Oops: China Accidentally Broadcasts Evidence of Cyberwar Against U.S.

It was supposed to be just another piece of Chinese propaganda. It ended up as a major “oops,” revealing that a Chinese military university is engaged in cyberwarfare against the U.S.
The Epoch Times reports that the film, screened in mid-July, included a screenshot that it calls a “damaging revelation.” Here’s the screenshot:
And here‘s why it’s so damaging, according to the Times:
The screenshots appear as B-roll footage in the documentary for six seconds—between 11:04 and 11:10 minutes—showing custom-built Chinese software apparently launching a cyber-attack against the main website of the Falun Gong spiritual practice, by using a compromised IP address belonging to a United States university.
The screenshots show the name of the software and the Chinese university that built it, the Electrical Engineering University of China‘s People’s Liberation Army—direct evidence that the PLA is involved in coding cyber-attack software directed against a Chinese dissident group.
But it gets better. A translation of the screenshot says “Choose Attack Target,” and then the operator selects an IP address, 138.26.72.17. There’s also a big “Attack” button on screen. You may be wondering: Where is that IP address is located? We have an answer: How about the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB).
“The CCP has leaked its top secret here,” Jason Ma, a commentator for New Tang Dynasty Television, told the Times. “This is the first time we see clearly that one of the top Chinese military universities is doing this research and developing software for cyber-attacks. There’s solid proof of it in this video.”
Of course, the Chinese government has long denied any such actions. But earlier this month the country was alleged to have been behind one of the most extensive attacks in history.
The new revelation comes as Vice President Joe Biden wrapped up a goodwill tour in China on Sunday.

Don’t for a minute think Trump does anything for anyone but himself. He is part of the elitist group and cares little for this country. His whole “birther” issue was a sideshow to negotiate his NBC contract and a casino contract in Chicago. He got $400 million in those contracts for making himself look like a fool. Look what the result was…..Obama put forth a “birth certificate” and Trump dropped it legitimizing the b.c. regardless that it had discrepancies. Personally, I could care less about the b.c. when the bigger issue is Obama’s treasonous activities.
But, back to my point, Trump will assess the political landscape in 2012. He will insert himself as a 3rd party Independent (a la Ross Perot) to split the anti-Obama vote. I have little doubt Trump will be compensated highly for helping Obama get re-elected with additional contracts.
Wait and see, my friend. Obama isn’t going anywhere in 2012 and it is foolish to think he is.

Because his celebrity is an issue Im sure fewer people take him seriously even though he is completely correct. I just wonder if anyone still believes China wants to improve relations with the US. I also agree with you. Why do we keep electing corrupt politicians? Who knows, Trump may be what we need. I think he loves this country …hopefully more than he loves himself. He has been telling how China is but hardly anyone listens to him. I want someone in that will bring us back to the top. I don’t know who it is yet but if a Mitt Romney gets in it will most likely be the same old stuff. But I truly believe now that Obama is bringing us down on purpose because no one who reaches the office of the President of the United States can be that stupid…affirmative action or not.

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 11:54amThis is just one more reason on a very long list of reasons why critical infrastructure (power plants, water treatment, nuclear centrifuges, etc…) should NOT be connected to the public internet. There should be an air gap firewall and IF remote access/maintenance is needed it should be done through a secure connection (not an encrypted connection over the public internet (VPN)) or use something telnet over dialup the phone number is not public and use call screening and live monitoring. IT SHOULD NEVER BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET. Use a truly private network for this stuff!!!!!!!

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 1:29pmA tariff will hurt the Chinese much more, they won’t be working any more, and Americans. The ignorant lie spread by liberals that tariffs aren’t the answer is just that a lie to fool the ignorant. Shoes made in China for $6 sold in America for $200 a pair doesn’t help Americans at all, the overwhelming portion of that profit is kept outside the us to avoid paying US corporate income taxes some of the highest in the world. The same shoes could be made in America for $20, sold for the same $200 with the money all staying in our economy, instead of 90% of it being exported to foreign lands. We also need to tax raw material leaving the US.
Report Post »Rogue
Posted on August 22, 2011 at 1:42pmWe won’t ever be competitive in manufacturing here in the US as long as unions are present, we rely on foreign energy, stifling regulations on anything that is manufactured here, and government entitlement programs that must be funded through our high corporate tax rates. Our leaders in Washington could care less about America being competitive – their only concern is prolonging their careers and creating more government employees who don’t produce a damn thing.
Besides, Americans don’t care about American made goods when there are far cheaper alternatives from China or India. Americans are FAR more concerned with thier quality of living than supporting US businesses. We are a nation of consumers, and our thirst for cheap stuff has made US manufacturing of some goods completely extinct. When was the last time you bought a US made cell phone? Even things we do make (more like assemble) have numerous parts coming in from all over the world.
I don’t put any stock into our leaders reforming the manufacturing landscape to the point where we could be competitive in anything we make from scratch. Our best days are unfortunately behind us.

A tariff makes the product more expensive for the consumer, so how can it hurt the Chinese more? You appear to agree with Shane when you mention the US corporate income tax, which is the second highest in the world after Japan.
saranda
Posted on August 22, 2011 at 3:38pm@rogue – I think you are mostly correct. We are a nation of consumers who insist on low prices and therefore foreign made. Unions are not the problem however as even non union labor cannot compete with Chinese labor costs. Our manufacturing problem will continue as their is no answer without the US creating a large bloc of low paid non unionized labor, much like our agricultural industry has been forced to do with illegals.
Report Post »We produce little and expect low prices so we are tied to the Chinese for now, but the end of this will not be our decision. I visited China about 6 years ago on a tour of clothing manufacturers and the common thread amongst the comments was that as China’s middle class grew the need for these facilities to export to the US (and therefore rely on US buying) would decrease as they could sell their goods in their own marketplace. That is the fear we should have, at some point Chinese manufacturers will no longer need to sell to the US market as their own will be larger and more accessible.
loriann12
Posted on August 22, 2011 at 8:25pmIt would make it unprofitable for American companies to go to China and make everything. They would come back home, or at least that‘s what I’ve heard. I know it would be really hard for Americans to adjust to not having made in China junk…American made is a bit more expensive, but you know what? Most of the time it’s a better product. You get what you pay for. We need the manufacturers to come back home before we’re totally a service industry.
