Oops: Anti-Koch Filmmakers Caught Leaving Hot Mic Voicemail — They Eat ‘Scrambled Babies’

It’s no secret that the left loves to demonize Charles and David Koch. But a group of filmmakers behind an anti-Koch documentary may be a little red today after they were caught leaving the brothers a voicemail — a voicemail that was a result of them messing up and thinking they had already hung up.
Business Insider has the details:
Three months ago, Jesse Lava of Brave New Foundation called Charles Koch and left a polite message telling him that Brave New Foundation would soon release its documentary, “Koch Brothers Exposed,” and invited him to watch and respond to it.
“We’re gonna talk about your factory in Arkansas that has caused cancer for a lot of people in the community there. I have a lot of members of my family who died of cancer so it‘s very personal for me and I’d love to know what your response is to our work. Thank you very much. Looking forward to hearing from you. Bye bye.” he said.
After that, he hung up the phone. Or so he thought.
The message was still recording, and Lava could still be heard talking to who is presumably another staffer at Brave New Foundation. The exchange is not too endearing. KochFacts.com, a site run by Koch Industries, posted a recording of the message on YouTube to coincide with today’s release of the documentary.
So what did they say on accident? How about that the Koch brothers like to eat babies, especially “soft-boiled“ and ”scrambled” ones.
Here’s the audio:
The filmmakers responded with a blog post calling the brothers shameful:
Today, the Kochs posted audio of me leaving a message for them months ago asking them to respond to our cancer investigation and laying out why the issue is personal for me. The Kochs accompany the audio with text saying I’m “harassing” them and “exploit[ing] [my] own family to push [my] agenda.” From the Koch brothers’ vantage point as billionaires with mansions all over the country, politics may be an abstraction or a game. But to the 99%, it’s no game. It’s personal. And while smearing me and diminishing the importance of my family may be preferable to them to actually looking into the problems in Crossett, that is not what will help make our country a stronger, healthier place. Shame on them.
We‘ll let you determine if that’s true.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 8:31amIt seems like the Koch’s are attempting to use this merely because it is a “hot mic” moment. The things said in the recording don’t undermine their arguments at all. The Kochs really are no one’s friends, and they fight to continue allowing their industries to pollute the environment while at the same time stripping power away from the worker. This argument that workers should be free so that is why unions are bad is such a crock, because as the Kochs know VERY well.
One worker has no voice and no power, and if their entire industry continues to undervalue and demean them, they are forced to live through it. It is not the easiest thing in the world for someone to just switch up their profession, and to have that happen on such a wide scale such that it would cause businesses to change their practices is so improbable that it is next to impossible.
This is why we have labor groups and watch dogs, because the intervention often has to come from the outside.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 11:52amI knew I would receive some push-back for my comment but I didn’t expect it to get this level. I’m by no means a communist, and I work hard for the money I earn. I don’t think things should come free, but I do believe that there is inherent power in wealth and that wealth disproportionately allows those who wield it to act indifferently. Imagine, a corporation can move its factory to punish the workers in that state for organizing, yet could a family depending on middle class income suddenly move states or even to the next town over just to escape a poor work environment? There is an obvious mismatch here. I don’t think people realize this.
It took organization to get workplaces safe with proper fire equipment and procedure. Workers needed to organize in order to get vacation. These things didn’t come just because owners thought they would be nice.
As for what George Soros does “for the left”. You need to see where the personal benefits lie in relation to the funding. Wouldn’t Soros benefit better in a world that the Kochs are pushing for? Wouldn’t an unregulated market where he could use his substantial financial holdings to bully people around better suit a man in his position?
Let me know where he is bankrupting countries, though I think that argument is tangential in the first place. I was talking about the validity of the man’s claims against Koch versus this recording they picked up.

Also, if you read that article, Soros is hardly the villain in that story, though he did make out very handsomely. Regardless, it seems that we agree that those in power tend to shift the playing field to suit their interests. Although I don’t quite see it as prominently with Soros, I’ll never completely deny that he would like to make some things more favorable to himself. I don’t see how a liberal judge would help him become richer or more powerful, but I guess you do.
I’m not acting, by the way, just expressing my thoughts. I‘m not a new member so you’ll see that I participate where I feel appropriate. I don’t hate capitalism, as I think capitalism’s concept of competition is a great driving force for innovation. I enjoy my work, though it is challenging, and am happy with my performance being used to calculate my raise and bonus. I just think that the issue of worker‘s rights is one that shouldn’t be ignored and left completely to the “invisible hand” of the free market. We’ve covered a lot in our current labor laws, but allowing them to be rolled back and having their representation taken away is not healthy for our country.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 5:30pmIt seems the monitors had some trouble with my most KEGBUNA? so I’ll try another route. Soros is heavily invested in “green schemes” around a billion dollars worth. Recently he was lobbying for the SEC put together the “strongest rules possible” to force oil companies to disclose their payments to foreign governments. These companies argue that they would be at a disadvantage against their foreign competitors.
Report Post »In practice what would happen is American companies would not be able to reach deals to drill in foreign nations, where much of the world’s last undeveloped reserves are likely located. Not only would it be against the law to meet the overseas competition’s terms, but Soros could then unleash his menagerie of think tanks, 527 groups, human rights and monitoring groups to “investigate” American oil companies to keep their hands tied. Meanwhile, competitors in countries like Russia and China would not be subject to the same scrutiny. Still want to play dumb KEGBUNA?
Soros funds Moveon. Moveon recently protested development of shale oil. Is this getting through to you KEGBUNA? Soros wants to hurt the U.S. to make money. It serves him both financially and ideologically to do so.

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 7:53amI get where you feel that Soros may be hurting some industry’s freedom, but you’ve had to make a leap in judgement in order to reach that conclusion, which leaves me skeptical. Ideologically, what do you think his end goal for America is? I’m a bit wary, though, because me even suggesting that Kochs fight against workers being treated better only earned me titles such as “communist” and “marxist”. If you are going to make that leap with Soros, please just offer a little background.
As far as the current labor laws go, what are your thoughts? I’m trying to see how far apart we truly are ideologically.
I would rather not repeat myself, but no, this is not me acting. You tell me to drop “the act”, but these are honest opinions. I’m on this site because I enjoy a little spar here and there to make sure my arguments and beliefs are still sharp. I also frequent biggovernment, redstate, the foundry (though commenting on there is scarce), and read hot air. This is in addition to my usual material.
I don’t think those that disagree with me are trying to sink America, but I just think that some of the ideas about the relationships Americans have to each other are a bit… myopic. Anyway, that’s why I think this article is a distraction from the real conversation.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 8:24amI say all the rich should go Galt and see just how many “freebies” the Government will be able to hand out to the 99%.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 9:33amIt really is time to DEFUND the government. If those of us still paying taxes STOPPED our representatives would have no choice but to reign in spending or just print money. Most realize that printing would lead to an economic collapse of unprecedented proportion. Even if we all went “Galt” for 6 months I’m pretty sure our reps would get the message loud and clear.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 8:21amWhat is the left’s fascination and hunger for anything involving dead babies? Maybe Planned Parenthood could start a carry out service… You could be onto something, Mr. Lava.
Report Post »If the Koch brothers did eat babies, I’m sure that would be the one redeeming quality they possessed from a leftist perspective.
Mr. Lava (what a great surname) embarrassed himself. But it‘s the Koch’s fault. Yep. I see the theme being pursued here. Perhaps the Koch’s should apologize for Mr. Lava’s actions… because that makes sense.
