One Year After NASA Launches Sun Telescope, Here Are the Incredible Images Captured

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, a space telescope charged with watching the sun in unprecedented detail, revealed its first look at the sun to the world one year ago today.
Since then, the telescope has watched the sun shift from its quietest period in years to the beginning of a new, active solar cycle. It‘s seen loops of plasma that dwarf the Earth tracing the sun’s magnetic field, early stages of massive explosions that send hot charged material ripping through space, and sunspots dancing across the solar surface.
Watch the sun here:
In related mind-blowing space news, did you know that Mars once had a dust-bowl?

How can people go about their lives not believing in the simple truth – they’re not in control!!!! That there is a God – that creates everything in the universe. So many brilliant people that made this possible – and they got the brilliance from where??? Scientists are a gift – true enough! But it’s time for individuals to realize that not everyone is the SAME. Some people can’t be “replaced.” Hence, SOCIALISM DOESN’T WORK. That’s why we have FREEDOM!!! Freedom to sit and read an astrophysics book all day (and understand it)..or to scrub floors all day…do your best no matter what it is!!! Some professions are more valuable! Some people end up richer!
P.S. I’m just a lowly – average NON-UNION member American.

That made me think about separation of church and state. Oh, never mind — a mosque is not a church, is it? Still leaves unanswered why we are reaching out to Muslims when the UOTUS cannot say the word “CREATOR.” And, we’re spending money on mosques overseas, too, aren’t we?

Report Post »On a serious note, NASA has tried several times to get private industries to take over manned flight, the biggest problem is liability, no company will take it over due to the liability issues. As far as research, NASA does a great job with space probes and research satellites, so yes, I am for federal funding because we actually do get a return on NASA research. Where did micro technologies, life-support, advances satellite communications, etc…there is so much technology that comes from the space program that has helped the commercial markets. As far as researching our solar system, studying the sun, looking at possibly how the universe began, to me, that is a good investment with a great return.
Funding a study on mating habits of Smurfs or art exhibits on feces, not much of an investment. But then again, I am not a Republican either, so sorry for skewing your research. By the way, did you get a government grant for your research? Maybe you can do a study on Conservative Smurfs watersports habits at Art Museum

Reagan’s NASA: “America has always been greatest when we dared to be great. We can reach for greatness again. We can follow our dreams to distant stars, living and working in space for peaceful, economic and scientific gain.” ,
BHO’s NASA: “find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good…”

We have a couple of satellites up watching the sun’s activity so that those things can be protected from the effects of solar flares. It wasn’t too many years ago that a good part of the Canadian grid was knocked out by a flare. With warning there are steps that can be taken to minimize damage.

It’s not that important to me because I think it is more important to not become too dependent on those things you listed. Don’t have satellite tv, and never have.. Studying solar flares – AWESOME. Taking gazillions of tax payer money when the country is in debt to do it – DO NOT SUPPORT. Fund it yourself.
How many times have solar flares shut down power for an extended period of time? Not many at all. In fact there is a greater chance to get hit by lightening. Am I saying stop studying them? No. Just stop spending tax dollars on it. When you are out of money….you stop spending. It’s common sense. Why don’t the focus their brilliant minds on paying off the debt first.
