The Academy Award-nominated director of an anti-drilling documentary was arrested on Capitol Hill Wednesday after trying to film a congressional hearing on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, without proper credentials, according to multiple news reports.
Capitol Police charged Josh Fox, the director of the 2010 documentary “Gasland,” with unlawful entry, the Associated Press reported.
As The Blaze previously reported, “Gasland” covers the environmental concerns of fracking, a method that involves drilling into rock and injecting high-pressure liquid, allowing natural gas to escape. Fracking has been blamed for recent small earthquakes in Oklahoma and Ohio, though researchers say the link has not been conclusively proven.
The oil and gas industry have criticized “Gasland” for what they say is a sensationalized attack on fracking, according to the AP. The film was nominated for an Academy Award last year.
Fox, who is working on a sequel to the documentary, was led out in handcuffs Wednesday morning before the House Science Committee panel hearing got underway, Politico reported.
“I’m within my First Amendment rights, and I’m being taken out,” Fox shouted.
According to Politico, an ABC News crew was also turned away from the hearing. It is up to the committee chairman’s discretion whether to allow uncredentialed members of the media to film hearings.
The Hill reported Republicans on the panel objected to filming by both Fox and the ABC crew. Rep. Brad Miller (D-N.C.) called for a vote on whether to permit the crews to film, but Republicans tabled the motion.
Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), chairman of the Energy and Environment subcommittee, noted before Miller’s motion that the hearing was being webcast and said anyone filming the hearing would need proper credentials, Politico reported.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 4:22pmOne must remember that the movie “Gasland” is an intentional hit piece with no fact checking or peer review. Full of obvious lies and misrepresentations. There is still to this day, no verifiable evidence of any damage or polution caused by fracking. The eyewitnesses and accounts in the movie have not been verified. This is the same as Ozone Al’s fantasy movie – An Inconvenient Truth.

You are making a Constitutional argument out of something that was simple lawbreaking. Should the rules/laws be different? Maybe, but its a far cry from a Constitutional issue. Will the guy go to jail? No. Was the guy trying for publicity? Likely. Do the Patriot Act and the National Defense Authorization Act violate our rights as Americans in our Constitution?…absolutely. You disprove your own theory. You assume I’m a liberal, of course republicans love that attack when I have a thought that’s my own, not what Glenn told me to believe. Actually, democrats/liberals/progressives are the same way.
The elite control both sides. I can’t be controlled. I saw the truth two years ago, republicans are just as sorry as democrats. I refuse to join either side and give them blind loyalty. You obviously like to be told what to think.
Also, I don’t have to video or take pictures at my City Council meetings. Its broadcast live on the local cable channel and the minutes are posted online. My son was presented with his diploma there after completing all tests both written and physical to become a fire fighter. We took videos and pictures from start to finish. Maybe if you actually attended your city council meetings you would see the ones on YouTube are the exception, not the rule.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 3:28pmAll you who read my comment understand that I am 100% in favor of every type of drilling, including hydraulic fracturing. It is unlikely that “fracking” caused earthquakes in Oklahoma and Ohio, but fracking has in fact caused earthquakes in the past. When I lived in Denver, Colorado in the 1960s the U.S. Army began disposing of radioactive wastes near Golden by pumping them into deep wells. The wastes circulated about among the fissures in the front range and caused several earthquakes, which ceased just as soon as the army quit pumping. There was considerable argument over the suggestion that the pumping caused the quakes, but all the quakes ceased as soon as the army found another way to dispose of the wastes.
These were not small quakes, and were mighty scary. I had an office in the basement of a large medical center in the city, and I remember one occasion when my desk simply scooted across the room against the wall. My wife, on the eighth floor, told about the swaying of the building. Several times at home we had to take refuge between doorways. Fracking does cause problems but they are localized and only occur where there are sedimentary deposits disposed to slip and slide.

I mean, who would think earthquakes would happen where two plates collided soooo hard they formed the Rocky Mountains?

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 10:30pmActually, disposing of water by pumping it into the ground is not fracking. To fracture the rock, you need to pump massive amounts of water (actually gel) and sand into the rock in a short amount of time. I’m sure that the Army was not using high horsepower engines to pump at the rates required for fracking. That said, I’ve been on many frac jobs, and I really doubt that they can cause earthquakes or fresh water contamination.

