Orange County GOP Denounces Party Official’s Racist E-Mail

Marilyn Davenport, a Tea Party activist and member of the Orange County Republican Party’s central committee, is drawing fire from people in her own party after circulating a racist email depicting President Barack Obama and his parents as chimpanzees. In the email: “Now you know why — No birth certificate!”
The OC Weekly broke the story and were able to reach Davenport for comment. Her response:
“Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people–mostly people I didn’t think would be upset by it.”

Sorry, but your reply is too simplistic. Let’s delve a little deeper into this issue.
Why choose a chimp — as opposed to an azz, e.g. — to describe a white president’s stupidity? Quite simply, because the underlying message is different. Donkeys are stupid, but they are not in our purported evolutionary chain; apes are. Be it Obama or Bush, the deeper association is with evolution. Thus the implication is: “He is stupid because he is still an ape; he has not evolved.” Appearance/color would have no import, if the analogy to apes were not associated with a breakdown in the so-called evolutionary process. Otherwise, it would be even more egregious to compare blacks to ravens.
Thus the analogy of a human to an ape implies the same insult, regardless of race. The difference lies in that it is taboo to call a black person the “unevolved” kind of stupid. Heck, even calling a black person “dumb” if you are a white public figure is perceived as racist! That’s why whites who are in the limelight choose their words carefully when they talk to or about blacks, especially if they are not Democratic. (BTW, we are now seeing the same ONE-WAY SOCIAL TABOO applied to Muslims, where they can trash other religions, but the reverse is considered bigotry.)
In this particular case, I would have condemned breaking the primitive ONE-WAY SOCIAL TABOO — although its application in 21st-century America is strictly political and thus devoid of social justification –IF libs had not decided to apply the analogy to a Republican president FIRST. However, they did, thereby breaking another societal precept that dictates a certain level of respect for the office of the presidency. Since you guys drew first blood, it is now fair game.

Many years ago there was a “scandal” where a politician gave a list of names to a new intern and told him to arrange some invitations to a dinner and get them mailed out. He did so and boy did the SHTF. The invitations featured 3 cannibals standing around a cooking pot and the caption was “You’re invited to dinner!”
What was the scandal? The invitees were the Congressional Black Caucus. There was nothing racist about that either. Just bad taste and a bad choice with bad communication.

It will make it easier for the opposition to get their way if they have someone like that to fight against. As she tries to convince the public, it will all fall on deaf ears that already have a formed opinion of who she really is.
