O’Reilly Reacts to Shielding Himself with Umbrella During Ambush by Occupier: ‘I Felt Like the Penguin’ in Batman

During Thursday‘s O’Reilly Factor, bost Bill O’Reilly shared his reaction to last night’s run-in with a D.C. Occupier. The man, who rushed towards O’Reilly repeatedly asked the Fox host whether he had attended a fundraiser for now-Republican frontrunner Newt Gingrich.

Mediaite reports:

O’Reilly told viewers that he had been “walking to the White House for an annual media party,” when a man ran up behind him and “began screaming,” ignoring O’Reilly’s pleas to leave him alone. When the man was about a foot away, the Fox News host attempted to use his umbrella as a shield.

Below is Wednesday’s video for reference. O‘Reilly’s reaction on Thursday’s Factor, follows below:

O’Reilly continued, recounting how a Secret Service agent stopped the man, discovering that he was an Occupy DC protester. O’Reilly asked the agent to call police because “I felt the guy was out of control.” The man could not be arrested, according to the officers who arrived on the scene, because he hasn’t actually physically touched O’Reilly.

The host added that, if the man had identified himself, he would have stopped and talked to him, maybe even invited him onto The Factor, but that, since he didn’t know who the man is or whether or not he was carrying a weapon, he tried to, essentially, protect himself from a meddling, threatening stranger.

In response to the events of that evening, Factor guest and D.C. police detective Trevor Hewick weighed in, saying, “The police misinterpreted the law…because you don’t have to have a physical contact or an injury to arrest somebody for simple assault.”

Hewick suggested that political correctness might have been at play in preventing law enforcement from taking further action.

Below is an interview with the man who rushed O’Reilly:

This is no different than what Jesse, the guy who ambushes people for O’Reilly, does.

The guy was just asking him a question. Why couldn‘t Bill O’Really answer?

He asks him if he attended a fundraiser for Newt Gingrich? Why couldn’t Bill just say yes or no?

I guess big government O’Reilly loves progressive Newt. Some of you would do well to check the man’s record. He is a Rockefeller Republican or Teddy Roosevelt Progressive. Might as well be a D.

Gingrich uses the language of free markets and liberty to sell statist government programs. It’s so obvious that Newt and Romney are big government guys.

Are you guys willing to vote for these two simply because they have an R behind their names? Are people that dense?

O’Reilly thinks because he advocates a govt. that is 5% smaller than the D’s he is a free market constitutionalist. The man is a joke. Gingrich is a joke. Romney is a joke.

As for you “Paulies”, Ron Paul is not so unlike OWS. You can agree with 90% of what they espouse but the last 10% can kill you. In Paul’s case his stance on Iran is what will kill us. No chance my absentee primary ballot will show Paul as my choice.

Bill doesn‘t state that he’s an opponent of the Second Amendment, outright, but his defense of Mayor Nagin’s seizure of all guns is absurd: He concedes that the police were unable to defend the citizens against the savages while condemning the right of a citizen to defend themselves. The spokesperson should have pressed him on that point.

      @avergerk

That is three strikes for you.

First you display childishness in intentionally twisting rightallalong’s handle,

Next you display ignorance in the substance of your attack of rightallalong’s opinion that Oreilly is a disgrace to conservatism when you wrote-

“Where is it written that O’Reilly must adhere to every dogmatic conservative principle?” He has very strong opinions about a lot of things. Many times he‘s shown he doesn’t have strict conservative ideas.”

Answer: OReilly may claim “independence” as a political party, but he also claims to adhere to conservative values. You admit he doesn’t have strict conservative ideas.

However those ideas constitute conservative Principles or Values, and a true principle is never dogmatic in the negative sense of the word dogma. As a matter of fact, OReilly espousing strong opinions that are not in line with conservative princples, while claiming conservatism, is the epitome of dogmatism.

And last, you state: “I disagree with him on many things. Apparently that’s not how it shoudl be right?”

