Oops: News Site Posts Glenn Beck’s Picture in Death Announcement

In reporting the death of former ABC News President Elmer Lower, television insider news site TVWeek seems to have made a mistake: Instead of putting a photo of Lower in their story, they’ve posted one of Glenn Beck, captioned “Elmer Lower.”
Lower, who was 98, was behind the network’s hiring of Peter Jennings, Ted Koppel and Sam Donaldson. While he was president, the ABC evening news broadcast doubled from 15 minutes to 30 minutes, the Associated Press reported.
The mistake doesn’t appear to have attracted much attention yet: Only one comment, posted at 8:56 a.m., seems to have noticed the mix up.
So why the mistake? We’re not sure, but it could have something to do with the fact that a Google image search for “Elmer Lower” turns up the image of Beck:

Glen was my fix for the day and Bill O”Reilly has been either bought off or he‘s started to believe his Harvard Education makes him something he sure as heck isn’t. Posted on July 28, 2011 at 12:03amI cut back a while ago…then my local talk radio dropped him, SO I put on my big girl panties and got the pocket radio app on my iPad and iPod and I get my 8:00-11:00AM fix each day, then watch the forth hour at night…..kind of love Pat and Stu :). I can’t view a lot of the videos on here with the iPad to begin with, so it would be “Really supper spiffy Beaver,” if they could work the video into a better format or at least a sound only format. I’m a writer so my hands and eyes are occupied all day, but I would listen ALL day if the files were there!

That picture of Glenn is all over news sites (most specifically radio stations that have a news feed on their home page) because of his news story about the Norway camp being a “Hitler Youth” camp. On the same page is a story about the death of Elmer Lower. Google Images sees the keyword and shows the images that appear on the page. It‘s only because they’re both in the news today that Google Images is making this linkup. If he had died last Sunday we’d see Amy Winehouse pictures showing up in the search.
