Oprah Gives New Stewart/Colbert Rally Her Blessing

Last night, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert announced that they are combining their rallies into one: the “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.” The new rally then garnered the support of Oprah, who appeared on the show via satellite to offer everyone a ride trip (much like Arianna Huffington).

Colby Hall sets up the announcement like this:

Stephen Colbert said it best: “Just for the record Jon, your rally is supposed to be about sanity, and that was insane!” The ten minute comedy bit somehow started with Wolf Blitzer’s inquisition of Christine O’Donnell’s [witch] denial, turned to a surprise cameo by Stephen Colbert (appropriately clad in a “invisibility cloak”) and ended with Oprah Winfrey appearing live via satellite to offer each audience member a trip to the rally. It was, in short, awesome television.

Oprah is not the only one going gaga over the event. According to a New York Times report, the news media is also hoping to douse itself in fear and sanity on October 30th:

Most national news organizations have made requests for credentials to cover the event, and almost 300,000 people have so far signed up to attend. What Mr. Stewart’s cable network, Comedy Central, is labeling “satellite rallies” have been scheduled in more than 40 locations nationally and at least six foreign countries.

While many will be covering the event, not everyone is clear on what exactly they will be covering. A political event? A comedy routine? Neither? Both?

The Times sums it up: “no one is quite sure what it is going to be yet.”

All this is a political distraction , just before the elections , to try and diffuse the anger on election day . It is geared to their watcher base ,or young people , to get them to the poles , in hopes they will support the Democrats. I can only hope their followers will realize that these are comedians and although their audience thinks their satire might be funny , there is nothing funny about the condition of our country under the Democrats. Also their satire does not reflect or change the vote of majority of American people. This is another sad result of this administration , in tough times entertainers were always seen as a non political , sources of relief in hard times. Their political beliefs were always kept to themselves , for fear of alienating a portion of their watchers . I cant tell you how many entertainers I dont watch anymore due to their political activism . Its ashame, because the country is going to need the relief , entertainers used to supply , during the upcoming tough times . Call it payback for raising them from obscurity , to famous and wealthy without much effort on their part.

      @IAMHUNGRY
I do watch him , but I am not a die hard fan .and I do enjoy many of his topics . I think he does , do a pretty good job of keeping his political , and religious views to himself , considering the topics he takes on.
I see him as a lecturer , putting a set of facts, out there , as he sees them , its up to you , to agree , disagree , do further research and create your own opinion . His lecturers can be entertaining , but I dont see him , as the same kind of entertainer , as a comedian , singer , actor , trying to force their views on you . I think way to many people see Beck as more than a lecturer , and I agree with his own statement , do your own research and create your own opinions . Take his lead and do the work , dont just follow and believe him blindly.
I do give him credit , for doing what was necessary , to wake up the American people , who for too long has let our government rule mindlessly without our personal attention.

Oh my gosh…Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have to combine their rallies now, because they both finally figured out that they can’t draw a big enough crowd to outdo Glenn Beck! And…if they are hoping to restore SANITY to whatever it is they are trying to promote at this rally, then they are actually going to need Glenn and the Tea Party PATRIOTS who actually LOVE AMERICA and think IT’S A PRETTY GOOD COUNTRY TO LIVE IN, because those two clowns don’t have any sanity by the looks of them. No wonder I never watch them…I’d be YAWNING.
I did find out one thing though…Oprah has superpower, because they think that she can single handedly build her own ark. Ya. Yawn again. It took NOAH (you know the guy in the Bible) 100 years to build the ark and the door was so heavy, GOD himself had to close it. But then…I forgot…isn’t Oprah the one who knows there are many paths to god???!!!
The Times said that no one is quite sure what this rally is going to be yet! That’s a good one. I don’t know either, but if the One Nation rally is any indication…this time I’ll buy more popcorn…Probably more of the same rabble we saw at the last progressive rally. I can hardly wait to watch so I can have another good laugh! I’ll be watching so I can remember it from a historical perspective…LOL And this time, for heaven’s sake…please get someone that can count…just sayin’……..

Yeah..about that….see…you still would have to hand it the Daily Show.. They might be skimming around 2 million viewers at late night (past Grandma’s bedtime apparently) right now, but of the three (Glenn Beck, Oprah, and the Daily Show), they are the only one with a Peabody Award. For a fake news outlet that is consistly accurate with the real truths, that is amazing and sad at the same time.

To JOSEPH_PLUMB_MARTIN: you got that right. maybe if the other two quit with the White Horse and the Secret and started doing some in-depth fact checking (rather than fulfilling their obvious confirmation biases) they might have had the same.

Funny how people like Oprah and Obama seems so intent to destroy and support the destruction of the free market, but they have made their fortunes off said market.

Stewart and Sherbert are funny guys with a good amount of wit–too bad that is not what we need in this country.

To me, the more they publicize how many people they are offering to transport and blah, blah, blah, just goes to show the inept movement that they support.

