Oprah Issues Backhanded Compliment of Palin With ‘Intelligence’ Jab

There are compliments, and then there are backhanded compliments. File Oprah’s latest comments about Sarah Palin into the latter category.

In an interview with the magazine Parade, Oprah was asked her thoughts on Sarah Palin’s probable run for president. The first reply was fairly complimentary:

I don‘t know her so I can’t speak to [whether or not she'll be a candidate]. But I would say that America’s going to fall in love with her from [her reality series, Sarah Palin's Alaska]. When I saw that first episode, I went, ‘Whoa! She is charming and very likable.

Then there was the follow-up question along the lines of, “Does a Palin 2012 presidential run scare you?” Oprah couldn’t resist:

It does not scare me because I believe in the intelligence of the American public.

Ouch. But Palin wasn’t the only one Oprah took shots at. While explaining that her reviews of President Obama are still very glowing (when asked if she was concerned or disappointed in the president), she made it clear that the American people are just ungrateful for what Obama’s done for them:

No. I think that no one understands until you’ve been in that seat the enormous pressure to please and satisfy everybody. And I think instead of being grateful for where we are and what he has done, we’ve forgotten that we were on the brink of  a depression when he took over this office. And as everybody celebrates the holiday season and sits around with their families, regardless of your circumstance, we could’ve had breadlines. How soon we forget that. [Emphasis added]

    If it weren’t for food banks in this country there would be breadlines. They didn’t have food banks in the thirties during the depression, only the soup kitchens. I believe the statistics are that 42 million Americans are on food stamps. That’s one out of every 7 Americans. And Oprah thinks we were in a depression when Barry took office? The woman is insane.

    What the hell does Oprah mean when she says she doesn’t know her. She had Sarah Palin on her show and interviewed her more than once. What Oprah should be big enough to admit is that she only came out and got involved in politics because there was a bi-racial man that she found attractive and turned her own. The woman is in love with Obama.

    Had it been Alan Keyes or any other Democratic, dark-skinned African American man who said the exact same things, sounded the exact same way, had the same ideas and talked about the seas rising and hope and change but didn‘t turn her on and didn’t have what she considers Obama’s exotic bi-racial background, she would NOT have voted for him. For those of you who don’t remember, Oprah had Hillary Clinton on her show prior to her decision to run and said on national television that she would sure vote for her and be proud to have her as our first female President. That was, in fact, until Obama made his announcement! I wonder what her definition of a racist is?

      Oprah’s ratings are at an all time high. She’s getting her own network so there will be more shows.

      It’s Sarah Palins ratings that are down. 5 million viewers in the first episode and now barely over 3 million viewers the rest of the episodes.
      Of course TLC is excited, this is the most people have watched any show on their network. Bill O Reilly has slightly over 3 million viewers. Big deal.

      I hope Sarah Palin does do a second season on TLC. Maybe we’ll be able to see Russia.

      Just a little more education for you…As of July 2010, Oprah’s ratings had hit an all time low in her 25 years and the show that she had Sarah Palin was the highest rated in 2 years….Google it.

      Oprah is a waste of time and I’m glad she will have her OWN network because then I can program my TV to ignore it.

    Has anyone ever noticed that Oprah is so fat she has to push down on the armrests of her chair to extract her fat ass from the chair. She completely fills out the chair. And why doesn’t she ever give away her own billions of dollars instead of shaking down some corporate sponsor to do her charity work for her? The biggest insult to the poor blacks of this country was her utter rejection of U.S. A. by building a school in a foreign country, South Africa. What a shameful deed.

    Ok I’ll bite. lol First sure during the presidential election the economy was taking a severe downward turn but so far I have found no pertinent information that conclusively proves that no matter who was elected president that this country would have ended up in some kind of great depression which leads me to believe that the severity of the problem, while clearly getting severe, was extremely over hyped for political points, no more, no less. So there is no factual information, at the time of the elections, to back up Oprah’s claim.

    Second I know for a fact that most of us clear thinking and intelligent Americans know and understand that the position of POTUS is as seat of enormous pressure and that it is never possible to please or satisfy everybody so Oprah’s remark on this is very disingenuous to put it as mildly as one can.

    Third I think that many of us can abundantly agree that a great majority of issues addressed by this president have proven to be abject failures after the fact. There is enough information out there to back this up both in the evidence of the aftermath’s and, concerning legislation, in the bills themselves.

