Sears online shoppers must have thought they’d found the deal of a lifetime on Friday: The major retailer‘s website mistakenly listed Apple’s 16GB iPad 2 for $69, a far cry from its regularly advertised $744.99.
As word of the deal spread on social networking sites, CNN reports Sears posted a statement Friday night saying the error was due to a third party vendor and would not be honored.
“We want you to know that, unfortunately, today one of the Marketplace third party sellers told us that they mistakenly posted incorrect pricing information on two Apple iPad models on the Marketplace portion of the website. If you purchased either of these products recently, your order has been cancelled and your account will be credited,” the statement said.
According to CNN, many people took advantage of the deal, although a Sears spokesperson could not give an exact number.

Posted on July 17, 2011 at 3:45pmIf Sears don’t honor the mistake, just print out the ad and take it to every retailer that offers price match. This can do what Obama couldn’t. Collapse the retail economy. Get the DOJ involved.

Posted on July 17, 2011 at 1:43pmYou and many people like you are pathetic. So if you for instance had a $3000.00 car and accidently listed it for $300.00 when you got that first phone call for $300.00 no way in hell you would honor that.
None of you here complaining about Sears would take the hit. You are pathetic morons.

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 3:02pmWhat makes me more mad about this is that Sears took money from peoples accounts instantly with a click of a mouse but when they “credit” the charge back to your account it can take up to 10 business days. Should sears honor the mistake? Probably not. Should they due something to make up the inconvenience? If they want my business again they better.

Posted on July 16, 2011 at 12:21pmMidwestmom; should ebay be responsible for every ad placed on its site? is there any doubt that this was an error and not meant to be some sort of scam?
Report Post »It is a sign of the state of our society when people would try and take unfair advantage in a business transaction. That is not the freemarket, that is theft.
there was a disgusting story about something similar in California the other day at a gas station. where people stole thousands of dollars of gas via similar mistake.
People wake up and become an honest and righteous society or we are done for.

Posted on July 16, 2011 at 12:07pmMany years ago, I used to work at a large department store. When there was a mistake in a store print ad, the store would print a correction and display it at the cash register counter. This is the same thing. Sears doesn’t have to honor the mistake.

Posted on July 16, 2011 at 1:35pmWhy can’t the complainers just wait for the next riot and get free everything? It’s what the worthless of our society usually do. Must have been raised without a father figure.

Posted on July 16, 2011 at 11:55am…Marketplace third party sellers…? If Sears allows them to sell products on Sear‘s website wouldn’t Sears be ultimately responsible for the listings? And have to honor the advertised price?
Report Post »rockstone
Posted on July 17, 2011 at 10:36amNo. They don’t have to honor a mistake in pricing. But here’s an idea. If you ever make a simple, honest mistake in your life, we will all promise to forgive you.
Deal? Unless you never make a mistake, I suggest that you at least consider it.
