Oops: Old Navy Selling College Tees With Incorrect Founding Dates

Oops: Old Navy Selling College Tees With Incorrect Founding Dates | Old Navy College ShirtsSeveral T-shirts in Old Navy’s college line could do with some extra fact checking.

Shirts for the universities of Iowa, Colorado and Arizona are styled with their school colors, nicknames and mascots…and incorrect founding dates.

According to their website, Old Navy claims the founding dates for the three universities are 1820, 1878, and 1881, respectively. Their actual founding dates are 1847, 1876 and 1885. While the dates for Colorado and Arizona are only off by two and four years, Iowa’s is off by a whopping 27 — and 26 years before Iowa even became a state.

The T-shirts were still available online as of Wednesday morning.

It’s not the first time Old Navy has had problems with its college apparel. When the line debuted during the summer, a number of them featured grammatical errors, missing an important apostrophe in the phrase “Let’s Go!!”

While talking with someome wearing an “Old Navy” sweatshirt, I asked her if Old Navy paid her to advertise their products. Of course, the answer was, “huh”? So I explained that if I want to advertise my company on a billboard I must pay the owner of the billboard to put my company name or product images on his billboard. You, I explained, are the billboard and you‘re walking around advertising someone’s company name and doing it for free. Doesn’t that make you feel stupid? Dont you want to be paid to advertise the “Old Navy” name and company image? Her answer was, “huh”–but then, she was a college graduate.

Being an owner of a small business who has to pay for advertising, I too have never understood why someone would gladly fork over dollars to pay for a piece of clothing (or another item) with a company’s logo on it. Just doesn’t make any sense to me.

As I recall, old navy is not American anyway. It was established by Tiawanese women in America and the junk comes from Tiawan. I dont buy anything from there and I dont know who would

The Women or children that produced the shirts you are criticizing are not the ones who design or label any of the shirts in question. They work to make money for their families as I hope you do. I have had many items labeled improperly by College graduates that to this day do not know what spell check is. As our stirring president has noted, the lazy Americans that did the product design for these t-shirts are at fault for this ongoing disappointment in marketing. And by the way you are using a computer that is connected to a monitor and keyboard that uses on the average at least 42 items (parts) that are made in Tiawan. Lots of luck in your purchasing endeavor …………… the sky is blue.

Colleges aren’t interested in correctness as much as they insist on you being indoctrinated. They get an “E” for effort. Here is your PHD. PS. McDonalds is hiring.

How hard is it really to get the founding dates right? If you are a true fan/alumnus it matters a lot! This is a simple NO BRAINER. Fact-check for gosh sake! It costs nothing!!!

Darn; I was going to say it didn‘t matter because the majority of customers probably wouldn’t notice the incorrect dates anyway! hahaha