Posted on February 2, 2012 at 8:16amKinda funny that Chernobyl translates as wormwood, but it’s not a match with the prophecy, the city was no star (by any sensible measure) and the water did not turn to blood.
So, it must be something else. Maybe Red Kachina = NI.BI.RU = Wormowood.
IMHO, the Revelation, for the most part, describes something that happened in the past, and projects it into the future, because the event was of cyclical nature. Of course, since past (or history as it goes) does not repeat itself but rhymes, some new elements were slapped on the old tale, which was not that remote in time, probably no more than millennium and half, so it was still remembered to a degree, fresh.
Some of the “parameters” were described in “Ipuwer” papyrus, which was an eye-witness rendition of the event. It bears a similarity to the Revelation account, but more from a perspective of an observer.
Main elements:
Report Post »1. A large heavenly body, red in color, followed by a host of smaller bodies that orbited round it appears in the sky.
2. As it approaches, it’s tail shadows the earth. A gravel (or stone hale as described) pummels the surface, wrecking property and cracking heads to those not in a shelter.
3. After the hale, a red dust descends and colors water red (metal oxide of some sorts) and makes it bitter and undrinkable.
4. As the body approaches to its closer point, a light show ensues, first were large and loud thunderbolts as never seen before.
Twobyfour
Posted on February 2, 2012 at 8:36am5. The singular thunderbolds concentrate in one place, forming a light pillar. This pillar makes a sound that is reminiscent of a very loud trumpet–everyone can hear it and there’s no escape form the din.
6. The winds start to appear and grow in strength. What is not tied up or who is not holding something firmly attached to he ground is lifted up and disappears in the forming dust clouds.
7. The clouds get lower and lower, The impression is that the sky is falling. The elevated locations are enveloped by clouds.
8. A darkness sets in. It is a pitch black, impenetrable and one is not able to see even a palm in front of one’s face. The darkness lasts for an unknown time, it may be days, but the isolation in darkness changes perception, it seems like forever.
9. The darkness dissipates. It’s gray, a twilight that goes on and on. The clouds slowly lift up. It’s cold, and a dirty rain is almost a permanent fixture of the following months.
10. The plants wither from the lack of sunshine. Animals and people become sick from the lack of nutrition. However, some substance is found that resembles thick hair, yellow in color and sweet tasting. If it drops into water, it turns it into a milky appearance. It provides enough sustenance for survival. The hair has to be collected in the early morning, because as the day gets warmer and humid, the hair melts and seeps into ground.
…
Funny story, eh?
Report Post »Twobyfour
Posted on February 2, 2012 at 8:43amSo, this tale explains a few things.
1. The falling sky
2. Land full of honey and rivers overflowing with milk.
Without the previous narrative, these expressions (that for some reason are common in almost all cultures) make very little sense.
Report Post »Twobyfour
Posted on February 2, 2012 at 9:06amThe time frame of the event described in Ipuwer papyrus coincides with:
1, Exodus
2. Demise of Minoan kingdom
3. Demise of Mohenjo Daro/Harappa civilization in Indus Valley.
4. Prossible timeframe of demise of Tiwanako Empire in South America
5. Demise of old China dynasties and a dawn of new Yao dynasty.
6. Demise of Egypt Middle Kingdom and several centuries of Hyksos rule (possible Amalek rulers)
7. Large scale population movements all over.
One curious piece of data from the beginning of Yao rule–the emperor endowed a program of astronomical observations lasting for decades, to ascertain the duration and placement of seasons, months and days as the star map and positions of planets in the sky changed and none of the previous certainties were, ahm, certain.
I guess, as the Chinese say, they lived in interesting times.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 8:43pmActually you are half right. The problem isn’t with Fracking its with the disposal of the chemical laden water that is causing problems! It seems that the water is extracted from the site after being used for fracking and trucked to another site where it is pumped back deep into the ground. As it turns out the fracking water is acting like a lubricant in the various fractures & faults in the ground around the disposal area and earthquakes have increased enough to make an educated guess that the water may be causing small quakes around the water disposal sites. Now may feel that the Fracking itself is not practically environmentally unsafe. But the stupid A&&’s that thought they were going to make Fracking a cheaper way to extract oil from shale didn’t factor in the stupidity of pumping this S–T back into the ground! Now they may determine that this will not work and then they will need to find a better way to dispose of Fracking Fluid which will probably be more expensive so is it now to be called that freaking fluid?

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 3:36pmAmen. We need to have these meetings at least available on CSPAN. What happened to the most transparent government that we were promised several years ago? I think the problem is that the rules that gather these hearings and the rules that allow chairmen to compose “expert” witnesses is a big problem. We could get another ALAR scare going, but this time it is with chemicals in the ground used in the fracking process. Congress has been having parades of experts for about eleven years listening to experts spout the evils of Global Warming. The hearing process alone accounts for much of the credibility that Global Warming has today.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 2:34pmAh yes we the people. Let’s not forget we work for Congress and the wealth and corporations that own them. concerns of fracking, a method that involves drilling into rock and injecting high-pressure liquid, allowing natural gas to escape. Fracking has been blamed for recent small earthquakes in Oklahoma and Ohio, though researchers say the link has not been conclusively proven. Even a fifth grader can figure out that multiple and frequent earthquakes in areas that previous had none is being caused by the new factor to the region. The earthquake issue is only their to mask the real environmental damage of pumping chemical laden water into the ground. Why exactly are they not required to clean the water at least back to the level of their source water.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 2:50pmThe Man-Made Global Warming scientists have overwhelmingly confirmed that scientists everywhere have conferred and now are 100% sure that Anti-Fracking scientists can conclusively say that chemical laden water has definitely caused earth tremors and earthquakes. JCrook says so.

Posted on February 1, 2012 at 3:04pmGo back to school before you start trying to spout scientific phrases. You are not only quite lacking in your facts, but your understanding of processes, geological in nature, is left wanting. Do not purport scientific claims that are so obviously false that any student of the subject could identify your errors without even trying. Not only that but you contradict yourself in a way that the layman can see through your arguments.
The point is, you are showing great ignorance, do not make yourself out to be the fool.
