Oops: This Air Force Picture Might Have Announced the U.S.-Saudi F-15 Deal Before It Was Official

Late Wednesday night, the Associated Press published a story noting that the Obama administration “is poised to announce the sale of nearly $30 billion worth of F-15 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia.” That’s when most people first found out about the deal. Most.

See, as Business Insider points out, the information may have actually been leaked online a few hours earlier when the Air Force published a picture announcing the deal, only to remove it shortly after.

Defense blogger Stephen Trimble first noticed it on an Air Force website and wrote about it. But shortly after his post, the picture and the web page disappeared. He explains on his website The Dew Line:

A US Air Force web site appears to confirm the blockbuster Boeing F-15SA sale to Saudi Arabia. [UPDATE: Within two hours of my blog post, the USAF removed the image from the web site.]

The picture shown above was released to a USAF web site at 3:31pm on 28 December. That means the image appeared several hours before the Associated Press reported the deal would be announced soon by the Obama Administration. So far, the White House has not formally announced the order has been signed by the Saudi government.

So far, the deal hasn’t been officially confirmed. It would send 84 new fighter jets and upgrades for 70 more, for a total of $29.4 billion, according to the AP’s sources.

About a year ago, the administration got the go-ahead from Congress for a 10-year, $60 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia that included F-15s, helicopters and a broad array of missiles, bombs and delivery systems, as well as radar warning systems and night-vision goggles.

The plan initially raised concerns from pro-Israeli lawmakers, but U.S. officials reassured Congress that Israel’s military edge would not be undercut by the sale. Additionally, there is now broad agreement among Israel, the Gulf Arab states and the West that Iran poses a significant and unpredictable threat.

Saudi Arabia and Iran are bitter regional rivals. Tensions between them were further stoked earlier this year after the U.S. accused Iran of plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the U.S. in Washington.

Saudi Arabia is already the most militarily advanced of the Arab Gulf states, one of the richest countries in the world, and central to American policy in the Middle East. It is also vital to U.S. energy security, with Saudi Arabia ranking as the third-largest source of U.S. oil imports.

    It wont be long before Israel is fighting Saudi Arabia and having to blow the same jets we are sailing them out of the sky. We didn’t learn from Iraq, or Afghanistan. Why do we keep arming people to fight us?

      So let me get this straight: in 2006 control of U.S ports was going to be handed over to the UAE which is more or less Saudi, and that didn’t quite go as planned and so it was handed over to AIG, but if I not mistaken AIG was taken over by China. Therefore now, we are (they say selling at least) giving the Saudis high tech jets.

    We’ve been in bed with Saudi Arabia for years. We supply arms and technology, they supply oil. See how that works Liberals. We exchange arms for oil. This is why we need to drill in our own lands by your left-wing whack job environmentalist keeps the relationship going. If we can produce more of our own oil, we can stop sending arms to Saudi Arabia. Until someone stands up and says enough is enough, we will always be in this situation. Remember, Republicans and Democrats have carried a majority many times in the House and Senate and have not one damn thing except we need to become independent, yet you won’t allow us to drill. Pick your poison. Keep send arms to Saudi’s or drill in our own back yard with a very small risk to the environment.

      This isn’t about Israel, it is about a war between the Shia and Sunnis that has been going on for centuries. It may reach a boiling point in 2012 as the old Persian Empire moves to establish hegemoney over the Arab world. This is behind the so called Arab Spring as the Arabs attempt to get a united front against the Iranians. It underlies the troubles in Syria where the Shia concentrated against the Israelis are opposed by the Sunni. Our interests lay with the corrupt Arab leaders of Saudi Arabia not with the religious maniacs ruling Iran. Not much of a choice.

      No Paul is not a God, but his principles are God given.     Well folks guess what, we’ve been selling to them for YEARS and now you get all upset? Let’s see, we get 25% of our oil from them and we sell them F-15s with LRUs (Line replaceable units-putters if you will) that are not as excellent as the US LRUs stuffed in the F-15s…the key is in the SRUs which are components that make up the LRU…we sell them with built in defeat systems…and if they need a spare part, who do they go to…recall if you will Iraq’s US warplanes were turned into rust…how did that happen, eh.