Wake up liberals! You think that it is such a good thing that we have Obama in the office,,,,period. That is where your investigating and seeking of truth ends. Oh wait, I’m sorry to have forgotten, most of these liberal minded, anti-Constitutionalists, atheist demigods refuse to believe that there is anything such a thing as an absolute TRUTH.
Let me solve this riddle for you: you sit on a chair, I hit you as hard as I can somewhere you are not expecting, you scream in pain, and I ask you if it hurt. You say hell yes it did! I say that my friend is an absolute truth then. If it exists at all, anywhere in this universe, then it exists period.

Even if this stupid rally brings in a million people, big whoop. there is 350 million in this nation and that million might be the only representation of the crap-minded Progressive movement left.
November 2 is the rally that counts.

It is lucky Oprah used the capitalist free market to make her fortune pre-Obama because if she didn’t she would still be looking for a job. I used to Tevo her show, gave her mag for Christmas presents, contributed to her causes. I wonder how many other people, besides me, came to an abrupt halt when she endorsed Obama? I had friends ask me not to renew their subscription because she had moved so far to the left. I guess she was always there but, at the time, I just didn’t see it. Talk about a hypocrite!! It really is sad how people, I think otherwise good people, get onto the Oprah bandwagon. This woman is helping Obama implement his agenda. Remember, Oprah was in Rev. Wright’s church with Obama and I think it got too hot there so she left. But she went there for a purpose. She also is a capitalist and knew the Rev. was hot, a little too hot for her although she most likely agrees with him. The soccer moms would not like having their mini-god (Oprah) associated with the Rev.

Flashlight, Glenn has been very clear to his viewers and radio listeners that he completely understands how valuable our time is. The last thing I need is another FNC show infiltrated by lefties. Those of us who watch Glenn are fully aware of the left’s point of view and we have made our choice; we don’t agree with the Progressive agenda and ideology and we will no longer sit on the sidelines while it permiates through our country, school, churches, economy, etc. The reason Glenn does not need to rub elbows with Mr Stewart is because it would be of no benefit to him and there are much better uses of his time, like spending time with his wife, playing with his children, or reading more of a book. It has nothing to do with fear and he is not in competition with O’Reilly. The beauty of TV is there is something for everyone.

This rally is for moderates. People who know that unemployment is at 9.5% nationally, and yet have to see stories like O’Reilly on The View, Koran burnings………..Foreclosures are up, yet the news is more interested in covering stories such as Christine O‘Donnell being a teenager in high school and Alan Grayson’s smear ads…………….People are working jobs just to pay bills and families are struggling, yet the news cares more about some illegal immigrant who lied, and yet, we are supposed to feel sorry for.

That’s what the rally is about. That’s how Colbert and Stewart get their jokes, is because that is the sad truth in this country. MSNBC, FOX, CNN……they cover what’s going to get the most viewers, not what’s the most important……I was watching Stewart the other night, he was ripping all the news networks because they were scared to say “whore” talking about what the ex-Cali gov said about Meg Whitman. ARE YOU SERIOUS? Just say it and get on with the show, the political correctness in this country is absurd. That’s what is fueling these rallies and gives these guys emmys.

Sometimes I think Stewart, Colbert, and South Park have more common sense views on things than people that are paid to give opinions.

      @Contrarian

That’s pretty much what Stewart said when he announced the rally on his show, I watched the episode. He wants to have a march on the mall to have peaceful discussion or whatever, he wasn’t really promoting liberal, conservative, religious, dem or gop.

8/28 wasn’t political, and I loved everything about it, but it was a religious rally with a conservative backdrop (This is my opinion, Beck and his group did a great job of leaving the politics out and sticking to the Constiution and turning to God, again, I thought it was great)….Whereas the 10/2 rally was all about unions, embracing diversity by saying white people are evil, saying Obama needs his 2nd term to deliver, even though the stimulus promised unemployment wouldnt go past 8%,

Stewart and Colbert’s kinda falls in the middle. It‘s for the people who can’t watch mainstream media because the media has an infatuation with shock value and not reporting stories that actually have importance. Donald Duck touching some girl’s boob (even though most mascots are female) is not as important as 700bil given to Wall Street firms at 0% interest. Of course, Colbert is taking his usual sarcastic stance and calling his rally “Keep Fear Alive.”

I think it will be good…….Of course, the politics of the rally is it’s right before 11/2.

That is half the point of this rally (if you factually knew anything about it). It is a bringing of satire to the rally stage.

To THENINTHPLANET: Glenn Beck could have bused you there if he genuinely care or had a sense of charity. He has made enough money to have paid for the rally completely by himself rather than a small portion cause his audience wouldn’t ( or more likely couldn’t). But just like everything Glenn Beck, he is only concerned with making money off of others. Actions speak volumes more than words

To CONTRARIANTHINKER: There is just as much guidance in this rally as in 8/28/10 rally, possibly more.

To NONAME22: You’ve hit the name on the head.

This rally is about bringing people together who have enough common sense and understanding to see how bad things are now, yet know this country has gone through much worse times and is strong enough to keep going. It is self-centered, self-serving, and near narcissistic to think that you live in the time of the apocalypse, end of days, or even the end of such a strong country as ours.
This rally is for those who think realistically and sanely enough to realize this and, at the same time, laugh at the absurdity and stupidity present in the current political and social discourse, the severity in numbers of the believers of such idiocy, and try to show that there are plenty of level-headed Americans through thought-provoking satire
