected], nothing is going to change – except for getting worse. And I’ve been saying for nearly a year now that the election will be between
Obama and Romney, and as of this moment the powers that be have a preference for Obama having a second term the same way the PTB did in 2004 with Bush over Kerry even though they had to use

I’ll tell you the difference. A commie believes in the destruction of the U.S. and in the destruction of capitalism. Commie’s believe everything should be “GIVEN” to them for free. You’re opine of a progressive conserative, believes in America, and in capitalism. Wants America to excel and be great as it once was, but also believes there should be a safety net to protect those who, no fault to themselves need to be helped. They should be helped and done so with dignity, while those looking for handouts are forced to grow and develop a calling that will allow them to find real employment.

So there, you have your answer.

GWB was a little too progressive and sometimes you are victim of the majority like he had to deal with dimcrat majorities his last two years and the when the Senate switch due to a party change by that rino from North East.

Obama is pro communism which is anti capitalism and is not against the 1%, but they want to chose who the 1% are and the rest of use can stand in lines for bread or whatever the 1% will let us have. Complete or almost complete control over the population. Also notice communism and even working socialism requires population control, notice how dims are so pro abortion. Free regeneration can create free thinking conservatives… anything free will allow opposing points of view and critical thinking, all this is anti Obama and Socialism

Read this article from Boston Globe: http://articles.boston.com/2012-04-30/metro/31478610_1_romney-slate-mitt-romney-massachusetts-governor

Paul is down at this point, but I believe he can get enough delegates to cause a brokered convention. He just needs enough to keep Romney from 1144. You will see in the Boston Globe article, that Paul supporters are picking up delegate spots on Romney’s bound delegate count. If it goes brokered, the second round the delegates can vote for anyone, and Paul supporters are the most loyal. Get it? Do not count Paul out. It is not over. Remember, Warren Harding in 1920, went into the convention with only 39 delegates and came out the victor, why? The convention was brokered, delegates were free to vote for whoever. They ended up giving the delegates needed to Harding on the 10th vote. I think Paul will get it on the second.

      Ron Paul 2012!

Here is another tidbit of info that I came across. Rule 38 of the GOP primary process actually frees all delegates at the convention to vote their conscience on the first vote no matter what a state rule says about bound delegates. http://www.fairvote.org/response-to-a-rogue-convention-how-gop-party-rules-may-surprise-in-201#.T54GZFLOuSr

Would that not be a kick in the butt if Paul was to win on the first round?

13th Imam, You really should try to know what you are talking about when you speak. Libertarian thinking is what started the Tea Party. Small government, balanced budget, low to no income tax, stop fedearl regulations, end the Patriot Act, End the FED, individual liberty, stop policing the world for the UN. Those are the stances of Libertarians, a true conservative stance. Republicans today are like the liberals of yesterday. Ronald Reagan said it best:

“I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals – if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.”

I knew BO would do this and, to be honest, I don‘t see an issue with it and many here already know I’m 1000% against his re-election. Only one thing really matters; the economy stupid. Bush did well after the Gulf War to and folks remember how good Bush had it until Clinton won a few months later. Bathing in past glory is just not enough. It’s always going to be about the economy. So long as gas is above $2.5/gal (and, to be honest, even that’s too high for my book when only a litte more then a decade ago it was less then $1/galllon), folks will hold BO’s feet to the fire. BO’s not done himself any favors either by not backing the Canadian pipe line. Personally, we should be drilling our own oil then I would care less for the pipeline since we have plenty of oil here, but the Democrats are preventing that; verdict is out w.r.t. the Republicans. I don’t really trust either party to be honest. Independent conservative I am and will remain. Despise neo-cons as much as I do liberals. Romney‘s a RiNO but if it’s between the RiNO Romney and the Socialist (well Communist in my opinion) O’Bama, I’ll have to pinch my nose by vise and pull the lever for the RiNO. At least Gingrich (Mr. NAFTA/GATT neocon himself) didn’t get the nod. ‘Nough said. :)

“Facts show that Bush had nothing to do with it.” I beg to differ – Obama retained the so-called “Bush Doctrine” and continued to follow Bush’s lead. If you remember, his campaign promise in 2008 was to scrap the whole mission. When the SEALS located Bin Ladin, they TOLD Obama and gave him the option to approve the kill or no. Obama realized that if he didn’t and the word got out that he allowed Bin Ladin to escape a second time (Clinton did initially) then all of the rumors of his Muslim affiliation would find new life and more than a little evidence. Thanks to Bush’s strategy, Obama is able to take credit for finding and killing Bin Ladin. Like most of Obama’s moves, it backfired with his base and still failed to convince independents and conservatives that he doesn’t hate America, so now he is trying to reinvent himself as a decisive, heroic figure.

Which means information that would not have been obtained following President Obama’s rules for interrogation. Which means if it wasn’t for Bush, OBL would still be sitting in Pakistan watching porn, and you and our president wouldn’t even have his death to brag about.

You don’t just ride into a sovereign country and whack somebody. Terrorism is a crime, not an act of war. OBL should have been arrested, tried, and if found guilty, punished.

Killing him moves the government one step closer to killing YOU when they accuse you of a crime.

Remember, after they assassinated OBL, they murdered Al Awlaki and his 16 year old son, both US citizens. No charges, no trial, no conviction. Totally unconstitutional.