    There is not one of you that has worked on the farm to know anything about how all of this works…if you are going to report the bloody news, refer to history and go to the congressional library to find out what we really are selling. We sell junk planes to them…JIMHO

      Obama pretty much does what he does whether we like it or not. he has set a course for the literal destruction of this country. He supports those that are opposed to drilling, coal mining, nuclear energy, natural gas extraction, all of which would make us at the very least energy independent from the Middle East, if not the entire world.
      As has been said, the 911 hijackers were Saudi’s and the Arab world is being taken over by Muslim extremist, like the Muslim Brotherhood, with significant assistance from the Imposter-in-Chief. Obama, if not a Muslim himself, is profoundly a sympathizer, and is not a friend of Israel.
      If you think for one minute that the Saudi princes could not be deposed and replaced by Islamic extremism, armed to the teeth with the weapons that have and are being sold, then our State Department, which is heavily infiltrated with elitist clones, is living in a pipe dream.
      As the days past, I am leaning more heavily towards supporting Ron Paul. I profoundly do not believe Ron Paul will sell Israel out. Obama will! Ron Paul most likely will not sell arms to Saudi Arabia, and will not fund the Arab world to the tune of 12 billion plus in foreign aid. I don‘t think Ron Paul’s foreign policy is as shaky as the media would have us believe. If monies spent both domestically and over seas are not drastically cut, the bottom will fall out soon – very likely this coming year.

However I will tell you that I support Ron Paul and the more I read of his policies, his consistent stand on them, and his focus on this country as opposed to others, the more I do so. Please, whoever you consider research them more and more and when you have made your choice continue to research them. Constantly keeping an eye on our politicians is vital to maintaining their integrity. Is Ron Paul perfect? In my opinion, No. But last I checked there has only been one person who fit that description, and that is only because of my faith. Others would disagree. Still while not perfect it is my opinion he is the only person for the job. Stay on top of all of them and we’ll see you at the polls.

      There used to be a time when a security clearance was required to have access to information like this. And it was tested AND enforced. A lapse was grounds for loss of that “privileged” access and for increased vigilance, testing and training. Not to mention prison for the perp.

    If I remember right all the terrorists that flew the planes into the twin towers were Saudis, doesn‘t that make them our enemies and isn’t giving weapons to the enemy treason. Is this part of the price of getting oil from our enemies, we have to give them weapons they can use against us and Israel, instead of from Canada, which at last check was our friend. No wonder the world hates us, I hate us.

      Since ( almost ) every story of late effects our everyday lives, that makes sense to speak on how the candidate(s) might respond.
      What would your choice of candidate do? Start WWIII because someone “might, perhaps, could someday get nuclear weapons” ? That’s not only unconstitutional, that’s MURDER, and the last time I checked “thou shalt not murder” ( literal translation, not modern era misnomer) was still a commandment from GOD. So much for the vaunted Christian ethics of the other PRE meditated murderous candidates, wolves in sheep’s clothing. Oh, and voting for someone who said they will murder, is also a sin, perhaps we should reconsider whom we vote for, that is IF your a Christian.
      Yes, I hear your mind spinning, you say “ they want to kill us”, perhaps some do indeed, but every last one of them? How do bombs separate the guilty from the innocent, they don’t.
      Being a Christian takes much more than rhetoric, it takes following through, it takes not doing what everyone else is doing because GOD requires it, not because it’s popular.

If Ron Paul takes away the federal legistlation against narcotics (as he should) then it falls to the states to regulate it. Are really that inept? The Interstate commerce clause has been abused far too long by both sides and needs to be restricted to its proper jusrisdiction. Is that really all you people are motivated by Fear and Ignorance? Learn how the government is supposed to work, how large it is supposed to be, what it should and more importantly should not be able to do, let the states take on the responsibilities as laid out in the Constitution (by way of enumerating what the Federal is able to do), etc…

      Interesting to not the Air Force promoting the sale. Where exactly does our military end and our military industrial complex begin. Answer: It doesn’t. We fight so the money continues to flow to the established military contractors, not because of ideology or purpose.

      China is the model for the New World Order.

      When you see our country being transformed, make comparisons to China.

      It’s all coming here. Military/Financial Dictatorship. One child policies. Secret Arrests. Secret executions. Forced Labor. Big Brother Panopticon, etc.

      It’s surreal.