So here you are implying that Rightallalong is intolerant of those who disagree with one another. Yet he was pointing out the truth that there is no grace in claiming to be something, while your actions say another thing, as OReilly showed by the positions he took in the Videos.

Yet you disagree with these facts? Now that is NOT how it should be. But I accept that it is for YOU. Goo

O’Reilly says a lot of things that I disagree with and I indentify myself as politically conservative. From other posts here one can determine that other conservatives have disagreed with O‘Reilly’s positions in the past also. Rather than celebrate the fact that unlike the group think mentality of the left, conservatives can look at issues and determine where they stand them as individuals…you choose to defend RIGHTALLWRONG’s smear campaign. RIGHTALLWRONG is a troll…likely a Ron Paulite- or possibly a lefty troll- posting the same cut and paste repeatedly to smear O’Reilly. @avengerk,

you said: “Rather than celebrate the fact that unlike the group think mentality of the left, conservatives can look at issues and determine where they stand them as individuals…you choose to defend RIGHTALLWRONG’s smear campaign.”

I was working on what I saw right before my eyes without knowledge of the past posting habits of Rightallalong. And what I saw was he stated an opinion that I agreed with.

Among conservatives there is no debate about the sanctity of the natural right to be secure in one’s person and property, and by extension the right to defend against those who would refuse your rights.
In either case, whether OReilly ever held those values sacred in the past, or only pretended to, he has now disgraced himself.

You call the warning of this disgrace a smear campaign. I call it a public service, warning others of a hypocrite.

Armed with the new information provided by “Rightallalong”, I can now make a more informed decision about so-called conservative Bill O. Now that I can celebrate.

So what is your problem with this exactly?

The instinct to sheild ones self is normal. How about giving Oreilly the benefit and cut the guy some slack! He‘s a big dude and I’m sure can pack a pretty good punch if provoked. Some of you folks just want to see Bill do something stupid so you can laugh and joke about it. He is a man of class and many of you are *******…

Yes, but I’d like to know the answer to the question though:

      Was O‘Reilly at Gingrich’s fundraiser?

I watched his show tonight and Bill looked REALLY bothered by what happened and he should have been. WHY is he walking in Washington with a 5 foot 2 inch woman only protected by an umbrella in a rain storm. Wake up Bill and stop listening to Geraldo

I like Bill, but I have to do this. “The word of the day is pusillanimous”. When The Factor is walking in D.C., he shouldnt be pusillanimous.

If that Occupy protestor had tried that here in the south, he would have been confronted with a gun pointed to the face. I’m with Bill on this one. Truth is he didn’t know if the guy was armed or wanting to cause harm. D.C. had the highest crime in the nation and you can’t even touch someone in defense without getting blamed. One reason I don’t visit there anymore.

What‘s the beef with O’Reilly? You ungrateful little pukes, if it weren‘t for O’Reilly opening the awareness of conservative strife, there would hardly be a Glenn Beck Show. Remember, his show on Fox News brought to the mainstream the indignantcies within the Clinton Administration.

The Occupiers are all bullies. They “occupy’ public land, intimidate, shout down, and bust city budgets with their never-ending temper tantrums. This is definitely a new twist on early election campaigning. Ever since the 2010 elections when the Union Occupiers set up camp in Wisconsin and the Democrat legislators fled the state, we have been subjected to this lawless behavior. Can only imagine what will happen when the Democrats lose in 2012. And one of the main reasons they will lose ? Because of their ties to these union / militant Lefty student thugs.

You come running up to me, yelling, and attacking my personal space in a threatening manner.. you will only be seeing black and the cold part of the pavement. O’Reilly has every right to protect his space. Media entities have many death threats. In such conditions, there is no place for such confrontation. Do it peacefully.

As O’ Reilly pointed out, Jesse always identifies himself and backs off if told to. The man is lucky O‘Reilly didn’t punch him out. The man, had he had a weapon, could have injured or killed O’Reilly or the assistant he had with him. He has every right to be concerned and to protect himself.
