One Second Filmed Each Day for a Year Shows Seven Minutes of One Person’s Life

A woman named Madeline shot video footage of her life each day for a year with her Canon Powershot and then reduced each day to only one second clips. Compiling all the clips into a cohesive film, she shows us “What Madeline Did in 2011”, which Gizmodo calls a “beautiful reminder that life is the sum of many parts.”

Watch how a little more than one second every day for 365 days adds up to 7:37 minutes of life:

After making and watching the film, here are Madeline’s reflections as written on her Vimeo site:

I love living in LA. I love the friends I’ve made. And I love seeing how much has changed over just one year being here. Sure, I guess now that I see it, I got sick and worked a lot this year (lots of driving, running around doing errands all day). But oh well, it’s motivation for 2012!

Madeline writes that she hopes the video inspires watchers to “treasure every day you get and find the good, beautiful moments in even the worst days”.

That staccato piano really got to me in a negative way. I had to ‘step away’ from this person’s life and continue on with mine.

    Ron Paul 2012!

I thought it was an interesting project. She leads a lot more of an active life then I do. To all the people complaining about the video, at least it gave you all something to talk about. =P

The title of that should have been “a day in the life of some random, useless person with no responsibilities or job”… I maganged to endure the stupidity until febuary 1st and had my fill…

I bet she has a closet full of participation trophies….. You have to be pretty self absorbed to film yourself everyday for a year and make a movie out of it…

Wow, she has lots of fun! Fun, fun, fun. I, on the other hand, work full time, own a business on the side, give over 20 hours a month to charity and continue to be educated, both in the classroom and on the internet. No wonder my life isn’t as full of partying, hanging with friends and goofing off.

I agree. Those of us who work many hours to make ends meet, especially with the dear leader and his ideas “hope and change” can not have the life style showed here. Education especially will give you the chance to sort out truth the BS of the manufactured “truth” seen from our “neutral, unbiased” media, which encinom would like to be held as the 100% real world as described by dear leader.

Encinom is this you George yet again?

What a bunch of jealous haters. So many bitter angry comments on here.

Guess what OLD FOLKS, the young are coming up with a whole different set of beliefs and values, The internet has changed everything!

Havent you ever heard the saying, you cant love someone else until you love yourself? She is loving her life now so that later when she gets weighed down with responsibility, she will love her self making the most of the time she had when she could.

Whats wrong with having fun and Gaining life experience. Maybe she will have enough fun so that in 20 years when some kid makes a similar video, she looks at it and smiles instead of being angry that she never go to do that.

Thats one thing I have learned in my 25 years, just because someone is older does not mean they know more and have a better grasp on whats important and real.

This video is awesome and creative. So can it you jealous closed minded Misers!

I will pray for her and pray that someday her spirituality will emerge.

I am darn grateful I didn’t have video of my life when I was 20! This was prior to gaining my work ethic! I enjoyed the spirit of her film. She gave us just a snip of each day. This is her life now, before marriage and family….she is doing what she wants, and seems happy and not wasting a minute of LIFE! I think that’s the point: No matter what age we are, don’t squander the days with worry. Upon waking, thank God for the new day and take heed. Start something, and then finish it. I thought it was cool. For goodness sake it wasn’t more Jersey Shore! Now, there’s a trainwreck.LOL

No God, No church or community service, no study, no reading. One year of self service. I think she may watch this 20 years from now and say, wow i could have spent that time better. Her video does demonstarte how life is made up of a whole bunch of moments, and those momments make up a life. It is the consequence of what we do with those moments, those decisions that make us who we are and make us accountable to who made us, God. Interesting to watch, made it to July, but sobering in personal reflection.

I have to say that I agree. It was interesting, but I was struck with the childishness of it all. And I don’t think that this woman is an isolated case. I think if we looked at the majority of Americans’ lives in this manner, we would see more of the same. One long string of trying to amuse ourselves. As you said, our lives are made up of moments and we have to use them wisely!

You sound like a whining little beach. Just thought you should know. And on a side note, why should anyone do any kind of charity work when they are already paying for everyone to be provided for in taxes? If you want people to start taking care of one another again, then lobby for the federal gov’t to stop stealing 15% of our income to pay for our grandparents’ retirement and healthcare and end the income tax.

Have you ever done the math on the current FICA tax rates? A person living at the poverty level has ~$1800 a year taken out in FICA taxes. IF that person were allowed to keep their own money and invest that same amount from the time they were 18 to 65 and NEVER got a pay increase but made 8% on average per year from their investment, they would have over $800,000. Social security is a fraud, a Ponzi scheme, and is immoral. And the younger generation who is doing charity by giving up 30-50% of their income to support everyone should not be expected to give even more. God only asks for 10%. And you have the audacity to say we should do more charity?

She may have gotten the idea from this video (link below). A guy took a picture of his face everyday from 2000-2006 and compiled it into a movie and the music is much better. He’s still doing it although he has yet to update the last 6 years in video…maybe that’s being done now.
