Oregon ‘Teacher of the Year’ Praises Obama, Declares ‘Si Se Puede’ During Graduation Speech

Oregon’s “teacher of the year” spoke admiringly of President Barack Obama and invoked his “Yes we can” and “Si se puede” mottos during her speech at a Portland high school’s recent graduation ceremony.
Elena Garcia-Velasco, who won the state accolade in November, is a Spanish teacher at Roosevelt High School and has been described as a “demanding instructor,” according to the Oregonian.
“Just a few weeks ago when I met President Obama, I used the few seconds I had to address him to say, Mr. President, you inspire my students. Yes, we can. Si se puede,” Garcia-Velasco said in a video of her remarks posted online.
She continued, “I can tell you with all confidence that he loved to hear that. I know it because of his wide-open smile and because I saw reflected in his eyes that same inspiration and hope he’s been known to bring into our world. That same day, right after his time with the teachers of the year from each state, President Obama went on to work for better student loans to grant easier college access. I like to think that perhaps you, students of the year, had a hand in it.”
“To create your own path, yes, you can,” Garcia-Velasco said. “Claro que si puedes (Yes of course you can).”

Last month, Obama admitted he had “stolen” the slogan “Si se puede” from Dolores Huerta, an honorary chair of the Democratic Socialists of America who has praised Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez and once declared Republicans “hate Latinos.”

She’s one of the many so-called minorities who hate America, whites and especially the white power structure.
I can just about guarantee she has some childish idea that Hispanics would be in a power-sharing mode with blacks if they could get rid of whites and reduce their power to zero.
She’s too naive to understand that both groups would be fighting and killing one another on a daily basis, just as they now do in California, and the US would look something like South Africa or Zimbabwe.

Americans have a long history of trying to educate everyone, and to give everyone a hand up when they need it, as many of you know either from personal experience or the experience of relatives or people you know. Neither do we throw our elderly in the ditch and kick them in the face to pay for tax cuts for the rich.
Regardless of your religious beliefs that makes good sense for our country. Those policies increase the pool of Americans who become educated and can contribute to American exceptionalism.
To many Republicans, especially the fringe, American exceptionalism means tax breaks for the rich, increasing taxes for the poor and all with the excuse that although we’re making it harder and harder for the middle class and poor to succeed in this country, and easier and easier for rich families and their children to succeed that still there’s a “chance” that a poor kid, going to a lousy school, a school that’s getting worse all the time “might become millionaire.”
Sure, hang idea that creating an upper caste of inherited wealth is best for our country. We’ve still got those uber-rich people to keep America exceptional. The rest like you and your children? Tough crap, you’re stupid and lazy.

And then low and behold, what do I see hit the headlines on Monday.
Violent crime, including murder, assault, and rape declined by 4% last year. This is the 5th consecutive year that it has declined.
And the funniest thing of all is that as this has been happening, guns sales have been going through the roof. Actually, they have been skyrocketing ever since Obama took office.
Whataya know JZSaul. More guns,…….and I mean a lot more guns,……seems to equal less violent crimes. Quite a few less crimes.
And this is happening at a time when crime should be on the rise, according to those that believe in the “sciences” of the mind.

And we wonder why they can’t communicate properly and cannot enunciate or pronounce words properly. I have also noticed that the Head Start program that takes children from English speaking families and teaches them to speak Spanish when English is supposed to be taught to help with education of the Spanish speaking children not visa versa. and then the children get their I‘s and E’s mixed up and have a harder time communicating. What’s with this Multi- Cultural program that screws up the Native tongue?

Just look at how well our public school system is doing….the last I heard we rank like 26 in the world….however….we rank #1 in self confidence. So basically our public shool system is graduating people who don’t know anything yet think they are the best and have inflated egos. Don’t you just love what this country has become….and a large part of it is due to our public schools and teachers like this.