    So my conclusion, while our economy and many people in this nation are suffering, I don’t think we would ever have reached the point of economic depression no matter who was elected. The historic overall proof, since “The Great Depression”, and even before that, is that economic slumps come and go and no matter how bad things may get there is always a rebound. The only reality that can be argued about economic trends is the degree of ups and downs and that in almost every case it is always the dynamic tenacity of the free market system and the American people that turn the situation around when things go downhill, however I digress that sometimes we forget the repercussions of past mistakes until after the fact.

    So to be quite honest I just have to disagree with the claims that Oprah has brought forth to date, however I can accept that like me, she has her own opinions on matters, as I think everyone does. I think that if one takes the time to research, rather than just read or accept whatever feel good story they have witnessed, that reality and truth become abundantly clear.

    Of course, that’s just my opinion. LOL

      After the election, a whole bunch of ignorant democRATS, filed suits against Palin. These suits, because they involved the Alaskan Governor, would have to be paid for by the people of Alaska.
      Sarah Palin thought this was unfair. Alaskan people work hard for their money. So, in order to do what was right for her state and people, she resigned.
      I can not remember any other politician EVER giving up her/his position for the people voluntarily just because it was the right thing to do. The people of Alaska know why Palin quit. It was right.
      Sarah Palin has more honor than your Obama will ever have. Mainly because she knows what honor is, Obama doesn’t.

      Funny, because the moment she endorsed Obama–I vowed NEVER to watch her show again….and I didn’t. Realistically though–if she was still the Queen of TV she would not be canceling her show. Her decline in viewership has been steady since she endorsed Obama. Someone that vowed never to use her “power” or “show” for the advancement of any one particular candidate was an out and out lie. I am so glad she is going to be gone. OWN, however, will not do well. I’m calling it now. And furthermore, Oprah scares me because she shows no fear of where she will spend eternity. This is truly a godless woman, with no soul, no moral compass, and probably sold her soul to Satan in return for power long, long ago.

      As for a run for the presidency, I think Palin is much more effective as a commentator. Her conservative cattle prod can help keep elected officials honest and the voters fired up. She’ll be a force to be reckoned with in a future race, but now is not the time.

      What has Oprah ever done? Sure she was born in poverty to a single mother and then rose to become a billionaire, the very thing possible in very few other countries if any. Wiki says she’s ranked as the possibly the most influential woman on the planet and one of the greatest philanthropists in the country (that means she gives her money away for good causes).

      But no admiration for her here, only scorn, ridicule about her weight and the idea the a woman who doesn’t want children is some sort of lesser creature. Really classy guys. I guess if you become one of the great American success stories, you’re worthless unless you think Sarah Palin is fit to be President (which the majority of American’s do no by the way).

      Oprah, had Obama on her show, she has supported him or in the least has never said a negative critical word about him in the past two years that I have seen.
      I don’t think it a stretch so suggest that with her popularity and power she could have been a major factor in his getting elected. In other words if she had NOT had him on her show and kept her opions to herself, a lot less people would have been snookered by the socialistic, lying and anti free market Obama. She should be ashamed for not being honest and impartial or at least staying out of politics all together. Over 95 percent of blacks voted for Obama. Can this be called anything but racist? Take the black vote out and Obama would not be President. Can Oprah really not be disappointed when she hears him speak with his egomaniacal rhetoric. Has she not noticed that I, me and my fill his speeches? It is hard to believe that Oprah has taken two years to say something positive about Sarah Palin. Anyone who does not think she would be a better President than Obama Has their head in a very unpleasant place. She is honest, tough, down to earth and she is not afraid to take on big business and special interest groups. Compare that with the liar, limp wristed elitist who supports union bosses and special interest groups who are backed by the evil George Soros. Maybe Oprah knows why Obama has surrounded himself with these people but whatever the reason, it cannot be good.

      I know the small town in Ms that she came from they named a street after her and after a time they even paved it. Our ancestor‘s came here from mostly European countries and the reason is they didn’t like what was going on in their homeland. I think we need to look back at why they left. Socialism dosn‘t’ work that’s a fact, they even tried it in the first colony and almost starved to death and would have if not for the Indian’s generosity. She does not think Palin is qualified to be president, but thought a man whose total work experience was as a community organizer was supremely qualified for the position.
