Cartoon Creator Detained at Airport for Making ‘Racist’ Comment About Muslim Woman’s Hijab

David Jones, the creator of the popular, animated children’s character Fireman Sam, was recently accused of racism and held by Gatwick Airport (United Kingdom) security for an hour. The situation, which Jones dubbs an “Orwellian nightmare,” occurred after he commented about a Muslim‘s woman’s clothing.
After noticing how easily the woman, whose face was almost covered in its entirety (she was wearing a hijab), was able to get through the security process without showing her face, Jones, 67, commented, saying, “If I was wearing this scarf over my face, I wonder what would happen.” It was this statement — a short quip — that landed him in hot water.
Here’s how the situation unfolded: When Jones entered the metal detector, his artificial hip apparently set off the alarm. He was subsequently searched and, though nothing was found, a security guard notified him that he was being detained because he had made an offensive comment. Jones, of course, maintained that he had done nothing wrong.
Once he made it to the other side of the checkpoint, officials allegedly accused him of racism. A Muslim security guard had purportedly overheard his comment and said that she was offended as a result. At this point, security staff, an airline administrator and a police officer spent the next hour trying to coerce Jones to apologize. He claims the group told him, “we now live in a different time and some things are not to be said.”

Although he has continued to defend himself against racist charges, in the end, he did admit that his comments “could” have been taken offensively and the incident was resolved. He was then able to rejoin his daughters, with whom he was traveling.
“What I said had nothing to do with the woman’s religion. It was the fact that her face was covered and she seemed to have passed through that part of the security process without showing it,” he claims. ”I was adamant I was not going to apologize because I had done nothing wrong.’
Jones, who believes his rights were trampled, is planning to lodge a complaint against the airport and against British Airways.

“Something like George Orwell’s 1984 now seems to have arrived in Gatwick airport. I feel my rights as an individual have been violated,” he explained. “What I underwent amounts to intimidation and detention. I am not opposed to having this level of security but it must be equal for all.”
A Gatwick Airport spokesman admitted that a woman who works in security was offended by Jones’ comments and that the “security team is looking at what happened to ensure the incident was handled in the right way.”
Fireman Sam is a famous cartoon series in the United Kingdom that Jones created with fellow fireman Dave Gingell. While both are now retired from their professions, the cartoon continues to be a major success in the children’s media world.

Along with the woman was a bearded body guard. I’m sure I could see the shape of a gun. We left and behind us the rest of the customers left. I asked the manager the next month about the incident. She told me that after the customers left the couple left without buying a thing.

Just doesn’t seem plausible at all. There at least needs to be some plausibility in what would have been a “plan” some decades ago. There is no way you could “plan” muslim homeland security guards at the airports looking out for the lady with the hijab. NO WAY for a plan for this LOL.

Give these brainless dorks a little bit of power and they think they have a license to become administrators of the universe and their job is to reign over the common citizen.
The situation has evolved to a point where it is in oppressive mode and individual liberties are suspended.
The greatest threat to these new totalitarians are armed citizens. Note that the governmental masters in the US are ever wary of pushing its citizenry too close to the brink, because they have the ability to contest government encroachment, but the UK citizen is banned from owning firearms. The UK overseers know he can be pushed further with their heavy-handed outrages.
They should take note that when the time arrives the arms will appear, as they have in every instance throughout history.

All I can say is WOW! This story leaves one speechless because to speak apparantly now can land one in hot water very quickly. They have affectively shut down free speech with Offensive language speech where just about anything can be deemed offensive. Can you imagine a Christian being offended for half the things they hear coming out of peoples mouths at airports that have nothing to do with race like sexually suggestive jokes about the great time they had in Las Vegas. This man didn‘t didn’t say anything racist, he merely pointed out the obvious. If this man walked into the airport wearing a ski mask, he would have been subdued, arrested, and interrogated.
So what makes Muslim women so special that they can do this with impunity? They’re allowed to do this because of a religious affiliation?

If this is the first time a Quran has been burnt, then something is wrong with the military. A turban is still a turban, whether it be on the head of a Muslim or Sikh. A veil is a veil whether it be on a bride, a Muslim, a thief or person worried about sun exposure. This appears to be busybody agents (I’m assuming of the state) attempting to ham-fistedly stick it to the crusty, old white man. Dear Islam, you are not afforded a special set of rules… unless, it appears, the media and state can use your never ending hypersensitivity to step on the rights of others. You can practice your faith, but you don’t get to co opt language and culture… unless the cowards of govt. decide to adopt one more zero tolerance policy and become just as intolerant as the worst aspects of Islam.

This man did nothing more than make a comment about the absurdity of it all, and obviously the “Emperor-Has-No-Clothes” posse could not abide it. So they had to try to intimidate the poor man into thinking he did something wrong when all he did was observe (and speak) the truth. For that, you’re punished by the PC crowd. Well, guess what? We’re fighting back. We’re speaking out and when appropriate, we’re going to sue.
As for Rose-Ellen, who truly needs more therapy… you need to pray for her. Seriously. She thinks she‘s doing the right thing but is so brainwashed from the liberalism in NY that she can’t see straight.

The freedom loving people here are more frightened by the potential terroristic actions to follow. You can very well shout that until you are sore in the throat as far as I care. To date, some 8,500 civilians have been killed there, and only Saudi Arabia has asked that the opposition to the murderer, Assad (just like his dad), be armed with weaponry to defend themselves. Also, four US Senators, including Joe Lieberman-I-Connecticut, have asked President Obama to do the same that’s being asked by the Saudis. In the meantime, those that survive Assad’s death squads will probably starve to death, as he’s not allowing food or fuel to be delivered to the surviving residents of the city of Homs.

Posted on February 27, 2012 at 8:22amFireman Sam is a great kid’s show about an “ordinary” fireman who consistently handles situations responsibly and bravely while also pointing out to kids potential dangers of fire, accidents, etc. Looks here like Mr. Jones is being the Fireman Sam in his own life much like we all need to be in this day and age. Younger boys will particularly like this show as will parents/grandparents of younger boys. Good morals, solid responsibility, and strong values are centered in this show. Worth checking out!
